brining wine and beer on board

Yep, while DCL used to have a much more lax policy on it, they definitely still have a pretty good one. RCCL is 2 bottles per room upon embarkation only. I think that's just wine too, not beer. With DCL you can all bring beer or wine on board at every stop. And there is no rule as to who consumes it, only where it is consumed, so even your husband can bring some on board to share with friends if he would like.

Sweet thanks! I wasn't sure if when you buy at the ports they had to hold onto it for you until the end of the cruise.
Any amount over the quota they will hold for you. Same if you bring on liquor. You will be directed to a table after security where they will take your package and write a receipt with what you brought on board and the size. One receipt goes on your items, the other you keep. You MUST present your receipt to the claim desk BEFORE your disembark the ship on the last morning of the cruise.

If you can get the shops to wrap or put your alcohol in a box for transport, that would be really smart to do, since I don't know how well you can trust Disney to store that stuff until the last morning. Plus there are always accidents.

the port restocking feature was nice, we bought a 12 pack in Bar Harbor in Sept and they gave us no problems bringing it on and to our stateroom...

also re: the carrying the wine around, it's true, I ended up not buying a wine package for dinner because the concierge lounge hooked it up before dinner, they poured some nice ones! I didn't sail concierge in the fall however and I did still bring my glass of wine with me from my stateroom to dinner

Bringing wine onboard...is there any problem with bringing a wine opener? Would that be confiscated?

Wine openers, assuming it is just a standard corkscrew type and not a multi-tool with some form of blade, should not be confiscated. Your stateroom attendant can also normally get you one if you forget.

I'll add that the corkscrew you get from room service is the basic type with just a wooden handle and the "screw". (I tried to post a link to a picture but for some reason it isn't working so I deleted it).

If you are like me and you don't like using that type, then definitely bring your own! We always do (never once been questioned), as we prefer to use ours even when we order a bottle of wine from room service.

You can argue semantics until the cows come home. The point here is that grown adults can make their own decisions using the available information.
Agreed. People can take the info and use it however they want. Also just because you do something doesn't mean your advocating others do it.

It won't be confiscated by DCL, but you do have to do a little bit of "bag management." If you are flying in, it might not be allowed in your carry on bag, better to put it in a checked bag. Likewise, don't plan on taking it off the ship during an excursion. I had a pair of scissors in a day bag that had been in a checked bag for the flight, but when I carried the day bag off the ship (the third time, first two times nothing was said) it was confiscated by port security. No big deal for me, just a pair of scissors. it was only in there because I forgot to take it out, but just something to keep in mind depending on where you keep things while on board.

Is it a wooden handle, the one we got on a previous cruise had a plastic handle that snapped when we tried to use it. We pack on in our luggage.

You're probably be right about wood vs plastic. We haven't sailed on Disney since Oct of 2016 and the memory fades :P. I just know that the corkscrews they give you on board are beyond cheap and ridiculous. Bring your own!!

The ones they give you at GCV suck too. Although watching the room service guy try and get another corkscrews in to get that cork out was funny!

That's what our wine bottle looked like after our corkscrew snapped. The room host was able to open it for us with another opener.

The cork in this d'asti was SUPER dry and would have been a tough pull at the best of times. The room service guy had sweat running down his face by the time he got it out lol

They would do well to stock a few twin blade corkscrews for dry, old and troublesome corks. Makes a huge difference.

We always bring our own wine opener, and one time we tried to bring a pairing knife on board with it to slice apples.... they confiscated the knife and left the wine opener

And then you have my father, who had several pocket knives (As long as I've been alive he's almost always had two in his pockets, and they're usually about the max legal size.) with him, in his checked luggage, and they didn't take anything.

I was really surprised they caught it because I put it in a hardcase bag in a hidden pocket, when I got 2 of 3 pieces at my stateroom I was like, "crap, they found it!", the delay in receiving my luggage was the biggest hassle about it.... and we never picked it up because we knew there was a chance we'd lose it but I was impressed when they mailed it to us about 4 weeks post cruise!

There are going to be four of us bringing our allotted bottles of bubbles on board with us in April - do we have to have them in our individual carry-ons? Or can I put them all in one wine check/bag to maximize space? We'd all be going through security and boarding together ...
