Broadway Theatre strike IS OVER!!!!

I have matinee tickets to Young Frankenstein today. I know that the show is on the "safe" list, but I'm wondering how "safe" it is--will the stagehands of YF strike in solidarity? To top it off, it's going to be a cold and damp day (44 degree with chances of shower), not exactly a "tramping around the city for fun" kind of day.

Oh SHOOT!! I just remembered we bought these through a "ticket broker" read scalper I guess. I better get ALL my money back!
It depends on the ticket broker: StubHub will refund shipping. Go Tickets will not refund shipping.

On the safe list?????? Is that true!? Oh and it is snowing right now.

YIPPEE!! I just read that Young Frankstein has a separate deal with the Teamsters and the show WILL GO ON!(along with Xanadu and Mary Poppins and a couple of others that I didn't recognize)

This makes me so mad.

I'm really sorry to anyone who has a show to go to today or really soon.

My mom's birthday is on Monday and the past two years, my sister and I have bought tickets to go to a broadway show for her birthday. This year we bought tickets to the Radio City Christmas show, just a few days before Christmas and we're in the 5th row. This is a birthday present for my mom. I want to go to the show, I don't just want my money back!!

Young Frankenstein is a different union. They aren't on strike.

:thumbsup2 Thank you! I am hopeful for all the others holding tickets to shows that are impacted by this.

Actually it's not the Teamsters that are striking, it's IATSE. I would imagine that any shows or venues with a seperate IATSE contract will be safe at least until December.

Radio City is a different contract. There has been zero discussions about them going out on strike. Don't start worrying about it at this time.

oops sorry I always blame the teamsters. Not right I know- I am hoping that they don't strike in solidarity(at least until December:rolleyes1 )

Great!! I have tickets for Young Frankenstein and dinner at Daniel for the Saturday after Thanksgiving!
PLUS my MOTHER is going to be here for 4 days to celebrate Thanksgiving and then watch the kids for the night!(not something I would have suggested in any way shape or form if we weren't going out)

Hopefully it will get settled quickly but that is highly unlikely. :sad2:

Young Frankenstein is not affected!:cool1: It is one of the only shows that will remain open if the strike does happen.

My mom's best friends and their kids were coming up here from California to see A Chorus Line tonight and Legally Blonde tomorrow, and we were meeting them for dinner tomorrow. It took months of planning, and now we have to make up a whole new plan in a matter of hours. Spelling Bee's open, so they might see that. And my mom just called me about them seeing the Off-Broadway The Fantasticks, which she has to run by them of course. The thing is, the girls are 13, 12, and 11, and they don't want to go shopping or really do much else. They're huge theatre fans, so this is a major bummer for them. I feel so bad! :sad2:

My dd, 14, is 'supposed' to head to NYC tomorrow, with a group of Girl Scouts, as well as a choral group from our high school, to see "Hairspray". Poor kid...her first trip to NYC and now this. Does anyone (Anne???) think they may still go up tomorrow? Could they resolve berfore tomorrow's matinee?
While I do understand unions (grew up in a union household), sometimes I have to wonder if they have basically outgrown their usefullness. Ah well...will just have to wait and see. But I do feel badly for the poor girls who have been looking forward to tomorrow's trip for close to a year!!!

Bumping. I've enclosed in the original post a list of the shows affected.

If you have to go to a theatre box office to get a refund, don't worry about getting hassled by picket lines. They generally do not hassle the theatre goers. They have no beef with you. :( They want this to end too. No one is making money during the strike.

Other businesses affected are the restaurants & Broadway theatre souvenir/gift shops usually patronized by the before/after Broadway crowd. :(

Someone on a Rent forum I go on had 46 tix to see Legally Blonde tomorrow night (she was taking her daughter's soccer team). I feel so bad for her. :(

I'm really starting to get worried, though. If this strike lasts longer than a week, a few shows, including Rent, could be in danger of closing forever. Let's hope they get this resolved ASAP.

Radio City isn't affected, I was at the show today and all was well. :)
:thumbsup2

I'm back from the matinee of Young Frankenstein, and everything went off without a hitch. The foot traffic around Time Square was lighter than usual, but not by much. The car traffic on the other hand was bad. It seemed like every street was having some utility work done. It took us 25 minutes to get from the 40th and Broadway to Midtown Tunnel.

How was the show?!!! I can't wait to go. 2 weeks and counting.

Glad you got to see your play!:goodvibes

Well looks like we're outta luck for tomorrow, but we're going to take the train down to the city anyone and just have a fun touristy day. I wonder if museums etc. will be packed because of the strike or empty because people stay out of the City.:confused3

This stinks. I hope everything gets worked out soon.

That's a shame. I hope things get resolved soon. We just saw Grease last Saturday for my birthday. I'm sorry to all of those effected by this!
