Bristol Palin and DWTS results

This show has lost ALL credibility. They will need to rethink the rules for next season. Maybe just leave it up to the judges. I don't even think Bristol deserved the Top 10.

Exactly what credibility did it have in the first place? It's a reality TV show where people in the public eye "try" to learn complicated dances in a week and then the general public (most of whom have NO dance experience) vote for them over the telephone. It isn't the Olympics.

Silly result, and I'm sure there are a lot of Mom's followers who are voting.

Just as I'm sure a lot of the people "outraged" over the whole thing are Mom haters.

Apparently, the execs of DWTS felt she had enough 'star' status to pursue her as a contestant on the show. I'm not sure how her situation is any different from others who have appeared on the show. I don't think any of the Bachelor/Bachelorettes came to the show with any particular accomplishments that deemed them a 'star', but it was still enjoyable watching them dance.

Such a good point! ABC can pick and choose WHOEVER they want to choose as their "stars". And WE can vote for WHOEVER we choose. Others who are bitter, sore losers just need to get over it already...........................

It's not? :rotfl2:

I didn't say Bristol was a star, your words, I said Steve Wozniak is not a star in my opinion, yet I don't recall any screaming protests about that. Making a mistake by getting pregnant as an unmarried teen is far different than lying to a grand jury and going to prison (Lil Kim anyone, or molesting teenagers, such as Lawrence Taylor). Where was the outrage regarding Lil Kim being on a family oriented show? Please. True colors are showing clearly on this thread.

Look, I truly do not care WHO is on this show. I watch it, and I've never voted. I find it mildly amusing but don't care enough to vote, and I do not care who "wins." I was merely responding to your assertion that Wozniak was not a star...while you seemingly are defending Bristol Palin's "right" to be on the show, and in the final three. That made me LOL. The producers of that show have plainly been very liberal in their interpretation of the word "star." And, I think the Woz has just as much "right" to dance as does Bristol Palin. At least he's done something ON HIS OWN...whereas there is no doubt that Bristol Palin WOULD NOT BE on that show but for her mother.

But Brady is not famous, on the show because of her mistakes. She actually has a careeer.

First of all, she HAD a career. Second, she IS on the show because of her mistake of killing someone with a car.

Let's be real here. 90% of the people who dance on DWTS are not relevant anymore in Hollywood. So to say who's a star and who isn't is really silly because none of them carry much weight anymore.

Nobody is perfect, but who gets to be a show or called a "star" because of their mistakes? She decided to be on TV. People on TV get to be talked about all the time. Bristol is only "acomplishments" are being Palin's daughter, being an unwed teen mother, and being a mediocre dancer on a show. There's really nothing else she's known for. She wants to be a "celebrity", and be on the spotlight. That comes with a lot of scrutiny, especially for those who are know because of who they are, and not for some talent, ability, or outstanding work.

What you quoted was a response to someone who said Bristol had never done anything to be proud of. It really had nothing to do with her being on DWTS so while you are entitled to your opinion on that matter, it really has nothing to do with my post you quoted.

A few years ago, on another message board, someone posted the rules for American Idol, along with the fine print at the end of the show. In those rules there was a line that said something to the effect that advancement in the competition was at the sole discretion of the producers. I then realized that everything, as I had feared, was in the hands of those looking to extract as much drama as possible from the show.

And, yes, November is sweeps.
I remember reading that once and then I think a couple of judges where complaining about it. Saying that the producers have final say in who advances and that it really didn't matter what the judges said or what the call in votes were.

It is all done for nothing more then ratings and money. That is why my DH and I don't get vested in the performers / contestants. Their being there is at the producers discretion and their getting kicked off often has nothing to do with their talent. They just weren't creating enough drama to justify keeping them around.

One of the shows, So You Think You Can Dance, (I think ;)) has the audience narrow down to the bottom two boys and girls and then the judges vote for the one they want to keep.

That being said, I have enjoyed the way that DWTS is done until now. I think there are some loopholes (like allowing people to make up email addresses and vote 300 times for one person) that will need to be closed.

