Bringing a Keurig

Just a reminder that the DIS does not allow any exchanges that require the participants to pay anything, all DISBoard exchanges must be free. So someone would need to buy or donate a Keurig machine before starting an exchange. Would that warrant the risk of losing the machine or having it damaged? I really think a rental type system, if one were available, would be the best way to go. Maybe a company that already delivers to resorts, like Owners Locker would be willing to assume the risk, but then again, how much would the average Keurig user be willing to pay per night for renting a machine?

It really seems the most economical way would be to simply buy your own machine and get an Owners Locker or carry it with you when you travel.

Has anyone ever brought a Keurig while flying to WDW? Everyone in my family likes to drink a different variety of coffee or tea and we love our Keurig. I know they make a smaller version but it still seems too heavy to bring through the airport. I don't want to rent Owner's Locker because that's the only difficult item that we would like to bring on our trips. Anyone have experience with this? I wish that DVC would start supplying them!

When we were at BWV last year My brother who works for Keurig shipped a single cup machine down to us .
We decided to bring it Home with us to Ireland and $150 worth of k cups .
No problem, when we get home I will buy a converter for our electricity.
Guess what the converter was going to cost more than the machine and weigh 20pound weight.
I had to invent my own machine to use up the k cups .

The Keurig website indicates that it only weighs 8.75 pounds empty. At that weight, if I was going to take one, I think I would just pack it in a carry-on between soft stuff.

We have a B60 at home and make about 10-20 cups per week. My first B60 died before an entire year passed, so Keurig replaced it for free. I don't think the standard Keurig machines would survive the kind of use they might get in a DVC villa. In addition, we had to clean ours frequently due to lime-scale build up. Who knows what that water at Disney would do to the machine!

I love my Keurig at home, but at WDW I brew the coffee provided by the resort and have an occasional Starbucks instant(it really is pretty good). But my case is different as I don't have multiple coffee/tea drinkers all wanting various flavors in my family.

Not to twist your arm on the Owner's Locker, but you mention that the Keuring would be the only difficult thing you need to store. You know you can store non-difficult things like various supplies and clothing that will really lighten your luggage load. It really makes packing much easier and you don't have to schlep all your stuff through the airport/car/bus/taxi/resort. Plus you could keep the small Keurig there.

I'm so glad you posted that. We are considering an Owners Locker and though I know the value of it, I'm trying to really think about what I would put in it. I was thinking a George Foreman grill, coffee filters, shampoos, etc. Would you mind sharing what you suggest keeping in yours? Would some pajamas, flip flops make sense? I don't want to get one if it really doesn't make sense for us, but I think it will in the long run. Thanks!

So funny this was posted. Was totally thinking about doing this when we were at SSR and AKL for marathon week.

I need my iced mocha latte that I use my K to make. Ended up buying the Starbucks mocha Via made with milk and poured over ice. Not perfect but worked well enough for me to be civil for the day.

If I had a small machine, I would definitely bring it in my checked luggage.

Actually, I was only kidding about the dues for keureg comment. For those environmentalist (and the penny pinchers) there is a way to make a great single cup of coffee from a keureg without the waste. It's called the ekobrew.

It works great from what I'm told. I have one on order. As much as I like the Green mountain fair trade columbian, I'm a DD man, and their K-cups are too expensive. This may do the trick for me! As much as I would LOVE a keureg on vacation, It's not that big a deal to go without it. I'm not taking one on a plane or renting an owner's locker.

a disney friend i met on fb and his wife took a mini over xmas with them, and several boxes of coffee. at te end of their trip we came home to blt to find their maker in our room as a gift! they had no room for it nor the many boxes of kcups in their suitcases to take home. i was plesantly surprised, dh even more so since hes the coffee/tea drinker. we managed to cram it all in our suitcases- i have no idea how, but it made it home safe and sound from disney to maine, then the drive from maine to ns.

Not to hijack the topic of the Keuring but...since you asked We have a few clothes, bathroom & hair stuff(think curling iron), OTC meds, various odds & ends. Our OL is such that if we suddenly found ourselves at WDW with no preparation whatsovever, we'd basically have everything we needed for a couple of days.

When you combine the convenience of the OL with the amenities of the DVC villas(kitchen, washer/dryer) you don't have to haul much stuff in your luggage.
Let's face it, air travel is a hassle, and anything you can do to lighten the load is in your favor.

One other thing about OL: It's kinda like when you get your Christmas ornaments out of the attic to decorate the tree. You open the box and say "Oh, I forgot we had that in there!" I especially feel that way when I find a couple of beers left from our previous trip

DH and I drink way to many cups of coffee every morning to use the Keureg single serves, we use a reusable filter. Not the same one you have, but it works! It's a little bit work, cleaning it out, etc., but we don't mind and it's not only way cheaper to use a reuseable filter but environmentally friendly.
And, yes, we have a Keurig in our OL.

Just an update...I just bought a Mini Keurig Plus on sale and used a whole bunch of coupons at Kohl's. I also received $20 in Kohl's bucks to use in the future! In the end it was about half price. So I guess I will be bringing it in my DVC bag as a carryon! It really isn't heavy at all.

Thanks Micca! On our trip in May we are getting two studios because my two sons are bringing a couple of friends. I am picturing the four of them standing in the Beach Club hallway with their empty coffee cups waiting for a cup of Kona! The maker itself is a lot smaller than our original one and mine is a cute red color. I planned on saving the complimentary K cups for the trip but I had to try some of the great flavors inside...I have no will power LOL!

Not sure how you feel about Starbucks coffee, but you can now get several varieties of their stuff in K-cups. There were 3-4 different Starbucks varieties at our grocery store (Kroger), and I just discovered the Caffe Verona last weekend at Costco They also have the Starbucks k-cups at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but they were more expensive (even with a coupon). When I first got my Keurig I found several things I liked (just plain coffee-no flavors)but when the Starbucks cups came along, I got hooked.
