Broken Suitcase Wheel

Of course things sometimes just break. The handle on my dd princess suitcase just broke off a couple weeks ago. It was getting worn from use and one day it just broke. I've been rolling suitcase down the sidewalk and the wheel breaks. It just happens.
Well I buy quality products. And in this case if I do not think my luggage is up to the trip, I don't use it. I have never had something "break" just because. If it broke, it wasn't used correctly or was abused, and whoever misused/abused it was responsible for its demise. And if it was not in my care, custody or control then the party who had it IS responsible for its breakage.

So, as long as you never lend your things to anyone, they never break. Sounds like pure magic to me. pixiedust:

That strategy works well if you know exactly whose possessed the item when ot was broken. In this case, the baggage went through a lot of channels unsupervised before the OP had it back in her possession.

Years ago my BIL had a company that ran late bags to their owners. If you knew what happened to some luggage on the journey start to finish....you woudl know it is not possible to know exactly who is responsible for a broken wheel. Not unless you see every move.

So do I. My daughters suitcase was from the Disney store and used almost daily as she liked to pack it and play going to Disney. The suitcase that had the wheel break was at least 15 years old. Had been to Europe multiple times, various colleges, New Orleans often etc etc. it just gave out one day. Could I have gone to samsonite and ask for a new wheel- probably. But after 15+ years the bag had lived it's life and I was happy to move on to a new one.
Things sometimes wear out and break.

"Suck it up" is not an opinion... "No, I don't think you'll be able/should be able to get compensation" is an opinion.
It seems to be less 'suck it up' and more 'give it up' to me.

I said this earlier ... I think the OP should ask for a wheel replacement. It might be best if she can get a price on how much it would be to have a part sent to her internationally first and ask for that. A wheel is super easy to install. If Disney says 'no' she is no worse off than she is now. It's really up to Disney to decide if they will provide compensation and what their timeline is for doing that.

Remember the Samsonite commercials from the early 80's? Showed a gorilla jumping up and down on a Samsonite suitcase....classic commercial.

I sure do!!! Some of those bags BIL transported looked like the gorilla won! LOL!

I view luggage wheels, handles, and zippers as collateral damage as a result of traveling. Unless I road trip everywhere and stay in hotels that doesn't have bell services, I pretty much figure something is going to break. It's unfortunate but I would never go back a month later and say "Hey Jet Blue, your luggage handlers that were working Flight 43 from JFK to MCO a month ago, broke the wheel off my samsonite, so buy me a new suitcase."
Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Landed in PIT from Germany; our large Samsonite (polymer with titanium-alloy frame) 2-suiter showed up with a HUGE dent in one end; looked like they had used it to prop up the cargo hatch door, then forgot to remove it when closing it. This was only the second use, and I rolled it over to the baggage office. Instead of offering a new bag, they offered to get it fixed -- had us dump everything out into a "loaner" bag, then sent it off to get repaired. We picked it up 3 weeks later on our return flight to Germany; gave them their loaner and called it even.

So, you've never had your car break down or have some wear-related problem? No household appliances give up the ghost due to a worn-out motor, heating coil failure, water line break? You've never had a computer hard drive crash?

We had a similar situation happen. Brand new set of Samsonite luggage...airline tore it on the way home. They agreed it was their fault and abuse/mishandling on their part. They had a company repair it. That company did an amazing job and they shipped it to us when it was done. The airline also gave us a travel voucher for our inconvenience which I didn't ask for but was a great good will gesture!!

Just remembered I had a luggage incident last year. I was able to check my carry-on at the gate on the way home from MCO this past October. When I opened it to unpack it, the whole inside support material had been pulverized to bits. I promptly went and ordered a new Minnie Mouse inspired piece from American Tourister on line. Wonder if I should call and see if someone would pick up the tab for me. :scratchin They kind of did me a favor, as my old piece was nasty looking and I love my new red with white polka dotted bag.
