Bugs in August?

Can someone tell me what the bugs are like in the parks/resorts in August? My oldest DD (who will be 16 next August when we plan to go) hates bugs beyond rational thought and so I hope they aren't bad at the end of August. We where there last year in early March and the worst thing we saw was those giant small bird size wasp? hornets? and they sent her into a panic! Well I wasn't all that thrilled by them myself but no panic attack! :rotfl:

Honestly the only bugs I have ever heard talked about here that are seasonal are love bugs and they come in May and Sept. They are harmless but annoying. I think Disney does a great job of keeping the bug population down but it is florida so there are some bugs that can not be avoided. I think what you will see will depend on where you are staying. For instance, if I was staying at the cabins in fort wilderness I would expect to see more bugs than if I was staying in a room on the top floor of a deluxe resort(just because the room doors do not open to the outside). I would also expect to see more bugs at animal kingdom than magic kingdom.

Our last trip was in late August and my husband is severely allergic to bees. We thought lots of people eating ice cream, drinking soda, etc +heat surely will equal tons of bees so we came prepared with epi pens, but we were amazed at how few there actually were :) I don't know what they do, but there were less bees there than there are here! I don't recall any other bugs really, just lots and lots of tiny lizards which were fun :)

You probably should worry more about all of the pesticides used by Disney than by the bugs :)

Gotta love the lizards because they eat those pesky bugs.:cool1:
Seriously! I wish we had those little fellows up here :) I'm hoping they're out and about in December as well, that was one of the highlights of the trip for my husband and I :cool1:

:rotfl:Exactly! I recall one trip at POFQ where I sneezed the entire trip in the month of March. I have no allergies either.:rotfl2:

It is Florida. There are bugs and lizards all year long.

If your daughter's irrational fears are kept in check at home and she can lead a normal life, she may be okay in Florida.

But you never know. Bugs are unavoidable.

Maybe she could see someone before traveling who could help her or prescribe medication? Panic attacks over bugs are something for which I'd seek help for my child.

Maybe just tell her that there may be bugs and see if she wants to go? Avoiding the problem won't help her long-term, but might help until this can be worked out.

The only bugs I encounter were a waterbug from a distance and a large grasshopper that landed on my head.... which I think is unusual.

Lots of lizards!

There were alot of biting flies when I was at Fort Wilderness in June three years ago. You can get mosquito bites any time of year.

Lizard are ok just ugly big bugs! She ok with things like lady bugs and those no-see-um's and bee aren't bad but anything that jumps like grass hoppers or is ugly she loses it! I use to have bugs like this as well and I grew out of it (well maybe not grass hoppers), well up to a point but come on who doesn't hate big ugly man eating bugs. She managed last time so I don't expect she won't this time just wanted to check if the rest of us needed to bring paper bags to put on when she freaks! Luckly she is at the age where she doesn't want people looking at her with disaproval so that should help some. I have to say I hate to think of all the stuff they must spray to keep the bugs down. We are planning on doing the African treck and I said to here there is going to likely be bugs and she said she would do it...think we might be sorry for this but only time will tell!

Yes, with the exception of the "love bugs" (which by the way are not as bad there as in my native LA) we have never had any bug problems. We've been campers at Ft. Wilderness since they opened and I don't remember ever even seeing a mosquito, just an occasional lizard;) Maybe Disney Magic keeps them away :lmao: Actually, they do an excellent job of insect control - even though we have NEVER seen them spray :confused3
