Day 3, Sunday, October 14th 2005
I forgot to mention that I had requested the Pack & Play from the front desk at 6:30 AM yesterday while getting directions to Walmart. The pack and play, complete with a fitted Mickey Sheet was in the room when we returned. The little guy slept very well in it. Whod a thunk it?
Today we have tickets to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) in the MK. We decided to get an early start. I got the Mickey/Stitch wake up call at 7 AM. I got myself ready then got dh moving. The little guy was up and raring to go, but we had to wake the other 2. For the DDA folks out there we were wearing our Brooks Brothers Birthday Shirts which were designed by Julia & Nicks Mom.
We loaded the Vibe and headed for MGM. We drove over and got a decent parking spot in the AAA preferred parking. It was close to the Tram stop but we decided it would be quicker to walk. We were at the park for opening at 9 AM. We headed left to TOT and RRC. DH got fast passes to RRC while I waited with the boys for him to join us. Once he caught up we got a child swap pass and he waited with the little guy while I took the older two with me. This has never been a favorite ride for either of them, but both decided to go as they didnt want to be ridiculed by their horrible parents for chickening out. The sign said 13 minute wait, but I doubt it was that long. We got through the show into and were waiting to board our elevator when I realized that the guy in front of me was wearing a DIS fanny pack. I introduced myself. They were from England and it was their last day. I think their names were Dan and Jacqueline (I apologize if I didnt get that correct, but I didnt have any paper handy to write it down). We chatted briefly then boarded our elevator. The ride was fun and we all survived. We met dh by the photo counter. The boys said they liked it, but didnt want to ride again which translates into I hate the ride, but I wasnt a chicken. He was in and out quickly. We headed to Rockin Roller Coaster. I got the parent swap ticket and told dh that I would take the little guy over to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid while they did RRC. He had already been patient for one ride and I didnt want to push our luck. We got to Little Mermaid about 30 seconds after they closed the door for the show so we used the back entrance and did the meet and greet with Chicken Little and Abby Mallard. I didnt have the autograph book, but got some cute photos of the little guy with the characters. There was no line and no one around so he got some quality time with them. We played around with the computers in there that tells you what character is most like you. I cant remember now who we were most like. They were loading people into Bear in the Big Blue House when we walked out so I took the little guy to the show. Since this is an audience participation show I thought I would participate. That apparently wasnt a good idea because I was blocking the view of the people behind me and was asked to sit down. Now that wasnt very magical, the little guy loved dancing with Mommy, but now hell have to dance alone. I found myself sitting there wondering how many more people views I could have blocked if I hadnt lost 50 lbs last year. Oh well, life goes on.
After Bear we head to the stroller to see if kitchensink guy and his shadows had appeared yet from the Roller Coaster. They were approaching as we got there so I grabbed them all and we headed into Voyage of the Little Mermaid which was about to start. We all really enjoy this show and since it was already hot it was a nice break. After the show we exited and grabbed the autograph book to return to see Chicken Little and Abby Mallard. Again no line so we got our autographs and more photos with all of the boys. We had planned to leave the park at 11:30 AM and head back to the hotel for lunch/swim/nap. As we were exiting the meet and greet a CM talked us into the animation show where you learn to draw a character. It was actually interesting. Mickey was the subject of the day and we all gave it a try. Missing tooth kid loved my rendering and said he wanted to keep it forever. I think I might need to get him a new prescription for his glasses as it wasnt that good. We packed up our drawings and headed out. I was now close to Noon, but we felt we had made a good dent in the activities that we wanted to get done at MGM.
The boys didnt behave well in the car so swimming had been removed from our afternoon break. We made sandwiches in our room. We were using one of the soft sided coolers that we had taken as carryons and had that stocked with drinks. We had cans of tuna with the little packets of mayo and canned corned beef to use for sandwiches. We doubled up gallon zip lock bags and filled with ice to keep everything cool. It worked amazingly well. After a quick lunch we all took a nap. We had planned to be at the MK by 3:45 PM as we had ADRs for the Crystal Palace at 4:05 PM. We had a Mickey Wake up call for 2:30 PM. It took longer to get us all in costume than we had expected, but we werent too far off schedule. We were using the bus from POP as it would take just as long to park at the TTC and get to the MK. We waited quite a while for a bus , but got to the MK around 4 PM.
I said that we were wearing costumes, but I didnt mention what they were. I had selected Hercules as the theme because I could make lightweight costumes that we would all be comfortable. This ended up being great as it was in the high 80s at 4 pm and we didnt need coat or sweatshirts at all during the trip. The little guy was Pegasus. I had made him a white lightweight pajama type costume complete with a stuffed Pegasus Head/hood. I had torn apart an old Bullseye stuffed toy that Stitch had used one Halloween. I used the pieces as a template and made the hood for the little guy. I also had white light up wings that I sewed a feather boa around. He was adorable. If he didnt have the hood on people thought he was an angel. Missing tooth kid was Hercules. I made his costume from top to bottom including the gold medallions. I made it before Disney released their version of the costume this year. Missing tooth kid says that my version is much better. Youve got to love that kid he always knows how to suck up to Mom. Stitch was Hades. We did the blue hair and added black around his eyes. He also had a pair of the blue light up sunglasses. You know the ones that they sell at the parades for $23.57. I bought each of my kids a pair before we went at our local Walmart on Sale for $6 per pair. They were even made by the same company. Kitchensink guy was dressed as Zeus. I made him a purple toga and altered a Santa wig and Beard to look like Zeus. I was surprised by how many people recognized him. (although some people thought he was father time or Santa on a college break?) It was a toss up whether Pegasus or Zeus was the favorite costume. I was Meg. If I was seen with the crew I was recognizable, but without the crew only one CM knew who I was supposed to be. I am a little plump to be Meg as she was depicted as stick thin and I will never be that.
We were running late. We dashed to the security check with our 3 kids, 2 strollers, diaper bag and mesh backpack. I had sewn a Lime Green Mickey head with my screen name to my small backpack/purse and as we are struggling to get through security I hear hi my3princes Im Steamboat Marti and MGKKDM (Marti and Paul). They were on the other side of the security table. It was very cool to run into another DISer, and one that I recognize from the DDA thread to boot. They had been joined by additional family members and were running late too. They said they wouldnt make the 6:15 PM meet. I wish we had had time to talk more, but we were going to miss dinner. We were seated immediately. It was a good meal and we got lots of attention. One of the Cms said that they had voted us the best costumes that they had seen. We even had other guests asking for a photo with us. While sitting there I noticed a family sitting nearby with a shirt that I recognized as one of the Halloween shirts from the DDA thread. I went over and introduced myself. She was Scootersmom. We chatted briefly, but there was a character heading to my table so I had to run. It was fun being surrounded by Gods. And yes, I asked more than a few Cms that evening how they liked being surrounded by Gods.
After dinner we headed to Adventureland. It was before 6 PM and I knew that the jungle cruise was to close at 6 PM so we went on it then. Once we got off I chose to hang out by the Tiki Fountains while the crew went on the Magic Carpet ride. A bunch of DISers were planning to meet at 6:15 PM and I didnt want to miss anyone. I saw from a distance some friends from home, but couldnt get their attention. They ended up running into the crew on the ride. We talked with our friends for a bit then they headed off to Pirates of the Caribbean. The kids were watching other kids getting soaked in the fountains. An official looking CM (I cant for the life of me remember his name, but he says that he lives in City Hall) walked up to us and commented on how cute the kids were and asked if we were with them. I wanted to say no, Ive never seen them before it is completely a coincidence that we have themed costumes, but I thought better of it). He said that he loved our costumes and asked if I had made them. I told him that I made the costumes last Spring when we decided to attend the party. We told him how excited we were to be there. He made small talk about how our vacation was going etc. Then he asked us if we would be staying for the parade. We assured him that we would be there until they booted us out. He then popped the most magical question: How would you like to be Grand Marshals in the parade? Um let me think about that We would love to be Grand Marshals in the parade. Should I kiss your feet now? We got to choose which parade we wanted to be in and chose the 8 PM parade to be sure that the little guy was still awake. The kids were still watching the fountain and had no idea what had just happened. We call them over and casually ask how would you guy like to be in the parade later? Stitch tells me that you cant just be in the parade. I tell him we can because weve been chosen as Grand Marshals. They all look at me in disbelief then let out a resounding yeah!!
We were to meet him at Splash Mountain at 7:30 PM. I was 6:15 PM by now and I havent spotted any other DISers. We give it a few more minutes then decide to try to track down our friends so they can take pictures of us. No DISers ever showed up, but who cares, thanks to the scheduled meet I was going to be in the Parade. We went to Pirates, but there was no wait. Our friends were gone and we had no idea where they were. Why didnt I call them? I was so excited I forgot that I could have called them. We rode the Pirates ride. We headed back to the entrance of Adventureland and ran into Marti and Paul again. Marti was wearing her Mouseketeer Club T-shirt with her name on it and her mouse ears so she was easy to pick out. Cute costume Marti. I practically begged her and Paul to take photos. She said she would. Thank you Paul and Marti.
We went and got our free photo taken. The line moved quickly and we were out with plenty of time to spare. We headed to Splash Mountain early, but were not the first Grand Marshals to get there. Everyone was so excited. We barely noticed that the mosquitoes were eating us alive. We stood there for a long time waiting for one last group to join us. Didnt these people know that they were going to be in the parade? Once they moved us behind the fence they chose who would be riding in which car. We had 2 strollers so we would be on the double decker bus. Kitchensink guy is an old car buff and was a little disappointed that we werent going to be in one of the cars, but he got over it quickly. They load the cars first. We are still waiting and waiting. There was a problem. Apparently the brakes on the bus totally went while they were moving it to the starting point. This could not be happening. They were sending one of the Mainstreet Vehicles to take a few people, buy they wouldnt be able to take us all. They gave us the option of walking the parade route or waiting to be in the 10 PM parade. It was unanimous everyone left would walk. He gets a call and they are trying to send more Main Street Vehicles so if they get there in time they may be able to smoosh us all in. I figure if they provide a jar of vasoline we could all fit in the cars that were already there. Did I mention that we were all very excited? So we are standing there waiting when who walks by , but the largest horse Ive ever seen with the headless horseman riding him. My camera is in my bag, will I have time to get the treasured photo? I whip out the camera and walk forward. I am now 10 yards from them. I took several photos. The rest of the waiting chosen few as I referred to us, follow suit and get photos.
