Hello, I am a GF newbie. We always stay at AKL and love it there but have been buped and generously upgraded (free of charge) to GF. We are excited but I am a creature of habit and planning and now find myself a bit confused. I have a few questions:

1) is there a pool open late night (after 10pm ?) Does it have a pool bar that stays open late as well? One of our favorite things about AKL is the great pool and swimming late at night 10pm-midnigt or so and sippping a frozen cocktail under the stars.
2) Are there informal kid's activities during the day like at AKL? For example, a treasure hunt each day, story time around arushka rock, a daily scheduled craft?
3) What is the mouseketeer club like? Will our 8 yr old be too old (he thinks many things are "fr babies" now and will be upset if he is surrounded by kid's younger than him.
4) Dining options- which are the best?
5) what rooms/buildings are the best?

Thanks so much!
Connie

Congrats to you! I've never been lucky enough to stay at the GF, but someone will come along and be able to answer your questions, I'm sure.
Tammi, where are you???:lmao:

Congratulations - what a terrific upgrade for missing out on AKL. Well I have never stayed at the GF but have stayed at the WL several times as it is my favorite. I often take the boat to the Contemporary to dine at California Grill or take the monorail over to the Poly to dine at Ohana's. As a MK resort on the monorail you really now have access to all three resorts as well as the MK for dining and activities at those resorts. For character dining you have Chef Mickey's at the CR and 1900 Park Fare at the GF as well as a multitude of fine dining options. Have a Great Vacation.

We stayed at the princess: GF for 9 nights in April and LOVED it!!! Pools are great, location is great, we had a magical trip, enjoy!

Our last stay at GF was May 1-9, 2007. We had a Magic Kingdom view room in the Bolsa Chica building.

We enjoyed eating at Citricos, Narcosees, and the GF Cafe.

GF...We also had a room in Boca Chica, a lagoon view, we were able to see the Castle a bit depending on how we stood on the balcony:)

There are 2 pools...one closer to the beach which is lovely.

Dining....you cant beat Narcoosees or Citricos...the GF is beautiful at night.

Enjoy!!

The cafe, the sit down casual restaurant there has some amazing breakfast. We just returned and ate there one morning. I ordered a Mickey waffle, it was the size of the plate with cinnamon sugar and sprinkles. It was so good. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the tips! I read through the whole GF thread and the link provided but so far, I haven't seen much about pool bars, details on the kid's activities or details on Mouseketeer club. I'll keep looking!

From what I remember Mouseketeer club is much smaller than some of the others. If you are looking for an adult night, I would say Neverland at Poly would be much better.

I don't remember how late the bar was opened at the pool when I stayed there in '05.

They do have a Pirates Cruise that docks from GF if you want to pay 30 bucks or the tea party for girls.

There are two pools at the Grand Floridian. The main, themed pool is call the Courtyard Pool and it is open 24 hours (lifeguard only on duty until 8 p.m.). It is a large pool located directly behind the main building. It has zero-entry access, which means there is no step down into the pool -- you can just wade, or wheel a wheelchair, right in to the water. There is a pool bar nearby. The smaller pool, called the Beach Pool, is located on the side of the main building, on the way to the Spa and Health Club. It also has a pool bar nearby, but is only open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
