Bringing food to the room (not room service)

I've never had any issues taking food back to my cabin from Cabanas or the MDR. There have been a few times where I wasn't feeling well and had my SO grab food from the MDR for me (bfast/lunch/dinner). Once we had a server who insisted on helping us carry dinner back to our cabin, which was very kind. I've also been given goodies to take back to the cabin after Palo brunch, which was especially awesome.

So trays and domes are available, but you might have to ask.

If you're talking about Cabanas, trays are sitting out, most people put their plate on a tray and slide that along the buffet line. So it's easy to fill your tray and then walk to your room instead of to a table. The dome you'll probably have to ask for, I haven't seen those sitting out but I would guess they are available.

If there are trays, then maybe the domes aren't really necessary.

Depends what you're getting - they would be helpful for stacking, and they'll keep things warm if you have a long way to walk. In the MDR the servers bring your food out with them, remove them before serving and then usually put one over your plate on the table if they notice you are gone for awhile (like running a kid to the club or the powder room). So I'm sure they would put them on any to go plates as well.

Your 2 year old might surprise you with a new schedule or by sleeping in the dining room, but if not you'll have plenty of options, you will not go hungry! :)

Unless you are in concierge, room service breakfast is limited to a continental breakfast....cereal, pastries and breads, fruit juices.

On our last cruise, one night we had just ordered dessert after dinner at the MDR, DS suddenly decided he was really tired and wanted to go back to the cabin right away. Our servers gave me the desserts on covered plates to take back (pretty sure the covers were flat on top, sleepy DS was no help and I carried both plates one stacked on top of the other)...

Those became the BEST breakfast the next morning, so much better than the room service pastries!

we call room service and just let them know that we have left dishes in the hallway.

That's a great idea. I never thought to call them and let them know there are dishes outside the stateroom.

You can just leave the dishes in your room. Your room host will clear them up without prompting.

Leaving dishes in the passageway, is troublesome for the various housekeeping carts/stroller/scooters that need to get down the passageway.

On the Magic there have always been trays in Cabanas. DH generally goes up every morning and grabs some cereals, pastries, and milk and juice to bring back to the
When were you last on the Magic? We were just on her in May, and there were no trays in Cabanas. Just large plates.

I've totally missed trays in Cabanas. I don't remember ever seeing them, and I don't remember seeing anyone else using one. I've only ever seen plates and bowls sitting out.

The trays have gone away. Just like most other cruise lines. The thought is that it actually cuts down on the food waste, if you have to carry multiple plates instead of stacking them on a tray.

We have DCL #2 in just a few days! We cruised last year when our daughter was 1 y/o and we missed every breakfast and a few dinners due to her sleep/nap schedule and other things.

1. I've read we can bring food from Cabanas back to our room for breakfast. Is this discouraged by the crew? Do I need to bring some type of tupperware to transport the food?

2. I'm worried our daughter will be sleeping during our dinner time. If my husband goes to dinner, can he bring my dinner back with him?

Any other suggestions are appreciated :)

As others have said you can certainly bring food back to your room. However, have you considered changing your dinner seating? Or you can plan nursery time for her during dinner and she can sleep there. It just seems a shame to miss so many meals together and miss out on the MDRs.

Enjoy your cruise!

As of June the Wonder still had trays in Beach Blanket but I bet they will be gone after dry dock when Beach Blanket transitions to Cabanas. Its a bummer b/c twice we used the trays to bring our breakfast to the Walt Disney theater for a matinee show/presentation.

Well, that's changed, also. No "meal-type" foods are allowed in the Walt Disney Theater now. Only snack foods.

We've gone back and forth on this. At first we had the late seating (we booked late), but it was perfect since DD always napped around 4p. However, over the last few weeks, she has stopped napping and is just going to bed earlier. In the meantime, we were moved to the earlier dining time and that should work, but I'm afraid that DD will end up napping since we will be so busy during the day. I really want to make sure she gets a decent dinner (veggies, etc) and not just the fast service food on the pool deck and I've learned that Cabanas isn't open every night.

Last year I missed our anniversary dinner in the MDR. DH went to dinner with our family while I stayed in the room with DD. Mickey came to our table and we had a special cake delivered. I hope we make most of the dinners this year :)

Thats a bummer. Our favorite sea day morning was spent watching Finding Dory while eating our Cabanas haul of fruit loops and cinnamon rolls, breakfast of champions!!

I can see how this might be upsetting to some people, but it does make sense. I can imagine not allowing meal-type foods cuts down on messes in the theatres, which means they'd take less time to clean in between shows.
