bus driver type rumor - Tiana's Place on the Magic?

It is noisy but if you enjoy pop-jazz, you might enjoy it. I'm not a fan of loud music (ever) but I appreciated this one... surprisingly!

As I said, I would check on the tube for videos... Or just take a peak during another night.
Is the music/show every time you dine in there? Or only one night (like the other dining rooms that have theme shows)?

It wasn't just one night (on a 7-night). The first night had really loud music from the get-go, which I'm thrilled to hear they have adjusted so we can actually converse with our servers. It was not great having Tiana's for our first night. Anyway - that first time they had the band, and Tiana came around to all the tables in her "hostess" outfit or whatever it's called (the white flapper ensemble). The second night they had a Mardis Gras parade sort of thing where everyone could walk around dancing/singing in a conga type of line with the servers. Louis came around that night. I don't remember the music being as intrusive on the second night, but that may be partially due to perception - as it was less of an issue when we were expecting it and had already gotten to know our servers a bit. I don't know what they do if you're there a 3rd night. Our cruise was over NYE, and even though we started in Tiana's, we had Triton's two nights a row in the middle.

Typically, any dining room you have 3 nights, the second night is Pirate night.

Yeah, or I guess Frozen for Alaska, didn't think about that.

I wonder if they had music in there more than 2 nights for the Panama canal cruises though, or if it's always a 2 night thing. I've read a few Panama Canal trip reports but don't recall anyone talking about that.

I wish the restaurants could be different on the cruises. I like the fact that Animators is somewhat different on the Magic and Wonder vs Dream and Fantasy.
I would even prefer that the Dream and Fantasy would add one unique restaurant to their ship. Being that they both home port in Port Canaveral, I’m sure there are a lot of people that have and will sail both. Would be nice to see a different restaurant that would make it more unique. Just like the shows.
But that’s only my opinion.

Not just yours. I think each ship should have it's own, unique, "feel".

There will be similarities between sister ships, of course, but the details could be different. Making each cruise it's own special experience.

RE: Loudness in Tiana's Place

Yes it can be loud, but it's no where near the sound levels that the DJ plays in Azure / Fathoms / The Tube / Evolution - they wonder why no one stays after the nightly "game show" or entertainment - It's Too Darn Loud (and I guess that makes me Too Old - like my old tee shirt says)

The difference being, I expect loud music in a nightclub. If you want quiet there's always Skyline, Keys, Pink, etc. At dinner, when I need to communicate (without shouting) with my servers, and would like pleasant conversation during dinner, a little background music is nice. Emphasis on 'BACKGROUND'. But, not a full-on, loud, "let's all join a conga line" show.

On our 3 nights, we've had all that in the same dinner: Music, Tiana/Louie & Mardi Gras parade.

I think that Tiana's is the best MDR in the fleet. Loud, yes, Fun - YES!!! And I liked the menu items fine. They did make a "change" to Tiana's between January and July this year. In January, the band started playing on pretty early during the seating. Now they start later, play less - so that you actually can talk to your server to place your order and be heard - and get to know your table mates.

I enjoyed the original menu in Carioca's. The second time they had removed the "All Meat Entree" with the skewers. I was really looking to up my cholesterol count again, but it was no longer (like the Coconut Shrimp in Parrot Cay) SAD. And I will agree with someone above - they only painted over the restaurant - didn't even take out the "decorations" just a painted over them - you can still see the outlines - SLOPPY for Disney

Love Tiana's - food, music, parade all good!

I like Carioca's because of the unique menu. I am sad to hear the skewers are gone, really enjoyed them

Ah Yes, Pirate Night is not a conga line / "mardi gras parade" its the Pirate Limbo - same thing, same duration, different theme.

I agree, we don't need to shout to be heard, and Tiana's seems to have shorter sets of music and activity now than when they first started.

OK, sure, Pirate night. Just my opinion, of course, but that's different. Pirate night is a given that it's a party night.

But the every night jazz club themeing isn't really my idea of quiet dinner time. Certainly, in the "real world" people can choose to go to such a venue, if they like to. But, onboard the ship, you're kind of locked into "enjoying" that atmosphere, even if you don't like it.

Added thought: I'm not particularly fond of Crush "stopping by" my table when dining in Animator's Palate, either.

I enjoyed the food in Tiana's but the band was not enjoyable at all. In that, they were boring and very bland. I lived in south Louisiana, the band sounded nothing like bands from that area. I hope that if a change is coming to Carioca's, it will focus on the food and decor.

I think it's every night. We had TP on Pirate Night and had a show. Tiana and Louie (aligator) were there.
We thought Tiana's was fun, but one night of "fun" was enough for our party. I would prefer if they did that combination of entertainment on the 7 nights as well as the shorter sailings (yours wasn't a 7 night, if I recall correctly?) and left the 2nd night in the rotation as a non-show night. Maybe send Tiana and/or Louis around, but not all the extra party/music stuff. I would almost skip that first night in Alaska, except we'll have my nieces and nephew with us for the first time, so I plan to try to enjoy it from their perspective.

It would surprise me if they would change Carioca's to Tiana's. They only reimagined Parrot Cay to Carioca's a few years ago (although I was expecting more than painting over the old woodwork, taking out the parrots and putting in new lights). I could see if they were going to do something more extensive to make Carioca's more unique than just the repainting/lights that it would make sense. I prefer the Parrot Cay menus to Carioca's; I found the new menu a bit blah. But unless DCL feels that Carioca's has been a complete bust, I am at a loss to understand why you would change it again so soon.

We are planning our first trip on the Magic next summer, and I was really excited to read this rumor until I read of the downsides of Tiana's. We've been on the wonder, but that was back when it was Parrot Cay. Cariocas (from the photos I've seen anyways) just doesn't seem all that interesting to me. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens during that winter dry dock.

Anyone know what the rotations are like on the longer cruises? (10+ nights that is?)

Typically rotations are 123123, etc. But can vary. Each cruise may be unique in it's actual rotation.

Just curious, maybe I missed it, but has anyone confirmed the rumor of the change?

If you noticed the title of this thread:
bus driver type rumor - Tiana's Place on the Magic?

And the first post:
There's someone on the cruise meet group (on another social media platform) for our cruise next year that says that she heard from a "reliable source"

That's typically the only confirmation such threads as this need.