I just can't imagine having that boring and pathetic of a life that I had nothing better to do then to make up emails and vote for some stranger hundreds of times. Why? They are getting nothing out of it. They don't know the person and they aren't getting paid anything to do it.

:thumbsup2

comparing Wozniak to Bristol is such a joke! She has accomplished nothing - especially nothing to be particularly proud of!

ETA: another thing I have noticed: most everyone else loses weight busting their but on this show. Yet, Bristol seems to be looking even heavier with each show recently. What is up with that?

I don't want to restate my opinion of Bristol Palin's dancing ability but I have to comment on the second part of this post. I have been wondering the same thing about her weight. Almost everyone else that goes on this show has looked like the are in a weight loss boot camp. My take has always been that the contestants go on this show to not only further their careers but to also get a kick start into losing weight. Being young (and at least a lot younger than most) you would think that it would be easier for her to drop her extra weight. I don't understand how she is not losing weight if she is working as hard as everyone else. I can speak from experience that it is much easier to drop that weight when you are young.

Just as I'm sure a lot of the people "outraged" over the whole thing are Mom haters.

I don't have a clue how good or bad she is. I wouldn't watch this year because I won't watch anything with an agenda involving her. I think DWTS has completely jumped the shark and I only get my feedback on what's going on here.

Hey Robin! I look forward to watching American Idol this year and reading your comments here on DIS. I just hope that the folks at AI don't get any big ideas and put one of the Palin's through. Bristol or Willow can't sing can they?

You know this is my first season of watching this show and I have to say, Bristol is not in the finals because she's an A+ dancer, but isn't that the point of the show? She has hung in there and sometimes I think people vote for the underdog. Most of the people on this show have been in the limelight as athletes, singers, child stars etc. Bristol is a bit different. To me when I watch her, I see a young woman who is not that comfortable in her own skin yet and I can only imagine how it feels for her or any of them to get up there and dance on live TV. I admire that in her, the ability to really go out of her comfort zone and do something different. And she's not dumb, she's lived in her family long enough to know any one of them could find the cure for cancer and plenty of people would still hate them to a level that is sort of scary when you get down to it.

Jennifer Grey is I think the "best" but she's had dance experience. I mean she got to dance with Patrick Swaze 20+ years ago and her father is Joel Grey so dancing is very much in her blood. Brandy was a performer and again, I am thinking stagefright was not a problem for her. She always looked very grumpy to me maybe that's why she got voted off. I did think she was incredibly good and she improved so much so I am sorry she is gone.

But back to Bristol, one thing is for sure, anything that has any association with her mom will bring out the passion on all sides of the coin. I almost feel sorry for her after reading this thread because it would appear a lot of people are very much interested in how much she just stinks in general. You pretty much know that as soon as people start playing the fat card with anybody, the hate factor is up pretty high with whoever it is they are commenting on.

The show is fun, I don't care who wins. If ABC wanted the dancers to remain based on merit only, they wouldn't have it set up the way they do.

I take offense to your statement. Where did you ever get the idea that commenting on someone's weight is the same as hate? I think is only natural to wonder about why someone who is going through a common experience is not seeing a typical response. This is why I commented about why Bristol Palin is one of the very few contestants who has been on this show that has not appeared to lose weight. I am sure that learning those dances is hard and most "stars" look like they have been through boot camp by this time in the season. As a person who could stand to lose a lot of weight myself, you can believe that I am not hating Bristol Palin because of her weight.

...I, for one, can't wait for Robin's comments either....:rolleyes1 popcorn::

Sorry if you are offended but to me after all the other ways she's gotten raked over the coals to play the fat card was in a word a bit hateful. I don't even know if if was you or somebody else that said that about her but whenever that issue gets brought up, whether its Bristol or an ECCV thread, my dander is raised. But again, sorry if you were offended.

I have a lot of weight to lose too. Hence my take on this. Come over to the Wish board, we are a nice bunch over there and the support is awesome. I haven't gotten to goal yet (boy have I not) but its a great board.:)

I feel a bit motherly towards her, and frankly I am always for the underdog.

LOL, it's what I LIVE for!! Let's just hope they have a better group than LAST year!! :scared: I'll take a Palin over some of the junk we had to deal with back then!!! :lmao:
