Bug Spray?

What is the mosquito situation at WDW? Should we plan to pack the bug spray for a late-June visit?

We've found that it gets a little buggy at night-time, but no so bad that it s annoying. A couple of squirts can't hurt though.

We went in June last year and must have been lucky because I don't remember any mosquitos bothering us at all.

We have never needed bug spray on any of our trips. Maybe the mosquitos don't like us. It cant hurt to bring a bottle.

I've never noticed any mosquitos at WDW. They are definitely around here in Central Florida though. Take some bug spray, but I wouldn't put any on unless the bugs start bothering you. Also if you go somewhere else in the Orlando area, the mosquitos will probably be a lot worse than at WDW.

I found some mosquito wipes at wal mart! I hope they will work as well as spray!

I was thinking about this as well. We are going to WDW in September and unsure if we need to bring bug spray. Avon has these little spray bottles so maybe I should bring one for the just in case.

We're going the first part of June and I figure it can't hurt to have bug spray 'just in case'. The mosquitos love my DD & myself. My DS & DH don't seem to be bothered by them. I found 'individual' size bug spray bottles at Wal-Mart for less than $1 each. I bought one for each of us so that we can each have one with us.

I have gone to WDW at all different times of year and have never needed bug spray. I brought a whole bunch last summer because I read on here that the bugs are awful at AKL and we didn't need it.

OH MY...
I got eaten up pretty badly last year. We went at the beginning of June and I really should have known better. The mosquitos in N.O. are the size of small children but I digress. If you are in MK, ANYWHERE around the water, at night, you will need that bug spray. I was swatting mosquitos for a good 10 or 15 minutes while waiting to get on Haunted Mansion. I RAN through those doors . It didn't really help that the young genius in front of me had hairspray and spritz in her hair. BRING THE SPRAY!!

Just read an AP story that the CDC is now recommending two alternatives to bug spray with DEET as effective:

we have been using a lemon eucalyptus spray/pump for the last few summers up here in maryland. we love the stuff. none of that harsh stuff like with the deet sprays! and doesn't smell bad either. it works great. even introduced my father (who lives in florida) to it a couple summers ago. my step-mom was an avid avon skinso soft person, and now uses this. we buy ours in the camping section at target. it is in a white bottle with (i think) green and yellow lables on it. well worth trying. and the best part is that it is safe for my ds2 to use as well!

We have not ever needed ANY bug spray at WDW at anytime of the year. I used to always pack it and not use it so I got over that...
We use it A LOT here in Minnesota in the summer.

I have read these tips, do they actually work? (I know about other methods, just wanna see about the validity of these)


**Mentioned on the camping board a while ago is to have a bounce dryer sheet in your back pocket and it will repel the flying biting bugs!

**WARM VANILLA SUGAR. It contains vanilla extract and works great!!! My husband keeps a bottle on his workbench in the garage and finds that it works far better than any of the chemical bug repellents plus is not harmful. You just smell like a big ole snickerdoodle.

I read a lot of posts on the disboards about bug sprays and the majority of them were all saying about how great Avon skin so soft is but it had to be the woodland fresh. They have changed the packaging of it in the UK and it is now called soft & fresh its still in the green bottle and so far it seems to work ok! real test will be in WDW not too long to go now will let you know!

I am a mosquito magnet. If you tend to get bitten take some spray. I got bit a lot last June when we were grilling at the cabin.
