Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

I have my fingers crossed in the hopes that DCL will also do the same for this cruise:

Not sure who posted about this but this was sevvverrrrraaaaaallllll long pages back but (going off the May cruise) Disney gave every stateroom a book on the making of the Panama Canal. It was called "Portrait of the Panama Canal" with text written by William Friar although she introduced herself as Willie Friar. She also held the post of Panama Canal director for the last 10 years before she retired. Very nice lady. Anyway, I'm hoping they'll do this also for this cruise. It was a nice gesture and served as a momento for the captain to sign. Also, on the nights that DH and I went to Palo's we missed out on some treats like the little maracas :confused3 shaped like mickey and minnie. However, the table next to us was able to get the red and white mouseketeer badges and they saved them for us. SOOOOOOO - my suggestion would be- assuming you have tablemates and ressies for Palo - ask them if they can pickup any mementos that the head server may give that way you all don't miss out on anything.

BTW, DCL had all kinds of guest speakers onboard; among them was Ducky Williams. On the last day of the cruise DCL gave every stateroom a signed lithograph from Mr. Williams. It was nice but oversized. I was afraid to pack it in the suitcase for getting it wrinkled but I wasn't the only one. It seems that almost every other person was carrying the same white folder. I'm hoping that they will also do the same for this return cruise. Hope I didn't spoil anything for anyone if you didn't already know about this. Sorry if I did. This just came to me and it spilled out. I haven't been able to read the newsletter so wasn't sure if this was mentioned. Later - have more catching up to do. Haven't even started physically packing yet. Mentally - I'm just about done. :rotfl: :rotfl2: Anyway, see you all soon. Laura :wave2:

Again going off of old news - I was told to expect very hot, sticky and extremely uncomfortable (think sopping wet humidity :umbrella: ) weather during August thru PC. In May, they'd had monsoon rain the few days prior to us passing but the gods were smiling on the Magic for its very 1st crossing and they chose to shine on us. It was hot, hot and humid but again, a very sunshiny day. Natives mentioned that this was unusual. Take lots and lots of sunscreen as this was where DH and I got burned. That's with my wearing my DCL cap and sunscreen every hour and even retiring to Deck 4 to get out of the sun on deck9 and 10. Be afraid my friends be very afraid. Oh and don't forget your rosary beads in case of rain. (Hey - it worked last time)

Later - Laura

Or you could work on the principle that if you leave the place in a mess, the burglars will look through the window and think that you have already been burgled so they wil; go away again!

Karen, didn't work last time we were burgled!!!!!

Are you leaving tomorrow? Have a great journey. I love travelling, however tiring it is, and I can tend to get a bit hot and bothered, but the moment I board a plane I still get a thrill. I love touching down on foreign land too.

Did you see the air crash in Greece? I always say that there is a major air disaster just before we fly. In this case, there has been too many. What a shame this lot weren't as lucky as the Mississagua lot.

Joy sends best wishes to Emma. Joy is still sleeping at the moment. She had two friends over from Manchester yesterday and they went out to see Natasha Bedingfield. Of course, they couldn't go to bed when they got in, had to talk it over, watch DVDs, eat and drink. Then they were all up at 5.45 a.m. to go to the airport. Joy came home from the airport at 7.30 a.m. and went straight back to bed!!!

Hope to see you around the parks, if not on the Magic.

Pam

Good Morning fellow cruisers.

Hope was asking last night about a the list of kid cruisers as I was printing out the list of adult cruisers. She is getting anxious to hook up with some fellow 13 yr. old girls.

I have re-thought brining the big pin bag (that sucker weighted 11lbs all by itself. I have the three fairy pins packed, and some of the lastest company D pins, is there anything special anyone is looking for?

The kids list has just been sent. There are three people on my list that did not get a copy. I will send them PMs if possible, but if you have their e-mail addresses, please forward them to me so I can send them a copy. Thanks.

Tmeyer, Makorin and rechid1 (I have this one, but can't recall the name it is under :( )

Tracy

The clothes are packed (what a lot of work!) Still have a lot of misc things to pack though. How the heck will all these clothes EVER fit into one cabin? I can't imagine how we are going to manage all our stuff. I hope we don't have to keep any of it in suitcases. I hate living out of a suitcase. I did pack lot of clothes right on hangers so it will be easier to unpack but I don't think the closet is long enough to hold our junk.

Thanks for the kid's list Tracy. Now I just have to wait until I get home so I can check it out. Work updated the firewall so we can't access our home email accounts anymore, because too many people were downloading viruses and other stuff and messing up the network. :(

Reneé

BTW - I'm all packed and ready to go! 1 1/2 more days of work after today. Yippee!!!!

Sure, if you don't mind sending it to me here. That would be great!

Thanks.

BTW - I used those compressable bags for packing our clothes again, and they worked great. Even though our bags are a couple of pounds under the airline weight limit, we still have plenty of room inside to put the water bottles that we're buying in CA. Now I don't have to spend an arm and a leg to buy water on the ship and don't have to worry about getting it on the ship either.

Look what I just bought - http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/mes..._nylon/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=18644

I got it in pink to match the Wallet Bag that I got for this trip.

It will arrive on August 23 so I'll have it for the next cruise. Even if I paid for expedited shipping it would get to me too late. I can't believe I'm still buying things. I just can't help it.

I don't know what prompted me to do so, but I measured my suitcase. If I measure the case itself it is 62 inches but if I include the wheels it is 64. Does anyone know if they include the wheels in the calculation for size limitation?

This is probably my last post....although it may happen that I have a few minutes tomorrow. See you all on board

Renee - I have both the small and large Wallet.Bagg! I just love them! I do need a new large as I have worn out the one I have. Hmmmm... I wonder if I have it shipped to HISP if I will actually have it before we cruise. What to do, what to do.

That's funny about having it shipped to the HISP, because I thought of doing the exact same thing. I just got worried that even if I paid for the expedited shipping, I might not get it in time, and then my bag would be stuck CA. So I opted to have it shipped to my parent's house so it won't be sitting outside on my front porch in case it comes UPS.

Congrats to everyone leaving soon! Have a safe trip! Looking forward to seeing everyone on board!

Just wanted to wish everyone safe travels. We will probably be one of the last ones to leave.

Packed one more suitcase and in the process of cleaning my house too.

I know some of you are starting your vacation early, so we want to wish you all safe travels. We hope you have clear skies, calm water and mild temperatures on your cruise! :wizard: We know how excited you all are and know you are going to have a great time - how can you not on a 14-night DISNEY cruise.

I know this is a little late, but here is my best tip for the cruise.... On PC day, walk around the ship, don't just stay up front. Best views are front, back (hidden deck on 7 or 8?), and deck 4 you really get the best feeling of the ship moving up and down (and it's also great when you start to get too hot - you can go from port to starboard side and walk through the air conditioning). And don't forget deck 3 - you can get a great close up look at the lock walls and air conditioning - doubly cool!

Can't wait to see all of your posts and pictures.
We will be lurking on your board and reliving our cruise.

BON VOYAGE!!!

I think we are the last to leave, Fri nite 8:30 from JFK, So I think I will be lonely Fri. with no posts to read.

Safe trips, haven't even started packing and will have the cleaning lady come while I'm gone!
