Bringing a Nebulizer

Hi everyone!

Has anyone brought a nebulizer on a plane? Where there any issues with security/TSA? I plan on packing the nebulizer in our carry-on, even though it is cumbersome. I don't want to spend $200 on a portable nebulizer just for the week. My DD (4) get her meds predominately through the nebulizer every day. The meds are liquid, but I plan on bringing the box with the prescription label so that should be OK. Any advice?

Not done it myself, but by law the airline must allow you to take medical supplies and equipment aboard. It also shouldn't count towards your baggage allowance.

I think there was a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it. Hopefully someone else will be able to provide a link.

We often flew with our regular sizeed neb (shoebox sized) before we got the "itsy bitsy" one (camera case size).

We had to take it out like we did a laptop, but it was no problem. Our meds are in single dose ampuals, andthey were not a problem either.

We packed our Neb in a small rolling duffle so we didn't have to carry it on a shoulder strap.

my son has flown several times with his plug in nebulizer sometimes they don't know what it is when its xrayed so they make me open the bag and they see it and ask me what it is then let me go.other times it has gone threw just fine and I don't get stopped.thing year will be the first time traveling with the portable (smaller) nebulizer.I would definately carry it in your carry on just incase your luggage gets lost.I always carry my sons medicine and machine in my carry on.

We have a big nebulizer that fits in a backpack that we take. We haven't had a problem flying with it. It does not count as one of your 2 carry ons--so technically when I flew by myself I had 3 carry ons. When I was questioned at the gate about it I told them it was medical equipment and offered to open it and show them but they didn't bother. I was fully willing to open it. The backpack had the nebulizer, the bits and pieces and all of my meds plus my night splint in it.

Security didn't have a problem with any of it either. I was actually expecting to have to take it out for inspection but there were not problems. It has been through airport security several times since 9/11 with no issues. Certainly I travel with all meds--especially liquids-- in the original labled bottles. I can't remember, I think I had the liquids for the nebulizer in a ziplock the last time so I could pull them out.
