Bringing food into the parks?

I agree, its just that the "easiest" place to grab a table usually seems to be within a CS restaurant. And I really don't want to see the ability to bring in food taken away because too many guests complain about picnic lunches inside Cosmic Rays. I suggest you make some suggestions on good places to eat without taking a table from CS since this sounds like people who won't be familiar with good spots. I would, but we haven't found any.

A thread was started for picnic recommendations

When did that become a rule?

As long as I've been going it's been a rule. You cannot take fixings but you can take assembled sandwiches. No taking in a package of turkey, a package of cheese and a loaf of bread, but you can take in the sandwich.

This is flat out not true. We always assemble our sandwiches at time of eating. (Hate soggy bread)

We also bring stuff to make " Lunchables" a block of cheese, some crackers, etc. We get a plastic knife from CS locations.

Yes, it is true.

Possibly a misunderstanding here. The concern is with glass jars, which are prohibited. Relish, Mustard, Ketchup, Mayo in glass jars will not be allowed. Find these items in plastic containers, or start collecting packets from wherever you can get them.

No, no misunderstanding, but possibly a different policy for a different PARK, we do DL not WDW, forgive me for assuming the policy would be the same.

It isn't.

We take our own sandwiches and "fixins" all the time......

At DLR you are directed to lockers outside the park even if you take your fixings in plastic containers. I've seen it happen many times, but I've been able to walk in with a Subway bag in a backpack without issue.

Again, I go to DLR so perhaps the WDW policy is different, but what I have stated is not false information, I'm not lying or making it up. :thumbsup2

At WDW there is no such rule. The OP was talking about WDW, so yes, what you said was flat out untrue.

Did you read my response in full? I go to DisneyLAND, what I said is not untrue at DisneyLAND, I also said sorry for assuming the rules would be the same. There is no need to be rude, this is the budget board, it's not WDW specific, yes the OP said WDW but again "forgive me for assuming the policy would be the same". :confused3

You know what happens when you assume right?

My point was that after you saw several people chime in that you were incorrect you felt the need to quote everyone and continue to say that you were right. If it were me, I woulda posted

"Oh, my bad, I only know the DLR rules and didn't realize things were different in FL."

The board may not be WDW specific, but the OP specifically asked about WDW.

As for the board , technically it is under the WDW section of the DIS. DLR has its own set of forums and there is the community board for general topics. Fortunately, the Budget Board is not strict about this, but other boards in this area of the DIS do enforce stronger.

We have the soft sided cooler backpack made by Igloo.

It is large enough for the 5 of us for snacks, lunch, and waters.

http://www.target.com/p/igloo-maxco...3465885#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=igloo+cooler

This is what we use as well. We are a family of 5 and bring lunch and snacks with us. The kids each carry their own drink/water bottle in their own backpacks (along with their poncho) to save some room. I can usually fit a Pringles can, 2 bottles of Powerade/Gatorade OR a refillable water bottle, 5 sandwiches, fruit and snacks in there easily.

Food is allowed but there are restrictions. As stated no glass unless it's baby food. You can take in sandwiches but you can't take in the fixings to make sandwiches, you can take a small soft sided cooler but nothing big and nothing with wheels. You can take snacks, drinks, we always take our own bottles of water with us, if we run out we refill at CS restaurants (after asking) or we go to First Aid and refill there (this is in DLR not WDW). We've never had any problems.

Wonder why disneyland doesn't want sandwich fixing brought in, but sandwich already made is ok?

Don't listen to other being grumpy and never say your sorry on disboard it's in one of the top 10 rules ;)

You're forgiven. There's some different policies at individual Disney parks. You would make yourself better understood on WDW Boards by saying, "My personal experience at DLR is... "
:littleangel:

Disneyland rules are different - there they have a picnic area out side the park and you can't bring food in.

We are a WDW family, spending at least 2-6 weeks there every year. However, we have been to Disneyland twice. In 2010 and 2012. We spent six days the first trip and five the second. EVERY single time we entered the parks, we brought food in, in two backpacks. They were searched at the bag check and no one ever said that we couldn't bring food in.

I have been all over the DL site-can you tell me where this rule is posted please?

One more point: Just remember no plastic straws are allowed in Animal Kingdom, because of the animals. That includes those little straws attached to the side of juice boxes. Last year, I saw the family in front of me upset when the bag check security CM told them they could have the juice boxes, but the straws had to be pulled off and thrown away. They were upset saying that without the straws there was no way to drink them. The CM explained that no plastic straws of any kind were allowed inside Animal Kingdom for the safety of the animals. Even with the family promising to throw them away after drinking the juice, those little straws were confiscated at bag check.

