Budget friendly graduation gift????

We do $50 for nieces/nephews. We decided it was an amount we could handle for all of them.
My oldest and her same-aged cousin were the first in their cousin-group to graduate from high school, and I think $50 was the most common thing she received from aunts and uncles. Some just gave a check, while others gave a check and a token gift -- for example, laundry items or a blanket for the dorm room. As the younger cousins reach that milestone and I'm the gift-giving auntie, I intend to give them that same amount. As you said, it's an amount we can afford to give for the number of nieces /nephews we have. I think I'd give them the same thing for high school and college graduations -- from extended family, I think that's fine.

Another idea: Have her diploma professionally framed. This would be especially nice if she's entering a job in which she's expected to display her diploma.
I actually love Dr. Seuss' book "Oh, The Places You'll Go" as a graduation gift. You can always add a small gift card to it if you want something more. But a book with a personal inscription written by you inside is a great keepsake.
No, no, no! While this is a nice idea, it is grossly overdone. Most graduates I know receive multiple copies of this book, all of them with a personal inscription so they can't be exchanged.

My DS graduated from college in May and only my parents and one of my aunts sent him anything. In our family, the kids only really get a gift for HS graduations. His sister who graduated from HS, got lots of gifts, just like he did when he graduated from HS.

I think a card and maybe a check for 2015 would be enough.

I know this might sound like Scrooge, but we have 17 nieces and nephews. We simply do not give college graduation gifts to nieces and nephews. We have figured that between HS graduations, weddings, showers, babies etc, that it is something we did not want to add to our budget,

I know-that is not what you asked, but just passing along a point of view related to the topic.

Ditto. No one got me a college graduation gift either.
