We are traveling to Disneyland for the first time in September. We are also going to stay in Newport Beach. Any info on this airport and its' relation to these two destinations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the info. I guess I was a little confused with so many airports that Southwest flies into in that general area. How is the John Wayne Airport as far as size, accessibility to rental cars (National), etc? Would it be a good option for us based by our itinerary or is there a better option? Thanks.

It seemed more like 20 minutes away as opposed to 30, but I guess that depends on traffic too.
I would say you made good time. Well done.
(Of course, at rush hour, that's an hour drive easily. Welcome to So. Cal freeways.)
It only took us 15-20 minutes on Supershuttle. I believe its only 10-12 miles from Disneyland, and most of that is freeway, so it shouldn't take 30 minutes in non-rush hour traffic. It seemed more like 20 minutes away as opposed to 30, but I guess that depends on traffic too.

If you made it from the airport to DL in 15 minutes without getting a ticket, you were lucky or all police had the day off. I would have bought a lottery ticket if I was having that kind of day!
It was on Supershuttle and the distance like I said is only 12-14 miles. It wasn't luck, just good times of day to be driving. We arrived very early on a Saturday and left late on Thursday, so there was very little traffic. If you made it from the airport to DL in 15 minutes without getting a ticket, you were lucky or all police had the day off. SNA is only 14 miles from DL. You could easily make it in under 20 minutes sine they are both just off the freeway. Of course traffic can cause significant delays.
Ummmm.... with all politeness, trust me when I tell you that 14 miles on the 5N is not necessarily a 20 minute drive. My DH drives 20 miles everyday on the 5 and it can take him up to 60 minutes easily.
20 minutes from SNA to DL, door to door is making good time.
I was just trying to offer local knowledge since I know that freeway very well.
...so please calm down a bit in the vehemence of your response....
