Bruises = being abused?????

When my second daugther was in K, she was twirling around to see her dress fly out -- something every mom of daughters knows that little girls love -- and she fell down hard on the corner of the coffee table. The result was a very nasty bruise right on her cheek. Sure enough, the before-school teacher took it upon herself to call my older daughter out of class to ask how her sister got that nasty bruise. Then when she wasn't happy with the answer, she called Social Services! She never bothered to ask ME or the injured child what'd happened!

I wouldn't think twice about a person who had an occasional bruise; in fact, I just had my hair colored, and I see that there's a big spot on my arm -- it looks just like a bruise, but I see that it's some stray hair dye. On the other hand, someone who had repeated bruises . . .

My cat and I had a nice fight the first time I tried to cut his nails. I ended up with a long gash along my wrist. Not bad enough for stitches, but bad enough I needed it smeared with Neosporin and wrapped up to prevent infection. Everyone at work asked if I tried to kill myself. :rolleyes:

I had a nasty back bruise when I was pregnant and my OB asked about it. DH wasn't even home - he was deployed - and she asked if maybe I had a boyfriend. :rotfl: Yes, at six months pregnant I could totally attract another man. I finally lined it up with the bathroom door knob. I don't know HOW I hit it at that spot, but I did. Apparently.

Yes...it makes those of us who bruise easily paranoid! I'm one of them.

It doesn't take much for me to get a bruise. Unfortunately, my 7 year old has inherited my bruise ability, add to the fact that he's klutzy (gets occupational therapy because he's motor skilled delayed) and I'm basically completely paranoid to send him out anywhere since that always seems to be the first assumption when someone sees a bruise of any sort.

I've had bruises that I have no idea how I got them! They just show up even when I can't remember smacking into something -- they just magically appear. All of a sudden, I'll look and go "oh...I wonder where that one came from".

After reading all of these posts I see I am not the only one who "beats" themselves up and walks around with bruises. If I am not falling I am bumping in to things, like door jambs, door knobs, so on. As I had said I could of avoided that fall had I went out of my way to walk around that mud.

Although as someone else had said and I never thought about it- yes we are lucky that there is someone around who does ask and does care.
