Not surprised they are taking a go at marriage. Kind of hard to forget about the ex when there's a child involved that keeps you communicating whether you like it or not.
What is her mother supposed to do? Ground her? Nothing she can do but try to get along or she may never see her daughter or grandchild.
There is no way that this is a political ploy to get her elected in 2012. She isn't as dumb as everyone makes her out to be and knows there is no way she'd win- even with a makeunder, dialect lessons, and an Arlin party switcheroo.

Forgiveness and redemption?
I was 18 and my husband 17 when our oldest son was born. He was a total and complete donkey's behind..he had nothing to do with me during the pregnancy and when our son was born he showed up at the hospital and when asked if he was the dad by the nurse he said "supposedly". He said horrible things about me and my family. This went on for almost 3 years and one day he came to me and apologized. I chose to forgive him. My family did not understand at all how I could go back with him but ultimately it was up to me. We got married and have been happily married for almost 10 years now. Sometimes people do change. It could not have been easy to tell her mom that they are going to get married after what they went through. I can't imagine going through it publicly. I wish them the best.
Guess we'll know soon, say in about 9 (8?) months
