We are traveling to Disneyland for the first time in September. We are also going to stay in Newport Beach. Any info on this airport and its' relation to these two destinations would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what you are asking exactly as your subject line has me a bit confused, but let me try to help.

Burbank is NOT where John Wayne Airport is located.

John Wayne Airport is in Santa Ana (Orange County) about 30 minutes from Disneyland. Newport Beach is about 10 minutes from John Wayne and about 30-45 minutes from Disneyland depending upon how close to the ocean you are in Newport.

Burbank is about an hour and half to the general OC area (John Wayne, Disneyland, Newport included). There is also a Burbank airport.

Does that help?

Thanks for the info. I guess I was a little confused with so many airports that Southwest flies into in that general area. How is the John Wayne Airport as far as size, accessibility to rental cars (National), etc? Would it be a good option for us based by our itinerary or is there a better option? Thanks.

John Wayne (SNA) is a great airport. It's not huge, but also big enough to have the services needed by most. We use it whenever we can (unless pricing is just significantly more than LAX - which sometimes it is due to the convenience of it!).

Rental cars are very accessible at SNA. If your itinerary includes DL and Newport Beach, it's the ideal choice of local airports. It is not necessarily going to have your cheapest flight, which is why some use LAX, Burbank, and sometimes LBX.

If you have any other questions, ask away.

John Wayne is ALOT smaller than LAX. I know I speak for many others when I say that it was much easier to find your way around and the lines when we went in October were almost non-existant. We checked right in and walked through security. They actually had a "family" line for security which was very nice. We will be flying into here again for future visits. :thumbsup2

It seemed more like 20 minutes away as opposed to 30, but I guess that depends on traffic too.

:rotfl: I would say you made good time. Well done.

(Of course, at rush hour, that's an hour drive easily. Welcome to So. Cal freeways.)

It only took us 15-20 minutes on Supershuttle. I believe its only 10-12 miles from Disneyland, and most of that is freeway, so it shouldn't take 30 minutes in non-rush hour traffic.

If you made it from the airport to DL in 15 minutes without getting a ticket, you were lucky or all police had the day off. I would have bought a lottery ticket if I was having that kind of day!

DL is about 15 minutes from SNA if there is no traffic(which can be a big IF), and I'm not a speeder...Also, SNA can be more expensive than LAX because the higher landing taxes the airlines have to pay at that airport. It has a strict curfew, do to noise ordenences (sp) in the area, and if a flight arrives after curfew (10pm) that airline has to pay a severe fine to the airport, so they pass the cost of this onto the customer, which is why it can be more expensive to fly into there.

I'd also look into LGB (Long Beach) if you can fly Jet Blue it's a great little airport. Close to DLR ~ I'm not sure about Newport Beach though. It's cheaper for me to fly into LGB than LAX or SNA.

SNA is only 14 miles from DL. You could easily make it in under 20 minutes sine they are both just off the freeway. Of course traffic can cause significant delays.

It was on Supershuttle and the distance like I said is only 12-14 miles. It wasn't luck, just good times of day to be driving. We arrived very early on a Saturday and left late on Thursday, so there was very little traffic.

Ummmm.... with all politeness, trust me when I tell you that 14 miles on the 405N is not necessarily a 20 minute drive. My DH drives 20 miles everyday on the 405 and it can take him up to 60 minutes easily.

20 minutes from SNA to DL, door to door is making good time.

I was just trying to offer local knowledge since I know that freeway very well.

I understand that, but you are being awfully judgmental in your responses. Your experience is during times of traffic. Mine was not. Going 14 miles in 20 minutes is not going to break any speeding laws, so please calm down a bit in the vehemence of your response. It can be done and is done on a regular basis. All it takes is some planning. Since we are talking about people on vacation, and not daily commuters schedules can be arranged to avoid the prime traffic times.

Here's my 2 cents....I fly into SNA every trip I make to Disneyland and taking the shuttle usually land me at my hotel in about 20 minutes, if my hotel is first on the list. I think it totally depends on what time of day and day of the week it is. It might seem unusual, but it can be done. That's why I pay the extra bucks to fly into SNA instead of LAX! The quicker I can get to the park the better! :thumbsup2
