Does anyone remember that drink that was served at camp? People called it Bug Juice.

IIRC, it was pretty nasty.

I miss Hi-C Ekto Cooler and other flavors in cans, even though they did have a slight metallic taste.

Oh. Kind of a confusing title since there are other products with the "Bug Juice" name - mostly some sort of insecticide or repellent product.

Never heard of THAT bug juice. Bug Juice is what my dad called Soy Sauce, and thus, that is what I call it even today. My dad like to fix his style Chinese food once a month for dinner.

I definitely remember it from camp. In retrospect, I have no idea what it really was. I think we were just so thirsty from running around that we just guzzled it down :drinking1

Yes, yes, yes. I was a camp counselor so I always had to order some from the kitchen for overnights and day trips. That still was one of the best summers of my life!

Yes, we called the juice at summer camp bug juice. The explanation I remember was that bugs were attracted to the pitchers full of the juice and inevitably some ended up in the drink! But now I don’t remember if someone actually told me that or I imagined that was the reason.

Take it from someone who worked in food services. This is 100% true. We had the machine that kept it mixed in the top and had a dispenser and bugs would collect on the top rim, just under the lid - hence the name "bug juice"

My parents told me something similar as a kid.

In the 80's there were little bottles of icky sugar water that came in colors we called bug juice AKA Quarter Waters or Hugs or Fruit Barrels. These tasted a whole lot like that sugary whatever liquid that came in those wax straws/ sticks that passed for candy.

I definitely remember bug juice but don't know if it was a watered down version of Koolaid, Hawaiian Punch, or HiC. It was always red so it wasn't the other drink from my youth: Tang.

Never heard of this, but then I never went to summer camp. I do remember outdoor events where those little "Hug" barrels of sugar water were handed out. That stuff is up there with Shasta and "the purple stuff".
