We had ressies for Ramada Maingate but had to change our dates to mid-June and the closest hotel with vacancies was the Anaheim Plaza Hotel and suites. we are a bit bummed. there is no continental breakfast, a longer walk, and possible outdated rooms. I'd love to hear some positive things about this hotel to get my spirits up! :goodvibes

Also, is there anywhere I can get groceries within walking distance? We're gonna have to get something to throw in the room for breakfast and want to get some packs of bottled water. I hope somewhere reasonalbly priced is nearby!

If you are open to other hotels, keep checking as some folks make reservations and then need to cancel them or change their dates (like you did! :)). So something might open up.

Ouch! Yeah, that's gonna be a hard time to find availability. I think the Plaza Inn will be fine, though-I haven't stayed there but a friend just did and enjoyed it and recommends it-the pool is huuuuge. If you're worried about food, just get a grocery order delivered. The hotel will be fine, and it's still really close. It looks like you've mainly done WDW-you'll be so much closer than anywhere at WDW it'll be a treat!

Hydro, I have been checking every single hotel down Harboar Blvd every day for 2 weeks! :rotfl2: I am not having any "someone cancels their reservation" luck so far.

limace, thanks for the words of encouragement! we've never done disneyland and ti took us a long time to figure out what hotel we wanted. We originally wanted park vue or one of the ones right across the entrance but settled for ramada maingate after seeing prices for the end of May. We got excited about the Ramada maingate after reading reviews. now the ONLY hotel option we can find is the Anaheim Plaza. It stinks not having a choice at all. We really wanted the convenience of continental breakfast for a quick bite, and we wanted free wi-fi. Alas, when you change your dates you must be willing to be flexible I guess. :rolleyes2

I can tell you we will definintely be spending a lot of time checking for those cancellations though!:coffee:

Hey,
What dates are you looking for? I just punched in June 14 l- 19 for an example and have tonnes available. Sometimes tour operators have blocks of rooms they haven't sold yet, but the hotel will come up as unavailable through the hotel directly.
Castle, Jolly Roger, Paradise Pier, Carousel, Fairfield, Hampton, Double Tree, Hilton, and many more. If you put your dates and how many per room, I can tell you what I see available through.

We stayed at the Castle Inn and Suites which is next door to the Anaheim Plaza hotel. We did not think the walk to the parks was bad at all. After reading posts on this site, I got the impression that the walk to our hotel was going to be doable, but not great... We couldn't believe how quick it was! The longest part was waiting for the crossing signals. We went back and forth from our hotel 3 times daily (one day 4X) and we never dreaded the walk.

For breakfast, if you continue past the hotel next door to Anaheim Plaza (Castle Inn) there is a small shopping plaza with a Subway, Chinese food place, a burger place, and a pizza place. Across the street from this place was a 7-11. They had really good glazed donuts for 50 cents each. Their coffee was good too. My DH would run over there every morning for our breakfast. I think there is a a little "mart" attached to the 7-11 too that sells some grocery items. I am not sure how much it costs for a taxi, but we went to Wal Mart several times on our trip (we rented a car), and it was only 2 minutes away by car. It is not walkable though.

we're going the 19th through the 26th. I think there is a conference somewhere at that time too because all of the hotels are booked! LOL

glad to hear the walk to the castle inn was not bad! I guess our walk would be about the same. were the prices at the 7-11 reasonable? we might be able to get some packs of water there! thanks for the tip!

I would keep checking up until the last minute. Sometimes families reserve several hotel rooms at different hotels so they don't have to choose until right before the trip. Good luck!

We've stayed at the API a few times, the walk is not bad at all! It's across the street from the Ramada that you were originally booked at, maybe an extra minute or so. The rooms there are huge, the pool is huge, there is no free breakfast but there is a restaurant on site and there is a Target down Harbor a bit, you can grab a taxi and hit the Target for water and snacks.
My biggest problem with API is the water temp. It does fluctuate, goes from perfect to cold to hot, so just be aware of that.

thanks for the tip on the water temp in the shower. I'd feel awful if my little one got burned suddenly! Does anyone know if there is a shallow end to the pool? Our 5 year old is just now getting used to being in a pool where she can reach without a lifejacket. She would definitely need a lifejacket if she can't reach though... I'd hate to have to lug one down. (Another reason I wanted ramada maigate...zero entry pool! :sad1:)

Is the Target store within walking distance or do you need transportation?

Thanks to everyone for all the help!!! I'm feeling a bit better now but I'm still looking for those cancellations at other hotels!:rolleyes1

I have a few more hotels that come up avaialble if you're unsure about Anaheim Plaza:

Fairfield Inn
Castle Inn
Staybridge
Holiday Inn(1240 South Walnut)
Alpine Inn
Days Inn Maingate
Both Sheratons
Portofino Inn
Cortona Inn
Ramada Inn Maingate (921 South Harbor)

Just a thought. Have fun:)

You are very welcome. :) I would hate for you little one to get burned as well. IME I was able to tell when the temp was going to change, it always got cold first IIRC so I would simply step out of the water. It doesn't get hot enough to scald but it does get hot enough to be uncomfortable and leave a red mark, the mark faded quickly but it was there.
She will need a life jacket, there are stairs but the pool starts at 3 feet I believe. There is also a hot tub next to the pool.
I wouldn't try to walk to Target, the walk might not be that bad but getting back with bags of stuff wouldn't be very much fun.

Not sure if you're aware, as it hasn't been mentioned in this thread, but the reason everything is so booked up right then is because a huge expansion to California Adventure park is opening on June 15! So massive crowds are anticipated right around then and that's why everything's so full! I hope you find something that works for you and have fun with all the "newness" in the parks!

Yea, we know about the grand reopening of DCA. We kinda want to avoid it but this time frame was the only time that worked for us. Luckily our kids don't really love the movie Cars and I think we are going to avoid this section of the park and hope that everyone else is magnetized to it. Surely with 7 days we can see everything we want to (skipping cars land of course!);)
