Okay disers this isn't exactly exciting or fun but I still would like some feedback. I am 21 years old and woke up today and while eating a soft cookie my back left molar disintegrated (!?!?!?!?). Okay I must say that I'm not the healthiest person, my basic diet consists of slim fast bars, 100 calorie snack packs and I do drink a fair share more then I should (ugh, I know but I'm in college!! and work constantly!). I realize these habits may contribute to the rotting of teeth but I always brush my teeth and can they really have effected my teeth so much? I've only really been an avid drinker for two years and my eating habits since I moved out of my parents house when I was 18. Please any help! I'm so freaked out!!!

Well, I think you have to see a dentist... have you called one? Do you have one? They'll have to take a look at your mouth, and they may have an answer for you... Perhaps you have soft teeth, or any number of other things that might affect your teeth.... regardless of what's caused it, you need to see a dentist immediately IMHO...

Did you have tooth decay in that tooth? It is possible that you brux (grind your teeth in your sleep) and fractured your tooth. When to ate, it came apart but the real damage could have been done at night.

If you have/had a filling in that tooth it probably gave up. I had a tooth break apart a few years ago and the dentist said the material is only meant to last about 15 years. So, if you've had any since you were a young child it is time to have them replace. I had the remaining fillings redone over two visits.

I'm not entirely sure if I had a filling in the tooth. I do know that I sometimes grind my teeth in my sleep but not very often. I am going to see the dentist this evening. Thank you each for your responses. :confused3

Just got back from the dentist and had a lovely ROOT CANAL. Apparentely a filling that I had for a cavity there had fallen out and it became infected, rotted with decay and I just spent the last 40 minutes getting drilled. Yea baby! And it's costing a lovely $1000 to us. And I get to go back next week to finish the job!!!! Can someone send me some disney magic please?!?!?!

I had that happen a couple of years ago. I had a filling in a tooth for many years, and while eating a sandwich, the tooth just broke apart. I went to the dentist right away and began the procedure for getting a crown. One variable here is that I am old enough to be your father. In fact, my FILLING was old enough to be your father. ;) Sounds like you have it all squared away now. :)

This just happened to me a few weeks ago. But I had to wait to see the dentist for 2 weeks to get the root canal. Now, I am waiting for the crowning.
I HATE the dentist, but it honestly wasn't that bad this time. I am sorry...it is not a good feeling for your mouth or your wallet.

Yikes, I feel your pain. I spent $2000 out of pocket after insurance last year. Root canal, crown lenghtening, and a crown. Now I am in the middle of a crown for the other side of my mouth. :crazy2: And fixing a few cavities. I drink too much soda.
So here is some pixie dust coming your way! Hope all goes well!
