I hope this isn't a repeat, wwwbuildabear.com has a summer reading program and you print off the form and fill it out to redeem at the store. If your child reads (or is read to) 3 books you recieve a coupon for 5.00 off a 10.00 purchase, if your child reads 6 books they receive a prize from the grab bag which consists of accesories for the bears, my Dd3 picked a stuffed Baskin Robbins ice cream cone. They also get the coupon. You can get a Build a bear for 10.00 and use the coupon making it only 5.00 and they come with a certificate of adoption and a bear condo(cute cardboard box that looks like a house that kids can color)! We are so happy my Dks have begged me to do a Build a Bear but we just didn't have it in the budget, so now as part of Dd's bday gift we will go to Build A Bear and they will adopt thier first bears!! :cheer2: (I think I'm just as excited as they are!!) ;)

I took my 5 year old dd (who reads on a second grade level) starting kindergarten in the fall and an 8 year old visitor who doesn't get much plus doesnt have a build a bear nearby. The manager was great. She asked if the kids would read to her a bit to encourage the reading part. She made a huge deal about them especially the younger one reading. She gave them a bunch of extra special treats most likely items from party goodie bags such as a build a bear memory card game, picture holder, build a bear music cd, stickers etc. They also got another coupon for $3/15. This was in addition to the $5 off $10 (1 per kid) that we used that day. For the grab bag gift the 8 year old girl picked out a stuffed pillow and 5 year old picked a book about Teddy Roosevelt. I did splurge a bit and let each kid pick out a bear, outfit and sound so after the $10 off I still spent $40 but for the 8 year old it was a very special treat (poor family but very nice child). The girls were so happy with all the praise they got from the manager. They were also invited to do the program again but once is plenty for us.

Can you use the first coupon on clothes for the bears or just on the bears? We already have the bears and oldest is itching for a brownie uniform for her bear. Clothes is something we don't have too many off with 3 girls. LOL

Yes any purchase of 10.00 or more.

I wish we had a Build a Bear near our home. The closest one is over 3 hours away. They have some cute stuff.

Thank YOU!!!! You just made my DD Nicole's night! :cool1:

Do you have to use the coupon you recieve that night? I saw you have to bring in the form by 7/31 but I am asking about buying something that night or can I wait until the girls have more saved. They have a big wishlist. :rotfl:

No you can save it use another time, I can't remember the exp. date(I think Dec. 05) but we are using ours in August and we got them a few weeks back, you should be just fine! :smooth:

thank you!!! My DD wanted to bring a couple of her friends to Build A Bear for her birthday in a few weeks and this will come in handy!!!

Ok, I printed out the list. Two questions: we are already doing the Barnes and Noble reading program, can she use the books she's already read for that? And can we just fill in both part 1 and 2 of the form and take them in at the same time? The nearest build a bear is 2 hrs away and we just happen to be going to the mall it is in tomorrow. I would rather do all this then LOL.

I think whether she can use the same books is up to you, Barnes and Noble won't know the difference. I hope both parts can be used at the same time, because they must be turned in by July 31.

I just noticed that the form needs to be turned in by 7/31 ~ does anyone know if you have to use the coupon the same day you turn in the form or if the coupon has an expiration date on it? DD's birthday isn't until August. :confused3

Yes both parts can be used together and they get both the coupon and the prize. My kids have participated in many reading programs this summer, we kind of considered it cheating to not read seperate books per program, though. Six books really isn't that hard to read and if you're child can't read you can read it to them. :)

Yes, my youngest DD7 brought in both parts this afternoon and promptly then used her $5.00 off coupon.

Also a note about B&N - the gal at Customer Service actually asked the girls which book on their list was their favorite and actually had a discussion with them. My oldest DD11 picked one of the Traveling Pants books...and they had a great talk about it!

HI, Thanks for the info. I checked out the site and the cheapest bear seems to be 16.00.How did you only pay 5.00 for it? Thanks alot for the help. :goodvibes

okay nevermind.....I guess I didn't read all the replies very closely. I just saw TNKBELL's answer to this

Thanks again...this will help defray the cost of our "party"!!

We took DS this past Saturday and they gave us a bit if a hard time when we got to the register. When we first entered the store, we showed the employee his completed reading log (both sides) and she said to just show it at the register. When we did that, the girl said "it is for the next time you come". I replied that we did not plan on coming back anytime soon and could we use it that day and she said "well, I guess I can do it, but we're not supposed to", that type of thing. Then she said "well, it is supposed to be off a Read Teddy" and I said "well, it says or off any other furry friend", then she was like "oh yeah, you're right".

It just seemed like they were more interested in helping the people who were there for the birthday party, even though the store was not busy and there was plenty of help. We ended up spending over $35 after the coupon and were pleased with what DS got, but thought the CS could use a little polishing.

Also--it is my understanding that the coupon is supposed to be used off the purchase " of a Read Teddy or any furry friend of your choice (from the paper) so I don't think they will allow it off the other items like accessories or clothing. You may want to call and check before going so as not to be surprised.

DS got a cute "floatie" for his new frog friend.

They do have slightly smaller bears that sell for $10 at our store, so you could walk out with a bear for $5 + tax if you pick that one and don't buy the clothing.

Anyone know what the age limit is on this program? It doesn't specify on the form?

Thanks,

I don't think there is one, DS is 9, they never said a word. There was a girl who was there celebrating her 13th b-day and she turned one in too.

HTH! :)

I will have to check this out. The nearest one from me is about an hour, so I might call first to see what they say.
Thanks.

Sorry I don't see the link online to get the form! Can you tell me where it is, or could someone forward it to me?

Thank you!!
