It just occurred to me that I'm not sure what the norm is for paying gratuity at Disney buffets such as Boma since they operate a little different than a typical table service restaurant. We never go to buffets which is why I'm asking! :)

Is it customary to give the same amount I might give at a typical table service restaurant (15%-18%), or is it typical to give less (10%) since they only clear your plates?

I would like to know this too? We are planning to go to Cape May on our trip and there will be 7 of us.

They don't bring your food but have to clean the plates out or your table, refill your drinks, Ask your questions, bring high chairs for babies etc.

You will have an automatic tip of 18% on any meal with over 6 people at it even if they do not all eat or your separate checks.

Even with the Buffets? Guess it does not matter since we would probably tip that any way especially at Cape may since my dad, my sons, and I will go back a couple times for crab lol!!!

Yes, buffets included.

.
1) At most buffets off-site or on business, we tip less.
2) But, at WDW, an eatery-is-an-eatery, and the same level of tip is expected.

WHen I was younger I suppported my family waiting tables. I worked so much harder on the occassions that we had buffet. The tables need a lot more attention, between dirty dishes, refilling beverages, dirty plates....did I mention the multitude of times plates need to be removed in order to avoid an avalanche in the center of the table?????

To me, this is a tough job and anyone who gives me coffee (or wine after some days!) at a meal is my hero!

We have noticed that at many of the buffet restaurants in Disney, we see the waitstaff more than at TS meals! No, they dont serve you food per say, but they are constantly getting us sodas, water, clearing plates, getting us more forks, etc. They seem to be there constantly filling waters and making sure the table is cleared...we tip the normal 18-20% for sure! Have a fabulous trip! Boma is amazing (as is the service!)!
