Burger King Ickies

I have worked as a restaurant manager for years. The state health inspector will tell you that gloves give the customer a false sense of security. Restaurants that wash hands instead are cleaner becuase people that wear gloves forget what they are touching and do not change their gloves often enough. When you can actually "feel" with your hands you wash them all the time. That person was wrong though and I would have brought that to the attention of the manager not corporate. The manager takes care of the store and would speak to that employee and probably address all that work there to remind them once again about hand washing procedures.

I believe that for every one thing you happen to see in front of you...

there's a whole bunch of things you didn't see :scared1: that went on behind the scenes.

I don't think you over-reacted at all but personally, I never give much thought to germs, the glove-wearing, hand-washing, never eat a fry that hits the fast food table conflicts:rotfl2: I just don't. I wash my hands after using the bathroom and don't touch the flusher or door handle if at a public place but that's about as far as my germaphobia goes:laughing:

I've worked in restaurants and kitchens my whole life and I am very careful about cross-contamination and keeping things sterile if possible. I think its important that we wear gloves while preparing food (that will not be cooked), tie our hair back, and not have long polished nails. I've seen some pretty gross things happen in kitchens and trust me, not wearing gloves is is just the tip of the iceberg.

I know some people who have worked in kitchens and try to never eat out anymore. Like I said, I didn't give it a second thought;) I'll take that risk if I don't have to cook.

I think that you over-reacted completely (I would have eaten it without a second thought). My wife does, too - but only because you called the home office (she would have asked for a different sandwich). Too subjective an area to get anything other than opinion, IMO. :upsidedow

It's a real mess actually. I use paper towels to handle anything that won't go into an oven or microwave after handling with bare hands. This "germ thing" started when I was in nursing school and began a rotation in surgery. Germs were paramount and I became fascinated with microbiology and this grew into a monster with me. :sad2:

ETA: Paper towels are handled the same way a sterile dressing would be handled...grabbed from the backside only....no bare hands touching an area that will touch the food. Sick, really sick and I freely admit it!

But paper towels were never sterile to begin with so you are just creating a false sense of security doing this :confused3:confused3:confused3

Regardless of whether she was handling money or not, I would not want someone opening up my sealed burger, lift the bun & then serve it to me.

Considering she was handling money, I would have either asked for my money back or asked for a new burger.

I'm somewhat of a germophobe & even in my own home if I touch any kind of money at all - coin or bill - I immediately wash my hands.

I completely understand where ilovepcot is coming from. I am the same way.

At a food court, I use hand sanitizing wipes after I pay & before I eat. I also wipe off the table with a wipe before sitting down.

As far as dispensers, I cover the pump with a napkin & then pump. Straws....I don't touch the straw that is going in my glass if my hands aren't clean.

I'm the person that opens the bathroom door with a paper towel or my sleeve. I wipe off my steering wheel after a day of shopping.

Yeah.........I'm an admitted germaphobe. Even if everything I do is really a false sense of security, it's my false of security. I don't do anything that should bother anyone else, but it makes me feel better, so I'll continue with my obscure habits!

Now, I'm off to put more hand wipes in my purse as I just used my last one the other day after I stopped at the mall food court!

I hate to break it to all of you, but if this is what you DO see; just think about what you DON'T see:sick:. Sorry, couldn't resist, after years of working in fast food and resteraunts nothing surprises me.