My friend said her kids used to squeeze the juice boxes and make a mess so she just squeezed them into a sippy cup before they had the chance. If they take the straws, just go to a snack counter and ask for a couple cups. You can dump the juice in them to drink.

My kid never made a mess be cause he is a perfect child so I wouldn't know. :D

Um clearly you didn't understand what I posted, I've said it twice, "forgive me for assuming that the rules were the same." Just because I don't phrase my apology the way you want it to be phrased doesn't mean I was in the wrong. I explained why I said what I said, you don't need to keep going with this. The DL portion of the boards does not have a Budget Board, which is why I read this section, and why would they? It would be redundant. And this topic is budget related so I'm not sure what your point regarding the community board would even be. :confused3

No idea but it is what it is. lol I've wondered that myself but don't question it. On budget trips we've taken in sandwiches, from Subway and ones I have made in the hotel room. Thanks :)

It isn't posted. What is posted is that they do not allow outside food or drink, however that is not enforced. I'm posting based on my experience, they allow sandwiches premade, they allow water bottles, soda in bottles (not glass but I've never tried cans), they allow snacks. I have a friend who was there last weekend, she took in her own water bottles, her own snacks. I post on the DL boards regularly, people ask this question all the time and it is regularly reported that it is still the policy. I've seen people with coolers with sandwich fixings told to get a locker at the security checkpoint.

So question, is it posted on the WDW site that you can take in food? Just curious based on the fact that I'm getting slammed here because I'm giving info on DL with the assumption that it would be the same at WDW. Clearly it isn't. lol :)

Sorry I still am not seeing what you are saying.

I do see "Coolers larger than 6-pack sized are not permitted into the theme parks." But nothing that says no outside food.

I am from SoCal and took in food all the time. Never a cooler that wasn't allowed, but certainly sandwich stuff and a full lunch. I can't remember if the meat was already in the bread or not though as I typically do premake sandwiches.

Maybe they took it down because they do allow outside food now? I don't look at the website for that type of stuff, last time I looked (which was probably 8 years ago now) it said no outside food or drink, but from reading these boards I found out you could take in food and drinks. lol

How long ago was that? All I know is it's regularly reported that fixings are not allowed and I saw a family turned away because they had fixings, they were told they could make the sandwiches and take them in or they could go get a locker and then come back and picnic. I was right behind them so I was able to clearly hear what was said. :) ETA the fixings were not in glass, they were in small plastic containers, I could see one was mustard and they had sliced onions and pickles in Ziploc baggies, a loaf of bread, some type of lunchmeat and some sliced cheese. It was in a small cooler, slightly larger than a 6 pack size, the bread and some chips were in a separate bag, they security CM just asked them to use a locker or go to the picnic area and make the sandwiches before entering the park. I don't know what they ended up doing but they walked towards the lockers.

I really don't understand the 3rd degree (and attitude) I'm getting here, if you don't believe what I'm saying just go to the DL section of the boards and ask the same question, see the answers. lol

I am not arguing or giving the third degree...just my opinion here. But that seems like a really bad policy. What is the difference if I take in a premade sandwich and the stuff to make a sandwich in a bag? I don't like soggy sandwiches so I have one of the cooler backpacks that was posted up thread. We take it hiking and biking or just out for the day. I pack up all the sandwich components and put the mayo/mustard/ketchup/ranch/whatever in small containers. I would have been VERY upset if I was the guest you were behind because the rule makes no sense. And I think at that point I would have become "one of those people" that went to guest services to complain about it. And I am rarely "one of THOSE people" because I have worked with the public my whole life.

Hi pixie. Alas I've seen the wrong answer posted on the dlr boards. The right answer is that they allow food. Or that they do not not allow it.

Coolers and lunch boxes are subject to inspection but are allowed at dlr. And people with dietary or religious food issues can be permitted to have an exception to the 6 pack cooler rule. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/

The "fixings" thing might happen but it's not a written rule. Outside food has been allowed at dlr since our first trip in 2005.

At wdw: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/parks/outside-food-and-drink/

Budget board is the Wild West because last time I checked it hasn't had a moderator (that is present on the boards) in a long long time.

Can we bring thermos containers into WDW parks? I'm thinking about this option for our December trip. My older son recently became a pescatarian, and the rest of our family sort of followed suit (because when I cook it's just easier to cook the same thing for everyone). The counter service places offer limited attractive sounding veggie/fish options. (The kids don't like salads.) So I'm thinking of making stuff like chowder or veggie soup in our unit (we'll have a full kitchen) and bringing that in thermos in lieu of or to supplement our counter service purchases. I figured I can store them in one of the rental lockers inside the parks. Has anyone tried this before?
