Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Hello, hello, and welcome to a celebration vacation PTR! I'm Kristen and I will be your tour guide through this fun adventure through Walt Disney World celebrating a birthday, an anniversary, and most importantly, bringing my family back to WDW for the first time since 2001 and PRAYING they like the place! Now I know it sounds a little cray cray to have to PRAY that people would like what is us DISers’ favorite place in the world...however, I unfortunately don't come from a family of Disney lovers. My mom enjoys WDW well enough but my dad and my brother would be perfectly fine if they never had to go back again, ever. SAD AND DERANGED, I KNOW!

Anywho, before I get into my crazy family I'll introduce myself. This isn't my first rodeo here on the DISboards but I have been super MIA for a few years now. I've lurked around here and there but that's about it. As I mentioned, I'm Kristen, a 26 year old 1st grade teacher who currently lives in the Tampa area of Florida. I was born and raised in NY but my husband, our puppy and I moved to FL last October. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least but it's feeling like home a little more each day. I've been to Disney 13 times and this trip will be my 14th. There is no place in the world I'd rather be than WDW. If I'm not at Disney, I'm daydreaming about being there, or living vicariously through friends who are there at that time.

Next, we have Chris, my 29 year old hubby who has been working in the cable/internet/phone business for the past 6 years. We've been married for a year and a half but just celebrated being together for 7 years! When we first went to Disney together in 2009, he had only ever been to the MK one time when he was about 12. So, he was basically a newbie. I'm proud to say that I picked a winner and Chris has worked his way up to a Disney lover and will now look for any excuse to get to WDW, even if it's just for the day. Between his WDW love and his love for me, there’s not much more a girl could ask for!

Since we moved to FL last year, we are now a little less than 2 hrs away from the World. Life has been crazy since our relocation and up to this point, we've only made it to WDW twice since we got here. We plan to change this over the summer because, as I mentioned, I'm a teacher and will have the whole summer off! Day and long weekend trips, here we come :thumbsup2

Here's a few pictures of us from our wedding in 2012...

And from our Disneymoon, right after the wedding...

At our first Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party...yes, Chris is wearing eyeliner lol

We also have another super important part of our lives, our little baby girl, Daisy. Daisy was 10 weeks old when we picked up and moved 1200 miles away into our home. Probably not the most intelligent decision we’ve ever made but we wouldn’t trade it or her for anything. Daisy is a Sprocker Spaniel (half cocker spaniel, half springer spaniel) and brings us SO MUCH joy on a daily basis. We are those dog owners who treat their dog like it’s their actual child. Chris and I just love our fur baby!!

That’s her at 10 weeks on the left, in my car on the way down to FL from NY and then on the right is her just last week. Isn’t she absolutely precious?!

Since I said this PTR is for a trip that includes a birthday celebration, let me fill you in on that now! My 27th birthday is on August 4th, so it's me we'll be celebrating! :yay: And, as if spending your birthday in WDW with your loving husband isn't great enough, we'll be staying at the Villas at the Grand Floridian Resort :cloud9: ANDDDDD, as if THAT isn't enough, my mom, dad and brother will be joining us, making their first trip to WDW since 2001!! :goodvibes To say I'm excited is the understatement of the century!!!

And now, for the rest of the trip participants...

That is my brother, Kevin. He is 24 and will always be, to me, my baby brother. He pretty much thinks he’s too cool for everything, except his sister. We get along great now (I say now because up until about 3 years ago, we didn’t lol) and are super protective of one another. Kevin and Chris get along great top! Since Chris and I moved to FL, I’ve been nonstop trying to get him to move down here. Like I said earlier, he doesn’t have much of an interest in Disney but is excited to get to spend my birthday with me and happy to do it to please me!

Here is my mom, Karen (mom from here on out). Do you believe this woman is 50 years old? Well, in this picture she was a month shy of 49 but she basically looks the same now. Clearly she looks great and won't mind the fact that I put her age out there on the internet lol My mom is, aside from Chris, my best friend. It has been extremely hard for me to be away from her since my family is still in NY. She is the most amazing mother in the world, no competition. I am ECSTATIC that I’ll get to spend my birthday with her (and my dad and brother) and that I’m getting to do that in my favorite place!

And last, but certainly not least, we have my daddy, Kevin (dad from here on out). He’s 52 (looks darn good, too!) and would move heaven and Earth if he thought that’s what I wanted. No joke, the man lives and breathes for me and our family. Had it not been for my begging, my dad wouldn't have gone back to Disney until there were (2-legged) grandkids in the picture. However, he knew I wanted him to come, so he’s coming!

Since I've introduced my parents, I should add in that it is their anniversary that we’ll be celebrating in the World! On June 3, they'll have been married for 30 years. AND THEY STILL LIKE EACH OTHER! lol but for real, they enjoy spending time with each other and I aspire to have a marriage as strong and withstanding as theirs. They don't know that I plan to do a few things to surprise them for this milestone while we’re in Disney.

