According to the document about transfers we pick up our cases and then take them out to the representative who will be outside the terminal. Usually in European airports the baggage reclaim can only be accessed by people coming in to the country rather than having the open carosels like the US has. I've never been in to Barcelona but I assume it is the same as other European airports and you claim your baggage then go through customs and out of airport.

We fly out of Dayton OH on the 17th to Atlanta then from Atlanta to Barcelona arriving the morning of the 18th. Do we claim our luggage in Atlanta or is it automatically forwarded to the next plane? I assume we claim our luggage in Barcelona.

It sounds like you are flying Delta. They tag your bags the entire way. The tags should indicate two stops - ATL and BCN. It is a good idea to look at them when placed on your bags to be sure they have both because sometimes the luggage tag is printed wrong.

Whether a bag is tagged for the entire trip depends on whether the airlines have an agreement about baggage transfer. Some airlines do not have the agreement (mainly the budget airlines) and you have to claim your bags at the first stop and check them in with the second airline. The check in agent tells you when this is the case.

Because you are flying on Delta the entire way you do not have to worry about claiming a bag in Atlanta. When you arrive in Barcelona you will first go through passport control, and then you will be directed to the baggage area to claim your bags. You next go through customs under the sign that says non-EU citizens, nothing to claim. Ususally customs is a matter of just walking through a doorway.

There have been quite a few reports that the pickpockets are in full force in Barcelona this year including around the airport. Be aware and take care of your belongings.

We took the bike tour last evening and it was awesome. The gentleman, Max was from London but he knew so much Spanish history and information. The 7pm tour was just us 5 so it was like a private tour. I recommend it highly!!

I am so glad you were able to take this tour - the Sunday morning tour on the 19th has 24 in it - a bit more of a crowd!

We did the Fat Tire tour in Berlin and it was the highlight of our visit.

My dd(9) and I (Dad) are 1st timers and have questions about claiming luggage. We fly out of Dayton OH on the 17th to Atlanta then from Atlanta to Barcelona arriving the morning of the 18th. We have Disney Air & transfers. Thanks for your replies in advance. Can't believe we are less than 2 weeks away.

When you check in at Dayton, ask to have your bags checked all the way through to Barcelona. They usually do that anyway, but just ask to make sure.

We have been waiting for our second Grandchild to arrive, this blessed event happened on the 4th at 10:15 pm. Both Mother and baby girl are doing fine.
Now, we can really get excited about the cruise, and getting some well needed rest

Hi Gang,

I don't know where my head has been - but it's been pointed out to me that the Ladies Brunch on 8/20 - that starts at 10:30am - basically conflicts w/the Dis Meet - and ?? also w/the ice cream social????)
There is no way I can change the time of the brunch - can we push back the time of the meet?
Any ideas friends??

I think this was brought up ages ago by Lindsay and cause no one said it was a problem we went ahead with the meet as it was. Not sure how many people have already printed navigators thats the only thing thats gonna change and Id suggest we make a decision now cause we need to update everything. The Ice-Cream social I think has had invitations already made etc. Not sure though

I am game to change the meet time - Whatever is best to accomodate everyone is fine with me.

Question is when is a good time to do that.... What if we did the meet at 10:00 a.m. - that way it hopefully won't interfere with other activities - and the Brunch group can still participate, albeit only for 1/2 hour.

Alternatively, does it make sense to move it to the afternoon on the same day??

Also, As I posted that we added my dh yesterday a.m. - Well today his documents including air tickets came - Talk about speedy service!! DH will be thrilled and I can stop stressing that the tickets wouldn't get here...

LOL This has just brightened my day! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has problems with these stupid envelopes! For the first time last night I actually managed to get one open first time!

She's a mechanical genius, just ask her about using a paper cutter. Come to think of it, Disney ought to have her give a paper cutter demonstration on the cruise; no, on second thought it could be a major safety hazard ...too many people falling off the ship from rolling on the deck laughing so hard.
