I think they could have found someone with a better voice for my favorite character! I really can't stand Brittany Murphys laugh, but I'm not the one making the decisions! :)

at least she doens't sound like Spongebob when she laughs.

I was a little surprised with the voice casting. Then again, I was surprised they were making a movie about Tinkerbell.

Well at least they didnt use julia roberts again, like they did in Hook, or demi moore. I really can't think of anyone that would be a good voice for Tinkerbell for a movie.

I didn't think Tinkerbell HAD a voice. I thought she was just supposed to make bell-like noises to communicate? :confused3

But then again, I am also suprised they are making a Tinkerbell movie. Can't they make a GUY movie for once? And not something overly girly/princess related?

I feel like my DS is getting left out in the cold because Disney focuses so much attention on their Princess stuff. :(

Wow!! I missed something! There's a Tinkerbelle movie coming out??

Tinker Bell Finds Voice in Brittany Murphy

Murphy will voice the popular green fairy in a straight-to-video movie for Disney.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK (June 20) - Peter Pan's feisty, but previously mute, flying fairy sidekick has finally found her voice.

Actress Brittany Murphy will be the Walt Disney Co.'s first-ever voice for Tinker Bell, giving the gift of speech to the precocious winged creature who until now communicated via facial expressions and jingling.

The iconic green sprite is returning to the screen in a direct-to-video film slated for release next year as part of Disney's new "Fairies" line of products, which the company touted on Tuesday at the Licensing 2006 International Show in New York.

Decked out in a tight pink dress and pink Christian Louboutin heels, Murphy, the star of "8 Mile" and "Just Married," looked every bit the curvaceous Tinker Bell vixen as she smiled for a throng of cameras at the event.

"How could one possibly say no to Disney and being the voice of Tinker Bell?" the 28-year-old actress said in an interview with Reuters. "I thought maybe I'm too spunky or gritty, but that's who Tinker Bell is."

The creation of author and playwright J.M. Barrie, Tinker Bell spent the last hundred years fluttering about Peter Pan, jealous of Wendy Darling but never speaking up -- until now.

"Anyone that can steal the screen without a single word of dialogue certainly deserves a film of her very own," said Disney Studios Chairman Richard Cook.

Murphy, whose earliest childhood memories include listening to her mother read Barrie's book, said she thought it important for the famous fairy to finally have her own voice.

"She's such a strong, vibrant, feisty personality, an incredible role model for young women," said Murphy, who also provides the voice for the character Luanne Platter on the animated Fox television show "King of the Hill."

"She's been jingling for 50 years and communicating all of her thoughts and all of her strength and all of her humor through jingling light. Finally, she's able to communicate through words," she told Reuters.

Disney's "Fairies" merchandise franchise rolled out last fall and follows on the success of the company's "Princess" line, which reached sales of $3 billion in fiscal 2005.

Disney expects the Fairies line, aimed at girls aged 4 to 11, to generate at least $1 billion in annual sales within 4 years, Disney spokesman Gary Foster said.

Brittney Murphy was on David Letterman last night. What a ditzy girl. I had to turn the channel she was that aggravating to listen to. :sad2:

I first saw this last night while watching CNN and this "news" was scrolling across the bottem of the tv. Didn't think Tinkerbell getting a voice was such big news!

Because Cars is totally girl-focused, right? ;)

Anyway... Brittany Murphy is also the voice of Luanne on King of the Hill, so while she wouldn've been my first choice, I'm glad she at least has character voicing skills.

Personally, I would have chosen Kristin Chenoweth. She was Glinda in "Wicked" on Broadway.

Isn't Brittany Murphy the voice of Luanne Platter (King of the Hill), or am I mistaken?

If so, I can't imagine seeing Tink and thinking Luanne.

Oops - just saw that someone already answered that for me.

No, she wouldn't be my first thought as Tink's voice but I'm glad they're doing a movie. I wonder if it will be "Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg" and based on the first of the Fairie series books. Isabella has devoured them all. She will love the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean is also very girl-focused

Oh, wait a minute... it actually IS! Although, it are older girls who totally love those pirates!!

(Johnny Depp makes such a sexy pirate!)

I had a CM in May tell me there was a Tinkerbell movie coming out. We had searched everywhere for any kind of souvie, mainly a t-shirt, with just Snow White for DD2. I finally spoke to the "specialist" in DTD. He told me all of Snow White's merchandise had been cancelled. When I asked why he said it's because Disney promotes one main character at a time. When I replied that Tinkerbell must be the character for now because it was everywhere he said yes and it was because there was a movie coming out. Although, he did say the movie was coming out later this summer and not next year.

Well, the devil better put on his parka 'cause I have to agree with TOV on this one. ;)
Why is Tinkerbell talking at all?

I just think that if they are going to push Princess/Fairies lines, they should push the Adventurers/Buzz Lightyear lines just as hard.

Because darn it...boys are people too. :)
