We have DCL #2 in just a few days! We cruised last year when our daughter was 1 y/o and we missed every breakfast and a few dinners due to her sleep/nap schedule and other things.

1. I've read we can bring food from Cabanas back to our room for breakfast. Is this discouraged by the crew? Do I need to bring some type of tupperware to transport the food?

2. I'm worried our daughter will be sleeping during our dinner time. If my husband goes to dinner, can he bring my dinner back with him?

Any other suggestions are appreciated :)

Yes, you are welcome to bring food to your room. People bring things from Cabanas all the time.

I've never asked for food from the MDR, but I have heard reports from others that it is possible. You could always bring things from pool deck places though.

I've brought food back from Cabanas for breakfast multiple times. I just carry the plate(s) back.

One night, my DD was tired and wasn't doing well sitting at dinner. She went back to the room to rest and our servers gave me a plate of food to take to her. They put one of the metal lids over it like how it comes from room service.

You can certainly bring food back from Cabanas to your room. The crew would probably assist you in getting whatever silverware, etc. that you need. They may look at you a little oddly if you start filling up Tupperware bowls though! (And they may not allow that right from the buffet lines for the same reason they don't let you fill your personal cup directly from the soda machines.)

As far as dinner, most servers try to be very accommodating, knowing kids can be on all different schedules. I'm sure if your husband explained the situation when he showed up for dinner, the service team would make sure that your dinner was given to your husband when he was finished with his meal so he could bring it back for you.

LOL to standing in the buffet line filling my tupperware! :rotfl2:
I could see how funny this would look and great point about it being like the cups at the drink station. I guess I was thinking that the food had to be covered to leave the dinning area, but it sounds like a regular plate will work.

We didn't try the breakfast room service last time and I wish we would have. We had excursions planned on all of our cruise days last year so by the time we were up and ready it was time to rush off the boat. We are doing 2 stay on the ship days this time so I hope it's more relaxing :) Although for this cruise, I'll be 21w pregnant so I'm more concerned with the food this time lol.

When my son was younger he's sleep through dinner every night in the MDR. Our servers put 2 chairs together to make a bed and a napkin over his eyes. It was a running joke all cruise long. If you have a solid sleeper just bring her along.

We have done both. We have visited the MDR's during lunch and ordered lunch to go -- which they insisted on delivering to our room. We have gone up to Cabanas for both breakfast and lunch and brought food back to the room when we wanted to enjoy it on our verandah. We've never had any problems or trouble. If we do it for breakfast on a port day, we let our room steward know we left the dishes in the room. Otherwise, when we are done, we call room service and just let them know that we have left dishes in the hallway. If you think of it, pack a drink carrier that you get at fast food joints to carry your drinks back to the room.

You should let your daughter sleep in your room and you and your husband can have a nice dinner in the MDR.

That's a great idea. I never thought to call them and let them know there are dishes outside the stateroom.

In the MDR the waitstaff will put your food on a plate and cover it with a topper like you would get from room service to keep it warm.
Cabanas is as efficient if you let them know what you need. I have actually seen CM's carrying food back to the cabin for guests several times.

No need to worry about it and definitely do not need to pack serving dishes to carry food back and forth.
Have a great cruise!

Do they have those metal (or other) covers at Cabanas to take food back with you? I was thinking if you were taking food for yourself and another plate for your child or spouse that you could stack them if they had the covers. I think earlier someone said there are no trays. Could a person bring their own tray for this use or would people look at you funny?

If I recall correctly, the toppers are domed, so it might be hard to carry them stacked. I would ask the folks at Cabanas to borrow a tray and see if they offer to carry it for you. :) If not, they can let you borrow a tray.

Unless you are in concierge, room service breakfast is limited to a continental breakfast....cereal, pastries and breads, fruit juices.

On the Magic there have always been trays in Cabanas. DH generally goes up every morning and grabs some cereals, pastries, and milk and juice to bring back to the room so we can all have first breakfast before we wake up enough to go have second breakfast. He just puts them on a tray and carries it down.
