Build your own light sabers?

:goodvibes Thank you so much for posting this!!!
I'm really glad you came back and let us know:thumbsup2
My sons are so excited to go to the lego store...27 more days!!!

Do they have a bunch of lego minifigures??? That is all my 5 year old loves!
He wants Batman..Darthvader..etc.
Any info on the items available will help.
Thanks again:)

I know there are Lego minifigurines you can buy and assemble yourself, but a) they are very expensive (I want to say around $3-4 a piece) and you can't make figurines like Batman, Darth Vadar, or other popular "set" figurines (which is why, if you look on ebay, the minifigurines from these sets can go for big $$!). There are sets of minifigurine "magnets" sold in sets of 3 of both Batman and Star Wars characters. They are just like regular minifigurines, but have magnets in the feet and on the torso, I guess so you could stick them on the fridge, lol. You also can't take the legs off of those. They are $12.99 for a set of 3.

One note about this Lego store -it is a flagship company store, and thus, will sometimes get product in early, before major chains like Target and Wal-Mart will carry them. Sometimes, you can luck out -I know I was able to purchase Lego Star Wars sets that aren't available yet just last week, and I did the same thing last year.

You can make 3 figures for @10.00 at one station in the store, but not Star Star Wars or Batman. They are just regular figures.

Just thought I would post in reguards to the lightsabers. When my son was making his I saw an adult making one like Darth Maul's. I had never seen that before anywhere. I thought was very neat and didn't realize you could do that. So next year we will make one of those when we go back.

My 11 yr old had to call for a cm also...
but he loved it,
that was in May 07
now the 5 yr wants to do one next yr when we go back!

You mean the double ended light saber? That would be so cool:cool1: I know my son would like to make one of those!!!

We are going in 14 days and we have to stop at DTD the first day so my 5 and 11 year old can make lightsabers and buy legos:) My 5 year old already has 2 lightsabers and my 11 year old just got a fancy one for Christmas from Santa yesterday but they still want to make their own. I bet they are a lot neater. Don't you get to put the light and sound in it too? Can you pick different sounds?

Just keep in mind that the dual-ended, Darth Maul lightsabre will only light at one end, so only one of the two blades will be illuminated.

Here is our picture from almost a year ago:

I didn't realize that. We just watched the guy building it for a few minutes b/c we were already done. Thanks for the info. I'll have to pass it on to DS.

After I told my DS5 about the Darth M ls that's all he talks about. He's building one of those! Thanks for the idea and I will tell him about one end not lighting up.

We just got back from WDW and here are a few pics of the build your own lightsaber area.
They are $19.95 and come with batteries and the special sith or jedi pin. It has to be the best deal at WDW:laughing:

And here he is with his Darth Maul light saber. It is the same price, only one end lights up and the other end comes off easily for playing;) Might as well build a two sided saber right:laughing:

You just made my day!!! I had no idea something like this existed! My boys are totally going to love it!

I worked at Once Upon a Toy when we got the Build your Light Saber display. It is VERY confusing if you don't know what you are doing (which most people probably don't)!:confused3

GET HELP FROM A CM!! There SHOULD always be someone who is assigned to Sabers to help guests (and keep it cleaned up--all those little pieces are a MESS!!!) so don't feel bad about asking. Tip in case you don't ask for help: make sure you get all 3 colored crystals for the sounds. One fits in the saber, and the other two can be stored in the end of handle. You can get all 3 with your saber for NO EXTRA COST.

On the note of asking for help, most CMs will be happy to help you stuff your Potato Head and My Little Pony boxes too...I can almost guarantee you that even if you think you're an amazing packer and have as much as you can possibly fit in the box, a CM can fit LOTS more stuff! And get the box to actually close like it has to! :rotfl: Instead of bringing up an open box (thus, trying to break the rules) and telling the CM it's ok (sooo frustrating, and they won't give it to you), ask for help and they will be able to get you everything you want and more!

Have fun!

Is it horrible that I am a 29 year old Mom who can't wait to make my own lightsaber? I'm going to be knocking my DD9 (also a SW nut) out of the way to make mine first. LOL

Thanks for all the photos and advice!

It's so fun! It was one of the highlights of my son's trip. Along with the Jedi Training Academy at DHS and the Lego store where he built his own mini figures. It was $9.95 for 3 men with one assc. each man and came in a little carrying pouch lanyard.

Here are some pics of that too...

They also have the containers you can fill of various lego pieces in the back of the store. I had no idea it was a whole room full of bins to choose from! It was awesome! Here are a couple of pics:)

Sorry, that last one is sideways, but you get the drift! There were walls and walls like the pic above. Couldn't fit the whole room in the shot :)
