Prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against two Lakeland girls accused of bullying a former classmate who committed suicide.
Brian Haas, a spokesman with the State Attorney's Office, said he could not release any information about the girls' cases, citing Florida laws that make records confidential in juvenile criminal cases.
But lawyers for 14-year-old Guadalupe Shaw and 12-year-old Katelyn Roman confirmed that the State Attorney's Office filed no bills in their cases.
This means prosecutors will not officially file criminal charges against the girls.
They are kids.. Little kids. They don't need jail time. They need counseling, good psychological counseling. They need more than not being allowed on the internet or whatever. They need to understand how their actions pushed this girl to be so sad that she felt she had no other option. I wouldn't say they are killers but they need to understand the situation beyond what a 12 or 14 yearold can understand. They need psychiatric help and a lot of it.

This angers me. Those kids belong behind bars for life.
Thing is, the information we (we being the news-watching public) have seen has pretty much been provided by the prosecution, and they wanted to jump on the bullying bandwagon -- which is already a hot-button topic these days. We have no real idea how much of that is true, what the other girl did back to them, even whether the "sound bites" were taken in context or not. Prosecutors always want the case to be tried in the court of public opinion.
If they had enough evidence to prosecute, the charges wouldn't have been dropped.
Never forget that the news media is far from biased, and their strongest motive is to provide controversy and build ratings -- the truth comes somewhere down the line in their priorities. I assume none of us actually knows the case first-hand, so we have to be careful to listen with a critical ear to whatever the media says.
Talk about white trash, shesh. Probably the first time in her life the little piece of crap wore a dress in her life.
