LONDON (Reuters) - British Airways canceled one of its three daily flights from London to Washington Thursday following security advice from the government, a BA spokesman said.
The same flight, BA 223, was detained on the tarmac at Washington's Dulles International Airport Wednesday for several hours shortly after landing.

FBI and Transportation Security Administration agents questioned passengers and crew for several hours aboard the flight and no arrests were made.

"We canceled the flight for security reasons given to us by the UK government," the BA spokesman told Reuters. He did not give further details about the type of information given by the government.

A spokeswoman for Britain's Department of Transport said she was unable to comment on whether the cancellation was a result of a specific threat.

The BA spokesman said alternative arrangements had been made for the 180 passengers on Thursday's flight, which had been scheduled to leave Heathrow airport at 10:05 a.m. (1005 GMT).

Neither of the other two daily flights had been canceled, the spokesman said.

Hi, JJ! I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jen. We have a lot in common. I, too, have no life and enjoy spending my time searching for news articles on the internet and posting them randomly on message boards that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. It's so much fun. I don't even have to post my own opinion about it; after all, the articles don't pertain to me in the least, so why would I have an opinion about it?

Hi Jen please to meet you i'm jj  -- What opinion am i suppose to have on it Jen its only justed happened

jj......

Funny -- all the same news links appear on my AOL Welcome screen. Maybe I should just cancel AOL.

Well, as with the Thai Airlines thing a couple of day ago, I don't think we should let any flight into our country if we have reason to believe it may be dangerous. And I think other countries should have the same right.

I just turned to FOXS news to see if I could hear about this..

My husband goes to Ireland at the middle/end of the month.
I wasn't too worried when he went before - but this time I am. He did tell me that if the Terror Alert was high, that his work probably wouldn't send him.

The places that you don't except anything to happen at or out of is what scares me.

Working for Ebay/Paypal and being an american interest over seas if that would be a target or not.

British Airways is considering whether to ground one of its Washington flights for a second day amid security fears.

Also The United States suspended oil shipments for two days from Alaska's major port of Valdez as a security precaution amid a heightened terror alert, officials said on Thursday.
The halt of oil transfers onto tankers began on Tuesday and was lifted on Thursday. It was part of "a continuing effort to ensure the security of our homeland," consistent with Code Orange, the second-highest alert level the United States has been at since Dec. 21, said Russ Knocke, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman.

"Right now we are allowing tanker traffic throughout the port," Lt. jg Latarsha McQueen of the Coast Guard's Valdez Marine Safety Office said. "Appropriate safety measures are being taken with regard to the security information that we have."

It was not clear what specifically triggered the decision to suspend the traffic.

Valdez is the terminal for the trans-Alaskan pipeline from Prudhoe Bay. The 800-mile pipeline normally carries about 1 million barrels a day to Valdez, or about 17 percent of U.S. domestic production.

There seems no end to it

Buckleybunch one thing if people stop travelling the Terrorists will have won. JMHO

JJ - I agree. I would have not problem flying all over the USA. Him going overseas does bother me. It won't stop him.

I'm just glad I haven't cashed all my BA miles in yet. Looks like I'll be flying first class by the time I do fly overseas again.

jj....... ::yes::

Yeah because we aren't trying to cure it as well. So what are we supposed to do, let these flights in just because it's not part of the "cure"? And what exactly do you think will cure all this? It's so easy to just cut and paste and not offer up your opinion. If you think you have the answer, lets hear it.

I'm not the one copying and pasting these articles, am I?

Even if you don't have an idea, why don't you give us your thoughts. Maybe I am just reading you wrong, I would like to know. I doubt it, but hey, I'm willing to see.

I would REALLY like to know what you meant about your prevention instead of curing comment. Thanks.

Maybe just fishing.....

I thought i covered that on the 3rd post down.

Prevention - the act of preventing or hindering - impeding.

Prevent - Middle English, to anticipate, from Latin praeventus, past participle of praevenire to come before, anticipate, forestall,

I must say Dan you must be a great Fisherman ;)

jj, I would like to have an intelligent conversation with you, but I guess you are not choosing to participate. Oh well. I guess that goes to show what a troll you really are.

Hey guess what, I got interviewed by a local news crew at the Philly airport! They were asking people if they were worried about terrorism. I'm so embarassed, I may be on the evening news tonight. I was just trying to pick up a relative, when they cornered me., lol! :sunny:

So look for me, anyone who gets it!

About the other stuff...JJ don't you like us? I haven't been following this saga. I always wanted to visit your country, because I heard that the countryside is so beautiful, and the people are so nice. You would probably find that we all have more in common, than different.:sunny:

Minnie, Ireland is such a beautiful country. I can't wait to go back. Hopefully this time DH and I will be able to do a tour in addition to visiting with his family.

Rob goes back to Ireland (Dublin) at the end of the month.. I was hoping to go back with him when they talked about it in Oct. but I can't afford it right now - plus the terror alert and softball starts so I'll need to stay home.
