Bugged on Delta flight

See, that one is so ridiculous to me. Bottle water, you can keep them all day long as long as they are stowed in seat back pocket for takeoff/landing. (A while back FAA got very nit-picky with those small bottles of water.)

But sorry, I pretty much worked FC exclusively, I took your drink. Man, some F/A’s are lazy. If they’d ask to keep it my reply was always, “I’m sorry I have to take it, but as soon as I can get up I will make you a fresh one.” Unless there’s turbulence on ascent and the captain tells me to remain seated, I’m up after I made the 10,000 feet announcement. You’re without a drink for a very short time. Surprisingly, no one ever got huffy. Probably because they knew it was the rule, I had a kind approach, and they got a fresh drink in 8-10 minutes.
First-class gets drink service before take-off? Sounds dreamy! :cloud9:
And I’m with @Jimmy Mouse on the seat recline issue. If I’m trying to nap, mine will be reclined from the time of take-off until the announcement is made for landing. I’d not begrudge the passenger in front of me who did the same thing. Of course in steerage the recline is so slight it doesn’t impede the tray tables, let alone getting in-and-out of the seats.

As to the OP’s backpack issue, yes, it’s a rules violation but if it wasn’t in my space, I’d completely ignore it.

I haven't gone on a SWA flight where they haven't reminded everyone to put their belongings on the floor in front of them and to ensure the area around their feet is clear. They don't seem to mind small things like a travel pillow on your lap or headphones and a phone but I've yet to see someone with a full on backpack on their lap.

That said there have been sometimes that the seat isn't fully back up from what I can tell of other passengers.

The only reason I would have gently asked the passengers to put the bag away is if the backpack was intruding on my own space. Although the bag in turbulence would become a projectile so I might have said something if that's what started happening badly enough.

I pick my battles on planes. I wouldn't have said anything. It probably wouldn't fit and overhead was full, so then they gate check it and the guy is furious and the whole thing escalates.

They sound really immature. We had a woman in first class that fully reclined her seat the entire time, the flight attendant said not a word to her. I didn't have much room to eat or get out of my seat because of the angle of the reclined seat. She didn't even get told to put it up right for landing. It was ridiculous, people are just entitled.
I have asked the flight attendant to make the person in front of me put their seat up during a meal (as they were handing me my food). Other times the flight attendant has noticed on their own and asked. This was in coach and there is no room to eat if the seat in front is reclined.

Maybe the airline/aircraft you were on. I have had no problem having my tray table down with the seat in front of me reclined.

The tray table would go down, but it would be hard to eat off of it with a seat hanging halfway over the table. This was a full meal (international flight), not just pretzels and a drink.
The flight attendants do make announcements that you should put your seat up during the meal service, but people don't always pay attention.

I've never asked to keep my drink. It's almost empty at that time anyways. I think we've always kept it in BC. It takes a little longer to drink the welcome champagne. I assumed we were allowed because it wasn't crowded in first and business.

FC passengers rarely ask to keep it, most of the time it was for an alcoholic beverage that they didn't finish. If you kept it is because FA's accidentally missed it on safety checks, or they blatantly disregarded the rules.

No open drinks allowed on takeoff/landing. If you don't have a lid to your drink you brought from the airport, they should take it too. Lid, fine. No lid, no keep. That's the rule. Whether flight attendants enforce it ... little harder to say. It is not fun telling someone you have to take their drink they bought somewhere else. Although that is rare since 99% of the time they have a lid.

I mean, yes, he should have been told to put it away for take-off and landing, but unless he was between me and the aisle, I wouldn't have worried about it. If he's in the window seat, he's not impeding anyone's access to the aisle (which is why the rule is in place).

I'd also counter that a bag on someone's lap could easily become a projectile in the event of severe turbulence.

The flights I'm on, the tray table moves with the reclining seat. Once we're allowed, I'll usually set up my tablet on the table. No issues when the seat in front of me reclines. What airplane on you on that the seat overhangs the table so much you can't get fork/spoon from the tray to your mouth?

I'm flying Sunday. I'll try to get a picture (again) of how much the seats recline. I swear it's <4" at TOP of the seat (which means it's probably 1-2" on the lower half of the seat (where the tray table and legs are).

It's the drinks we are served prior to take off. My child always asks for cranberry juice. It make me little nervous and I'd prefer it's finished or picked up before takeoff 😉

I don't fly often, but they are always patrolling the plane for bags under seats and having the seats upright. I wouldn't say anything to anyone on a plane though, not my business and you never know how they will react.

Aer Lingus, Iberia, etc. When the person in front reclines the entertainment screen is practically in your face.

Sounds like an airline issue. I'd get bulkhead or exit row seats to prevent that.
It was only a problem during the meal service, when you aren't supposed to be reclined anyway. The flight attendants do ask people to raise their seatbacks until the meal service is done.

Flew home from Vegas last night. Person in front of me reclined. Didn't change my use of anything on my tray, or the phone/tablet holder...until he decided he needed to adjust in his seat (would have been the same issue if he was fully upright). He was a violent adjuster. I thought the seat was gonna break. But it still didn't cause me any undue flight hardship.
