Broken front teeth, has anyone been through this??

When my dh was 12, he was hit and run by a car while riding his bike. When he fell, he broke one front tooth off and the dentist capped it. I don't think it required a root canal, but it's ready to be replaced soon. I can see the line where his tooth and the redone part meet.

My brother, sister and I ALL broke a front tooth when we were kids.

Mine happened when I was 11. My brother threw a Chuck E. Cheese game token at me, which hit me in the mouth, and my front tooth just shattered into little bits. The exposed nerves were pain unlike anything I'd ever felt! :scared1: Out dentist was kind of a quack, so I had this thick, yellowish, unmatched crown for many years. About 5 years ago, I finally had my crown redone (I actually had both front teeth done), and they look better than before my tooth broke! My dentist did a fantastic job, and they look and feel very natural. :teeth:

I hope everything works out for your DD; I know the feeling!

Just a quick update.

My baby survived the day! And what a day... One look and the endodontist decided she needed to have 2 root canals, both front teeth. The nerves were exposed and there really was no other choice.
She toughed it out. Her little fist was clenched so tightly there was no blood running through it and she was squeezing the life out of her doll. Lots of tears and panic but she made it. I felt so helpless sitting there rubbing her legs, it was the only part I could reach as she had 3 people working on her at once. But you know, she told me after she was very aware that I was doing that, so even though I felt completely helpless I guess just being right beside her was enough. It is what she needed most and as difficult as it was sitting there listening to her being so scared and in pain, wild horses couldnt have dragged me away.

So, the worst is behind her now, she even feels very confident about that. She is getting used to her new smile and cant wait to get some front teeth again!

Thank you again for all your support! I truly do appreciate it!:goodvibes

Oh the poor little thing!! I'm so glad she's being so brave and you both made it through the day. I know it's not even close to the same but when my DD3 fell when she was 2 and broke both her top front teeth I was a wreck. And they were baby teeth! So, I do understand a bit about how you felt. It's a very horrible helpless feeling. But apparently by reading this thread, it's happened to a lot of people!!

Big hugs to you and your DD!

I understand exactly what you are going through. My DD ran into a concrete block wall in a gym and hit it teeth first when she was 11. She broke her two top front teeth. One tooth shattered. The other tooth broke off in one piece and they were able to bond it back on. None of her nerves were exposed. The other tooth, they reconstructed it with bonding materials. Her teeth looked great after the work was done. She got braces soon afterwards so it's hard to tell they look through all the metal. She is now 13. The dentist said she will need to get permanent crowns sometime after she is 18 and we just have to watch them closely because she may have to have a root canal if/when there are signs the tooth is dying. The dentist also said to expect her to break them at some point throughout her teen years. It is common for them to break when you simply forget and bite into something hard. He even said pizza is a common culprit due to the way you bite and tear a bite of pizza with your front teeth.

I freaked when she broke her teeth off but then I couldn't believe how good they looked after the work was done. People tell me that they would never know just by looking at her. I bet this will be the case for your DD too!! Oh and since my DD did this, I found out alot of people we know have done the same thing but I never would have known had they not told me.

Bless her little heart and yours! I cringed just reading about it! Hope all goes well and she soon gets her new beautiful front teeth! :flower3:
