We use only Penske now. We actually got the largest truck they had, one way from LA to GA, for less than $150. We were shocked. The truck was almost brand new and made for a real nice move.
After a fiasco about 5 years ago, we will never use Uhaul again. We moved from FL to MS and rented a truck with a tow dolly. We booked from Kissimmee, but were called the day before pickup to advise us they had no truck for us. The agent wanted to just cancel our reservation, which would have left us with no truck for the move. After I yelled at the agent, he finally 'found' us a truck in Lakeland, 50 miles away. Then, they wanted to charge extra for renting from Tampa, instead of Kissimmee. We picked up the truck, and were overcharged several hundred dollars over the quoted price. When we argued, we were told to settle it when we arrived in MS. As it turns out, Uhaul is not a true national chain, but a conglomerate of regional markets, each separate from the other. The agents in MS told us they could not refund us, to call Kissimmee. Kissimmee told us even though we reserved through them, they would not refund us, since we picked up in Tampa. Tampa told us they would not refund us, since we reserved in Kissimmee.
After days of phone calls and emails, I finally got fed up and sent an email to their Corporate Office. Within 24 hours, we had our refund, along with a phone call from the Tampa manger literally cursing me out for getting corporate involved.
This was not the first problem we had with Uhaul, but it most definitely will be the last.