Can this vacation get any better? We are talking to the people waiting with us and it turns out that another family is also on the boards. They are JenAnderson and family. We were both talking about how we were going to post as soon as we got home to see if anyone got photos or video. We knew that lots of DISers were to attend the party that night. If you were there please share your photos with us.
We smiled and waved our way down the parade route. It was an amazing experience for all of us. The little guy did his best queen wave and for the rest of the trip every time we mentioned the word parade he would begin to wave. Thank you Disney for our Magical Moment. For anyone wondering if any perks go along with riding in the parade the short answer is no. We got to stand in a reserved viewing are to watch the parade. It was the sidewalk right in front of the barber shop on Main Street. We did not get a sticker, certificate or photo, Just the amazing memories that will stay with us forever.
We stood in the reserved viewing area to watch the parade. It was delayed due to the fact that all the floats had to navigate around the broken down bus. We waited and waited. We (all of the families that had been Grand Marshals) offered to ride the route again. They laughed. A few minutes later I offered for us to walk the route in reverse (actually backing up the parade route) still no dice. The parade finally came and it was a nice parade. We noticed that Hades was not in the parade and someone said that the Hades costume was not in good shape anymore and that was why he had been removed. Im not sure that I believe this as He is in the parade at MGM everyday. One of the Cms monitoring our viewing area said that the parade is only about ½ complete at this point and that there are some amazing float designs in the works.
The kids were given candy by the people handing out candy along the route, but it wasnt anymore than other kids were given.
After the parade we were all thirsty. There werent a whole lot of options available on Main Street. I left Kitchensink Guy and the boys on the sidewalk in front of Caseys and I went in. The lines were not too bad. I got us sodas and a chili cheese fry and a regular fry. We sat on the sidewalk against the wall of Caseys to have our snack. Main Street was grid locked anyway so we knew we werent going anywhere until after the fireworks. While sitting there our friend from back home came by. She said she wasnt sure if she should speak to us since we were now Disney Royalty. I let her kiss my hand then we talked about how much fun we had. She went to try to find her family. As the fireworks were about to start we moved to the center of Main Street and up about 50 feet. The viewing spot seemed pretty good, but I havent seen Hallowishes from anywhere else so Im probably not a good judge. Hallowishes were amazing. We really enjoyed them. The little guy even liked what he saw as he fell asleep sometime during the show.
After the show we headed into tomorrow land. We did some trick or treating by Buzz and Kitchensink Guy and the older two went on the tomorrow land Speedway. The line was 20 minutes which is significantly shorter than that line on any day weve visited the MK. While sitting there I noticed a woman sitting next to me with a sleeping little boy. She was wearing a Trading Spaces shirt so I asked where she got the idea and you guessed it. She was a DISer. It was their first day and she said her DH wasnt going to believe that she actually met someone from the boards. Their screen name is honeybehr1. We talked the whole time that we waited for our families and they came out at about the same time. The dhs got a good laugh that we were from the boards then we went our separate ways.
We headed to toontown to do some trick or treating. The line for face painting was still 20 deep so we passed it up. I took the older 2 boys on Goofys Barnstormer while dh waited with the little guy. We went to Mickeys House and got a photo with him in his garden dressed as a scarecrow. We went back out and got Pumpkin Donalds picture and headed down the treat trail. We saw Alice, the White Rabbit, The Queen of Hearts and Mr. Walrus. There were lots of Cms dressed as Cards handing out candy. The little guy woke up as we treated ourselves on the trail.
We ended over by space mountain so it was logical to go on it. We did Buzz on the way by and headed into Fantasyland. We did Pooh and the Carousel and caught the last Villian Show and got autographs from some of the Villians. We saw Maleficent, Frollo (Is that his name?), Cruella De Ville, The Big Bad Wolf and the Queen. I also took the older boys picture with the Red Haired dancers from the show. That kept us busy until Midnight so we headed to the front. We decided to get the pin so we went to Exhibition Hall and waited in the very very long line to buy the pins. It took at least a ½ hour to get our pins. We left the park and got into the long line for a Pop bus. The buses were lined up 2 deep to get guests out. We opted to wait until we could get a seat as the boys were wiped out and I wasnt holding them while standing on the way home. We arrived back at Pop and went straight to our room, got out of our costumes and went to bed. We had an absolutely Magical Day, better than I had ever dreamed of.
We would sleep in tomorrow and go to Typhoon Lagoon for its 10 AM opening. I requested a wake up call for 8:30 AM. Tomorrow youll find out how Missing Tooth Kid got his name.