Now you know the cast of this excursion, let me get into the details.

When: August 3-7, 2014
Where: August 3- AS Music (ASM), 2 rooms

August 4 (my birthday)- Villas at the Grand Floridian Resort (VGF), studio villa

August 5-7- Pop Century (Pop), 2 rooms

Why: Birthday and Anniversary Celebrations
How: My parents are flying down to our house near Tampa on the 2nd and then we’re driving over to WDW on the 3rd

Actually, my parents and brother are heading back to NY on the 6th and Chris and I are staying the extra day and night before driving home. I should also mention that we’ve never done a split stay before. Now, we’re not only switching resorts once, but twice. I’m hoping that goes smoothly because Chris isn’t hugely thrilled about it. Chris and I are DVC members (WOOHOO!) and VGF was only available on 8/4, hence all the resort switching. There was NO WAY I was passing up the opportunity to stay there on my birthday!

I hope you’ll stick around to hear all the fun that is to come in just a few months for myself and my family. School is out in two more weeks for me and then I’ll have lots of time to update, too! So say hi, make yourself comfortable, and stay tuned for more!!

Ummm YOU KNOW I'M HERE FOR THIS ONE! :thumbsup2

I'm so excited your whole family is coming down to hang out at DISNEY with you & Chris! That's going to be a blast :)

I hope yall are able to make it over one day while we're there in September. We need to ride Tower of Terror together!

AHHHH, so glad you're here, Lauren! We miss you guys so much. What are your September dates again? Chris' brother is going with his GF and we're hoping to get down there at least for the day. It'd be great if their trip overlapped with yours!

Joining in from FB; be back to read in a bit.

Glad you're here, Kathy! I have to go read through your PTR.

We're there 9/13 - 9/20 (it's a Saturday through Saturday). *crossing my fingers yall can make it*

Joining the fun, thanks for posting on facebook. Your wedding pictures are wonderful.

Thanks for joining in and thank you for the compliment!! :goodvibes

Noooooo :( we'll be there 9/21, Chris works on Saturdays so we can't come earlier than that. What time is your flight on the 20th? Maybe we can drive over just for a few hours on the 14th. If you're leaving early. Go figure! :headache:

Kristen, I am back and caught up.

I loved your wedding pictures (we had a family wedding last year and it brings back beautiful memories). Daisy is absolutely adorable.

I have to tell you that my husband and I have never had a desire to stay at the GF. But when he saw the Dumbo on the beds at the GF Villas he said maybe we'll stay there a night or two sometime. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'm so glad that your family will be there to celebrate with you. And congrats to your parents on their 30th (our 31st is today).

I leave in 8 days for my girls trip, but I will keep up as best I can until then and then when we get back.

Oh...and I saw you'll be there in September. Hubby and I will be there September 19 - 26.

You were such a beautiful bride. :bride: I love your wedding pictures.
You live two hours away from Disney and you've only been twice in the last year? You feelin' ok?

Thank you for the compliments! Our wedding was really everything we hoped it'd be, as is Daisy :) Aww, that's cute that your hubby wants to stay at the GF because of the Dumbo above the bed lol I really never had an interest to stay there either until DVC was built there. Plus, VGF is the only studio villa that can sleep 5 so it works perfectly for us.

Happy anniversary!!! pixiedust: I hope you've had a wonderful day! Did you do anything exciting to celebrate?

I'm going to head over to your PTR for your girls trip right now. We're planning on heading there just for the day in September. Chris' brother and his GF will be there September 18-22. We'll probably drive down the night of the 20th and head back home on the 21st. We'll have to try and meet up!!

Thank you!! :) Wish I could have someone do my hair and makeup regularly lol

OMG, tell me about it. The thought of it does make me ill. We've actually been there 3x in the past year because we went for a week last July when we still lived in NY. But life has been hectic since moving, plus we have to always find something to do with Daisy when we go! This summer, we will rectify this ridiculousness :thumbsup2

Yes, I can see a villa fitting five working well.

Happy anniversary!!! pixiedust: I hope you've had a wonderful day! Did you do anything exciting to celebrate?

My husband umps baseball (it is what pays for our annual trip) and had a game at 8:15 tonight. So we just went to Steak & Shake; we are treating ourselves to Flying Fish for the first time in September as our special anniversary dinner.

I hope we can at least say hello. I think on the 21st, if I'm remembering my plans correctly, that we are at Epcot in the afternoon and evening. I promised Mark a more "laid back trip" since we were just there in December and March. So that day we are at the pool in the morning. I'm sure my plans will change a million times before then. But I hope we can say hello.

We're driving down, so I'm not sure what time we'll head out on the 20th to go home. Probably early since Josh will wanna get back at a decent time that night.

We'll be at Magic Kingdom on the 14th and then we're eating at Whispering Canyon that night... so we have to make something work!

Ok, I don't see an issue on our end with finding some time in there to say hello! I never turn down a trip to Epcot lol :)

Oh yea, I'd imagine so. I'll have to talk to Chris! He put in a bid for a new shift at work this week so we'll have to base it on that when he finds out what he got. I need to see you and the kiddos and finally get to meet Josh and Chloe!

That's a great picture of you and your dad.

We will miss you by just about a week. :sad1: We are coming back home on July 26th.

Thanks! He started crying shortly after that lol

Oh mannnn! What are your exact dates and when will you be back after that?

Thanks to everyone who has joined in! It’s great to have old friends and new here :goodvibes I hope you’re all having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to anyone who may be reading who has served in the military or has had family who has served. We appreciate your service more than our words can express!

Let’s get into some details of the trip, most importantly, the FOOD! Any DISer knows that food and dining reservations are a huge part of a WDW trip. And, especially because my family is coming with us, I wanted to make sure that we ate at some great places. Currently, we have ADR’s for…

August 4th- California Grill @ 9:05 pm

This will now be the 3rd attempt by Chris and I to eat at the California Grill. The first attempt was on our honeymoon. The first night of that trip was supposed to be spent at CG. Well, our wedding ended up being the day before Hurricane Sandy walloped Long Island, NYC and New Jersey, as well as the rest of the East Coast from Virginia, north. So, our honeymoon that was supposed to start on October 29th was postponed and began on October 31st instead. In other words, bye bye California Grill. Chris and I went back to WDW in July of 2013 which is when CG was being renovated. Another missed chance to eat there! Obviously, we’re anxious to finally get to try it! This dinner is part of my parents’ birthday gift to me and I can’t wait. I really want some of their sushi! Oh and of course, I can’t waittttttt to see Wishes! from the restaurant!

August 5th- Beaches and Cream @ 4:00 pm

Chris and I always love eating here and since there will finally be more than just the two of us eating there, we’re going to try the Kitchen Sink for the very first time!

The food here is just delicious, we’ve never had a bad experience and I can’t wait to show my parents how cute it is there! We’ll be heading to Epcot after we finish dinner so it’s also the perfect location for us as well.

August 6th- ‘Ohana @ 8:10 pm

One of our absolute favorite Disney restaurants, we passed it up last July and will NOT make that mistake again! I wish we could take my parents and brother here but I wanted to keep the food costs down for them since they’re paying $200 for a freaking 2 day park ticket. So, I saved it for mine and Chris’ last night, after my family goes back to NY. We’ll pop right over to the MK after dinner.

We get there on August 3rd and I didn’t make any ADRs for that night, again to keep costs down. We’ll probably go to DTD and I’d love to take them to Wolfgang Puck Express, a place Chris and I fell in love with on our honeymoon when we walked right over to DTD from our room at Saratoga Springs.

There’s also a good chance we’ll do a sit down breakfast somewhere too when mom, dad and Kevin are with us. I’m leaning towards Kona Café

…but I’ve always wanted to try Olivia’s over at OKW.

We’ll see! My parents love doing sit down breakfasts.

So that’s what I have currently. There could definitely be changes made before August 3rd.

Oh! Tomorrow is the 180 day mark for Chris’ 30th birthday trip (November 22nd). I asked him where he wanted to eat for his birthday and he told me to surprise him. AKA he just didn’t feel like picking a place. Suggestions anyone???

Well, that’s it for now! I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend. I’ll be sitting here patiently waiting for 8:00 for the Rangers game. LET’S GO RANGERS!!!!!!! Tomorrow, we’re going to Busch Gardens! Can’t wait for that!

Awesome food choices! :thumbsup2

Cali Grill is somewhere I have always wanted to try, but I would never bring the kids there. My kids are just a tad bit rambunctious to eat somewhere so fancy. :rotfl: I bet yall are going to love it!

Mmm Beaches & Cream! It's such a cute little place. Good luck with the Kitchen Sink! :woohoo:

OHANA! I remember when we ate there together with our strong Lapu Lapu's. ALways a wonderful choice!

Kona breakfast is delicious, but I would definitely say go for Olivia's! It's such an underrated place and the kids & I are there about 3 times when we all stayed at OKW. Loved it!

Don't feel bad...we've not been to California Grill yet either. We've cancelled it twice and I couldn't fit it in for September since we are trying Flying Fish this time. :(

We LOVE Beaches & Cream...such a fun place.

Unfortunately, we were not a fan of Ohana after all the hype. It was our most disappointing meal last year.

We love Wolfgang's; and we stay at OKW a lot of our trips and absolutely LOVE Olivia's for breakfast and dinner.
