Dee - I'm in full agreement about the train - the absolute best way to see Europe and also get to meet some locals. I have never driven in Europe and am not likely to do so soon. Other than major highways (which have all the appeal of I-95) the roads are narrow, curvey, and no shoulders. Gas is about $6 a gallon. And all but the most expensive rental cars are stick-shift. In case of car problems, do not expect people outside of major cities to understand English.

I would consider driving for a short day trip to a specific spot, but not for long distances (I too am a wimp). There is a reason that so many high quality trains go from Paris to Barcelona. Europeans also prefer to vacation by train.

Hi all!

I've been lurking a lot lately, just thought I'd check in! I haven't had much to add to the thread in the last few days because I'm planning on flying to Europe early as most of you are. I have to say, I'm jealous! bridgemanva, I loved the pic you posted! What an amazing bridge! I will look forward to hearing about all of your "pre-Magic" journeys when we all board the ship next August.

Here's a tribute to the Magic's last great cruise! Oh, what a day we had in the canal!

Have a Disney Day everyone!

It's actually only 706 miles -- takes that long to drive to WDW from here. My husband drives anywhere-- actually takes pleaseure in it. I am researching car rental issues I have found a few places that actually look doable. The price of gas -- well we may be equaling that amount by then. Our family likes the road trip and has traveled the US, Canada and Mexico via a roadtrip-- both of us have lived in europe in our younger days so it seems like an adventure and we can set our own itinerary and pace.

Our hold up at present is time-- we're both juggling our schedules this year and trying to game plan for more than two weeks out of the office at crunch times for me the beginning of the school year and for him the wind down of the fiscal year.

Fortunately as has been said this is a planners dream so I'm just planning for options.

Bridgemanva -- have you tried autoeurope.com?

Hi everyone! Wow! Lots of posts to catch up on. Between having family down for Easter and such and going to WDW for a few days, I'm finally back for a bit to catch up. I would love to be going to Paris and meet all you there. Unfortunately ( :confused3 ) we'll be on the Magic

Yes, I have it's one of the sites I've estimated costs and avaialbility of equipment. Thanks

Hey Dalt Wisney --- there's a number of us that are doing B2B cruises. I'm planning on doing Disneyland Paris before this 10 Night --- kind of depends on how much my bonus is next year though. Have you given any thought to going to Paris beforehand?

Thanks Scratch42!

I've checked another week off of my countdown & am bumping us up. I hate to see us sink too low on the list! We're die-hard repo cruisers dang it! We DESERVE to be on the top of the list! :rotfl2:

I'm counting down the minutes until my weekend starts. A fashion tip: I ventured to my only Disney Store this week and picked up a GREAT new outfit that was just being placed on the racks. It's a new tropical skirt, tank and shirt that is just adorable! There's a size for everyone in the family. It's a deep red color hawaiian shirt with tan tropical flowers and leaves. There's a nice Mickey and Minnie scene on the back of the shirt & on the tank and skirt bottom too. I highly recommend this cute outfit for families looking for a nice "matching" picture on our cruise. It's a bit early, but who isn't thinking about cruise clothes already?!!! Anyways, you heard it here first. This will be a great fashion statement for any stylish cruiser going to Barcelona!

Speaking of, I should really revamp my pirate attire...it's been done a few times now & I need to step it up a bit. Anybody else planning on going all-out on Pirates IN the Mediterranean night?!

Happy weekend countdown to all!

Erica J.
Barcelona or BUST!

If I bought matching outfits now, my kids will have outgrown them by 2007! I would be hoping that a size smaller for me would be just right by then :lmao:

I've been reading about Barcelona, several different books to get different points of view. Things that all the authors seem to agree on: August is not the best time to go. The locals leave on vacation and lots of businesses and eateries close. It's a very crowded time of year. Other things I have learned: my initial plan of leaving here the Tuesday before the cruise and arriving in Barcelona on Wednesday will have me arriving on a national holiday...Assumption Day, August 15. Two or three days will be enough to get a taste of what Barcelona is like, but we will have to make some choices about activities. Get a really really big image card for the camera. DK's Top 10 Barcelona book has some really good pictures of the sights. Not really good information, but in conjunction with the maps and info in Lonely Planet's Spain, you can make some intelligent decisions on what to see. OK, back to reading....

LOL

Not buying any clothes until I lose a few pounds! And if I do that, then all those that I bought for our very first cruise will fit once again! :lmao: :lmao: Then I'll have more money for souvies! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now If I can only stop throwing out my back! :teeth:

But since we will be near a Disney Store later today, will have to check it out!

Thanks!

I was listening to my Millennium Celebration CD today and realized 2 things:

  1. I REALLY miss the Tapestry of Nations
  2. I need a WDW fix soon!!!!!!

We were supposed to go in August but not sure if it will happen...I may have to wait until Dec...

I'm about to start twitching...this is bad!

Finally starting to feel better - and to breathe -- Dr. said recovery is taking longer since my allergies - kicked in the asthma too ! -- Down to 3 breathing treatments & 20 mgs of steriods.

Hopefully by Weds I'll get everythig updated... though if we do a magnet pass - I vote for one of the Magic going accros the Atlantic :goodvibes

Dee - when are you going to WDW in August -- lots of fools are going to be down there that month. :thumbsup2

DisneyElf, I hope you feel better soon! I'm giving my son Claritin now because his cold is combining with his allergies and he's edging pretty close to needing his Albuterol, which he has not used in 2 years. I'd like to keep it this way!

We were thinking end of August. When are the fools coming? This may tip the balance for me...

Any living Washingtonians around? I'll probably be on business trips (that's what I call covering medical conferences) between May 21 and June 6 (my b-day). So can we please not schedule RFC for that time frame??? Pretty please??

Dee --

There will be a lot of fools on hand - from 8/28 to 9/6 -- with a dinner meet planned for 9/1/06 - at Whispering Canyon (most of us are on the dining plan :goodvibes ) about 20 so far --

Let Janet - Scratch42 know if you want to come.

Ooohhh I'm jealous, it sounds like fun!! The free dining is so great, but we are saving every penny (we have the coin jar going :thumbsup2) for this repo cruise. I am sure it will be worth it next year. The kids and I have been missing our Disney fix. Looks like it is about time to get annual passes again, just waiting on our tax refund. :cool1:

We are using an empty 5gal water jug and DH made a huge DCL sticker on the front that says cruise fund..... it is amazing how much you can save by just throwing extra change in there! We also put in paper $ every now and then and it's great!!! WE will also be in WDW this aug from 13-23, so come on Fools join in!!!! Anyone else comin'??
