Bringing food to the room (not room service)

DH wasn't feeling well one evening and didn't come to the MDR for dinner. Our awesome waiter had his dinner sent to the room for him.

There were trays on the Magic in January of 2016. I hope they are still there, it would be difficult to carry a beverage and silverware without a tray, even if you are eating in the restaurant!

Silverware is on the table in Cabanas. You can set your plate down to fill your glass, and carry your plate in one hand and your beverage in the other. Or just set your plate on the table and get your drink from the drink station.

OK. We usually take ours to the tables on the far edges of the pools where there is no silverware. Also my husband usually brings me breakfast in bed on a tray!

We would bring food back from Cabanas on a plate, covered with a second plate. You can actually stack another plate on top if needed.

This is exactly what the CM at cabanas suggested I do and it worked very well. We were on the dream this past November. I asked for a tray and was told they don't have them. CM was very helpful and it seemed like it was a pretty common request for someone to bring food back to the room.

We've gone back and forth on this. At first we had the late seating (we booked late), but it was perfect since DD always napped around 4p. However, over the last few weeks, she has stopped napping and is just going to bed earlier. In the meantime, we were moved to the earlier dining time and that should work, but I'm afraid that DD will end up napping since we will be so busy during the day. I really want to make sure she gets a decent dinner (veggies, etc) and not just the fast service food on the pool deck and I've learned that Cabanas isn't open every night.

Last year I missed our anniversary dinner in the MDR. DH went to dinner with our family while I stayed in the room with DD. Mickey came to our table and we had a special cake delivered. I hope we make most of the dinners this year :)
I got salad and fresh fruit from the fast food on deck and I think either a veggie wrap or a panini. We had late dinner and I was trying to snack healthier in late afternoon.

I hope this is a non-issue for you next cruise, but there are better options if necessary. :)

I bring things back from the buffet for snacking. For example. some cheese and fruit on a plate to put in the fridge for later, some milk and cereal to eat in room if I know we'll be in a hurry the next morning. DH isn't big on breakfast, so I may also bring him back some chocolate milk to have in the room. It's never been an issue.

(And they may not allow that right from the buffet lines for the same reason they don't let you fill your personal cup directly from the soda machines.)
I have a question regarding this. Are you talking about the soda machines located on deck 11 that are available for free? I guess I had it in my head that we would be taking our refillable mugs from WDW and using these to fill our mugs with soda. Is this not okay to do?

It's perfectly fine to use your refillable mugs. What is not fine, is to fill your mug straight from the machine. You must use a paper cup that is provided to fill your mug. That way, there is no chance that the lip of your mug touches the spout on the machine.

Unless you are in concierge, room service breakfast is limited to a continental breakfast....cereal, pastries and breads, fruit juices.

I really really wish Disney would get in line with other cruiselines (Princess, HAL and Carnival), all of whom offered hot entrees on their regular room service breakfast menus.

That's how we did it last time -- an upside down plate over the one plate and then stacked our desserts on top of that. Like I said earlier, pack a drink carrier from a fast food place (usually cardboard) and it makes drink carrying from the drink station so much easier -- especially if you are going all the way back to your room. If you are taking coffee and juice, no burned hands LOL
