Bristol Palin and DWTS results

There were some pretty nasty remarks and statements by many who were participating in that discussion, not just the Palin sisters.

Again, I do not condone calling someone a homophobic name, and that FB thread is sad on many levels.

Yes, the whole lot of them look pretty bad with the way they posted there. :sad2: What bothers me about the Palin sisters though, is that Bristol is the very first to respond to the simple opinion that the Alaska show is "failing", by using profanity. Apparently, she has a history of disagreement with "Tre", because she complains about him previously pretending not to know what DWTS was. :confused3 Again, not exactly a personal attack on her or her family. Why so upset over such minor comments?

I can give Willow a little more benefit of the doubt, because she seems to be upset at something "Matt" said, but there is no post by Matt before hers, so it appears to have been deleted. We don't know how nasty that comment may or may not have been, and while it wouldn't excuse Willow's comments, it is more understandable (IMO) if she is retaliating in kind to a true attack, versus a comment about not liking her family's reality show.

On that we completely agree, not the least of which was the repeated misuse of your versus you're. Ouch. However, the original post that precipitated the mess did not seem to warrant the OTT response it received from Bristol, who brought in the profanity and certainly did not include the slurs and personal attacks until Willow jumped in. But, you are right, there are nasty responses from many. And, honestly, I hope that the parents of all of them, not just the Palins, got a wake-up call.

Wow! Just read the link. The response was definitely over the top. So someone says they didn't like the show and that equates to "talkin' trash about my family." Willow is not going to survive fame/notoriety very well at all.

Oops, sorry, don't know how I missed that! I think I've gotten so used to generalizations on this thread, I was in that mindset when I read your comment. :)

My point on SOME versus ALL, is just that. All teens don't talk that way. Most teens don't talk that way. Some teens do talk that way. Those who excuse the language because "teens talk that way" seem to think it's much more common than my experience tells me. And if it's common in "some" groups of kids, those are the groups I tell my kids to avoid.

I agree. Not all teens talk that way. And there really is no excuse for using that language, no matter who is using it, or how old or young they are.

If someone was using the "n" word I would say they acted trashy. Same thing for the "f" word.

Saying someone's behavior is trashy is completely different than calling some a vile name.

I'll go out on the limb and say that MOST teens use either f-t, retard or gay. All of those words I find just as inappropriate and uncalled for.

I see those words on FB too often. And some of the kids are YOUNG (too young to actually have anaccount even). I always wonder, where are their parents?

The exchange between those kids was awful--not just the Palin girls but the who mess of them. Honestly, I think I can actually sympathize a biI don't think it meanst more with the Palin girls than the other kids because they sounded angered and defensive. Handled it wrong? Sure they did but I'd also say they were *pushed* by kids who were egging them on also. The use of the f slur was very bad. Gay, well, gay is a word that kids use very often these days with a different meaning. of course, kids use the word retard and ******** like crazy too--it is so offensive but they don't seem to *get* that.

I have a 16yo who doesn't talk like that and very few of her FB do either. However, I do read some FB stuff that'd curl your hair. And sometimes it isn't in a heated exchange--it is just their way of speaking. Ugh.

I disagree - I think SOME kids use those horrible words, not most.

I still wonder how many of them hear it at home too. I've heard some adults say the "r" and "f" word and it stuns me. Ignorance is everywhere. I always wonder how these people were brought up.

Wow...all those people on FB are trash, Palin sisters included. But the Palin girls also get a big old "You're also STUPID!" from me. I mean really, with all the scrutiny their family is under, to go on and post that kind of trash? STUPID.

Wonder what Mama Bear has to say about that?

I said in an earlier post that the two words are on different levels, but both are still negative name-calling. But you think it's ok for you to call her trash? Maybe it's just a different level of hypocricy then.

If enough people reported her posts for "hate speech", they sure could have disabled her account.

Didn't she say "you're SO gay"? Not "you're gay"?. When I was in school, and even when I hear it said today, it was more of a you're so stupid, or lame, dumb...whatever. I don't know that when I was in school or when it is even said today that people meant to call the other person gay as in they are gay. If saying you're so gay is considered hate speech, the Thought Police are out in force.

If someone (including Willow or Bristol) had said "you're gay and I hate you because you are gay, and I am going to make your life miserable because you are gay", yea, then that I would consider gay bashing, hate speech, whatever you want to say.

You are correct in the way many teens use the word today. Also, it wasn't too long ago when the word had a very different and positive fun meaning. If I heard an older senior citizen using it, I would think they were applying their own meaning and not trying to offend anyone.

I don't know how many different ways I can explain this.

Saying someone's behavior is classles and trashy is completely different than calling them trash. Not hypocricy at all. Saying the "n" word, the "r" word and gay bashing are trashy BEHAVIORS.

Saying someone is acting in a classless or trashy manner is NOT name-calling.

Do you understand the difference?

Has this thread really come to this? Sounds like politicians dissecting words. How many times would a person have to engage in trashy behavior before they themselves would become trashy??:rotfl: (j/k, no need to answer please)

I was looking forward to the answer :confused3;):surfweb:

That's fine. Perhaps it's different areas. Or, maybe it's an age difference.

I'm 24 - I was in high school not too long ago. A catholic high school. I know how freely people used these words - MOST of them.

Then in college I lived with my cousins and their 2 kids in middle school and into high school. The kids I met in their age group were worse.

In my experience, most kids use at least one of the 3 words I listed without concern. I also think they are getting worse every year.
