Bringing someone else's kids

I'm bringing my two nieces and nephew with us on our next cruise so they can enjoy it with their cousins (God help me).

Other than a passport or BC, are there specific documents that I need for them to board with me, say a "permission slip" from their parents? They're all minors.

Yes! You will need notarized letters from the parents stating they allow you to bring them on the trip.

I have to do this with my OWN kids! LOL! My DH is not coming on the January cruise with us and I was told I need him to get a letter notarized so I can show it at check in. Not only that, but my recently widowed girlfriend is bringing her daughter....she needs to bring her husband's death certificate to show at check in!!!! Great way to start a fun vacation, huh?

I am a single mum(divorced)from the UK bringing my dd(14). Do I have to have a letter of permisson from my Ex-Husband to take our daughter on board? I have taken her to WDW twice before alone and I have never needed a letter from him to do this.
Not a problem if I do, but I have never thought about it.

I've never heard of that. Why would you need a letter from your ex? I have taken my son, without his father, and no one ever said anything to me about it...and we don't even have the same last names!
What you do need, and what I always sent with my son when he traveled with his grandparents, was a letter saying they were allowed to ok any medical procedures should he need them while traveling with them. Thank the Lord they never had to use it!

There is a MINOR form in the cruise documents that you use when you there is a child not traveling with a parent or legal guaradian.

((note--it says parent not parents)) The minor form is when the child is traveling without one of their parents. (such as with grandma, aunt, uncle, friend, etc)

I e-mailed Disney awhile ago with the same question - as there was quite the discussion on this board - and they sent me something like this--

Disney Cruise Line does not require a note or form from the other parent if you are traveling alone with your child or are the legal guardian of the child.

I have never heard from anyone on these board that had to provide such a letter (or death certificate) when they are traveling as a single parent.

Just curious...WHO told you that? I am taking my three kids without DH and nobody told me that.

I think it might depend on how you are traveling. I know a friend of mine took her then 16 & 17 yr old DDs to Mexico (no on a cruise) and was told nothing by her Travel Agent about this, but when she got to customs in Mexico they almost would not let her in because she did not have a notarized letter from her DH allowing her to take the kids out of the US. They then wisked her away and asked her for money - under the table- to let her and the kids in Mexico. Not knowing what to do, she paid them but was so mad at her agent for this.

When I went to Disney with my nefew last month, I asked for a copy of his insurance card and for any medicines he might be allergic to. I would just check to make sure that they have noconditions that you might not be aware of, as minor as they might be. That way IF for some reason something happened you can answer medical questions about them.

Can you be my uncle? I would even babysit! LOL

My DH and I took our grandson and nephew with us last year and besides the form in the documents regarding MINORS we only brought along notorized letters from my DD and DSIL stating it was okay to take them out of the country (per our TA) and permission for medical care if needed.

They are lucky kids, Mike....I'll bet you're their favorite uncle!

I am bringing my best friends 2 sons (16 and 15) on our next cruise....they are best friends with my kids. I called Disney and they said in the DOCS there is a page that needs to be filled out and noterized. I will take a letter with permission to treat granted to me as well as a list of meds they take and those they may be allergic to.

Well..I hope you're right. But my travel agent specifically mentioned it to me, she said reservations with one adult and children come up with a flag that requires her to tell the person making the reservation that permission from the parent not traveling is required.

I'm going to email DCL to make sure! That would be a drag if my friend had to bring her husband's death cert. No big deal for me to get a permission letter from my husband.

we did this exact thing we had a notorized letter from the parents and also a notorized letter for medical purpose and copy of insusrance cards and copy of birth certificates there is also a card in your cruise packet too: Mike

We took our GS on DCL the last 2 yrs. Both times we had his dad and mom sign 2 different cards and got them notarized.(the ones that come from DCL with the documents). His parents are divorced, and our son has custody. We still had both parents do this just to cover all bases. One less thing to worry about and a whole lot easier on the nerves.

I couldn't agree more, S.C. Better to be safe than sorry. I was refused medical treatment for my grandson at a clinic last year in FL, because the medical authorization slip I had from my daughter, was not notarized. We spent 10 hours in a hospital ER because of that, rather than a few hours at a clinic (a hosptial will treat you without a slip, a clinic will not) and his condition worsened due to the delay and he ended up on IVs. Needless to say, it didn't make for a good day at Disney.

I will be better prepared from now on. You just never know what you will need, so it's better to have more than you need, rather than not enough.

Just an update...I've canceled our January Wonder cruise and booked with RCCL. I was told the same thing again, though, for RCCL. I must have a notarized letter from my husband and my girlfriend has to bring a certified copy of her husband's death certificate.

Did you ever get a reply directly from DCL concerning their policy on this? Or is this only what your TA is saying?
