Bug repelent for AKL essential ?

In Florida's climate I think bugs are concern at any resort. We returned from CBR a couple of weeks ago and I used lots of bug spray, skin so soft, as I'm one of those people insects love to bite. I did pretty well, only a couple of bites on my arm. Bugs don't bother the rest of my family so go figure :)! It can't hurt to have some repellant with you.

Are bugs a problem at AKL ?

We stayed at AKL during May and Sept of 2001. No bug problems at all. There were some LoveBugs around but nothing like we encountered at the YC during Sept 2000.

We just returned this week. We did not see any extraordinary amount of bugs at AK. After dark, though, there were mosquitoes out. My daughter got bit up quite a bit at Epcot one night waiting for the fireworks.

Hi: Just got back from akl and poly, not one bug bite, and we did not wear any bug repellant. Sat out on our balcony at all hours. Akl is so beautiful.

Deb.

I've never needed bug spay on any of my trips to WDW. I did take some with me on the last trip to AKL but didn't need it. I read a story about some bug called a 'no-see-um' but I think it was some one pulling legs. On all my trips the only bugs I've ever seen at WDW were the love bug and they don't bite. We did however encounter lots of sea gulls on our most recent trip. Do the make repellent for them?:p

I get eaten alive at WDW...it's my opinion that bug spray is essential in Orlando.

We just returned yesterday from AKL. No bug problems at all! The mosquitos usually eat my DD and DS alive, but not one single bite all week. Had Avon S-S-S with me, but never took it out. Have a wonderful trip!!!:)

Hello! The noseeums(midges) are real. There are whole websites on them. I wish they were a figment of my imagination and so did my legs. Do a search on Midges in Google.com if you're interested in these lovely little darlings and their favorite habitat and biting patterns. As one of the people who has been bitten by noseeums, I can attest that they are real and they are different than mosquito bites. Mosquitoes pretty much leave me alone. Fortunately, the noseeums only took four bites before determining my skin was pretty rotten. My DH, DD, DS were in all the same places and never touched. And no, I didn't see the noseeums. I was at WDW this past April when they chowed on me. I did stay at AKl. Don't know if they bit there, or at one of the parks.

I think whether you take and use bug repellant is a personal decision. If you don't mind the risk of being bitten by something then don't take it. Murphy's Law would have it that you'll take repellant and never get a bite, or not take it like I did, and you know the story from there.

Best of luck, either way :D

I would use it,if there isn't any bugs great but if you get bite up its miserable.I used the stuff with the sunscreen and bug repellant. My daughter used nothing and neither one of us had a problem. I still felt better( protected )for the just in case theory. We just returned the 5th and also the only bug we saw was a few lovebugs, until on the drive home and our windsheild was plastered with the ugly critters. We was washed our car when we stopped for gas.Susan

AFTER BITE is necessary!!! I keep the roll-on stick in my park bag! My DH got a bad bug bite after the safari last year.

Also just returned and no bug problem to report... I brought Raid for the room... I like to keep the door open to hear the Ankole cattle clack their horns... but didn't need it... not much of a mosquito problem yet... too dry...

... one bug problem for those driving to... love bugs are in full swing...... there is a car wash at Exxon near Dolphin...

... if you are sensitve to bug bites, be prepared though... better to have and not need it than.... it is hardly a survival event, as some seem to suggest... we seem to have drifted quite a ways from our pioneer forefathers...

We were at the AKL in the beginning of April. The no- see-ums LOVED my daughter but left the rest of us alone. She didn't get the bites at the Lodge but she did on the ferry boat back from the MK one night. From then on we put the Avon skin so soft on her and it kept them away. I'd bring some just in case, we bought ours at the web site and it arrived in 2 days without paying extra money.

Have a great trip!!
