Do you think it is wrong to bring in your own movie snacks? Things like water bottles or candy?

It's going to cost us $50 to just get into the movie with matinee pricing! I don't know if I have it in me to spend another $50 at the candy counter.

Wow, how many of you are going? Our matinee prices are typically $5-7. I always take king size candy bars in my purse but we still buy the biggest popcorn and a soda (both come with a free refill). Have fun, guess you better for that amount of money, lol.

No kidding, it's close to $60 for three of us to see a movie at Imax. And once you've Imax'd it's hard to go back. The new theater here has unbelievable snack prices too. DD buys a water sometimes, but usually we eat lunch etc before we go. They must clean up though, because everyone around us is loaded up with snacks.

I don't bring snacks. I can go 2 hours without eating.
I do sneak in a Coke Zero, though, because our local theaters all serve Pepsi, which I find repulsive.

:thumbsup2Thanks for that reminder ours does vile Pepsi as well.
There are 5 of us going( family of 6 one is working today thankfully!:rotfl2:)

I will admit to sneaking in a soda. Ours charges 6.50 for a large soda?! Lol. When we went to the Lego movie though I snuck in bags of grapes for the kids. They didn't need the junk food but it was mid afternoon and they both like a snack.

I don't like to eat during the movie, so I seldom buy snacks, but I started bringing in a bottle of water with me because I do sometimes get thirsty, and our regal cinema charges $7.50 for a smaller water bottle and $10.50 for one of those really big bottle water, and I noticed at the grocery the very same large bottle is 1.77

We do sometimes. We almost always do matinees to keep cost down and but snack prices are unreal. I also need diet/caffeine free drinks and sometimes want something besides water and they never have that. We sometimes do buy popcorn but never candy. Too easy to carry that in if we want it. We have pretty much started doing any movies in the late afternoon after having lunch and maybe before we have dinner out somewhere and then only take a snack for DS7.

We do have a vintage theater near our home that has 4.00 tickets and large popcorn for like 2.00 and candy is still a 1.00 and we always go way out and do it all when we go there. They only have one movie at a time but tend to do more family movies so we hit this one when we can.

I don't eat candy at the movies, but if I did, I might bring some with me. I have brought a bottle of water in my purse a few times. Generally though a coke and movie popcorn is something we want to buy. But at our theater, for a matinee my family of 4 adults can go for $33 including the tickets and the pop/popcorn.

I don't think it's wrong to bring your own snacks. We usually buy a popcorn/soda combo to share. That's expensive enough. I can't imagine also paying the $5 or whatever for a box of candy that you can get at the dollar store.

The theater I go to doesn't even bother policing for outside food/drink. I only see a movie 3 or 4 times a year, but I've walked in plenty of times with a Dunkin Donuts beverage in my hand and no one says a word. There's a Five Guys and a Chipotle next door, and people bring bags of food in from those places too. :lmao:

Of course, a 2D non-IMAX ticket is $14... IMAX 3D pops you up to $21 per ticket. Almost makes me glad that 3D gives me headaches.

It was many moons ago, but I used to work for a movie theater and the policy was as long as it was something we sold, there was no problem bringing in your own. The only real rules were no hot food, no glass and no alcohol (I realize that some serve alcohol now though). The concessions is where the theater makes their money though. Despite the astronomical tickets prices, the theater sees very little of that as most goes to the production companies.

We sneak in drinks but buy popcorn. Being generally a good Catholic girl I feel guilty, but I'd never go to a movie if I had to buy drinks along with paying for tickets and popcorn.

Us too. We'll buy a drink and popcorn to share 4 ways. We bring our own candy.

Not at all. We buy popcorn but bring a drink and whatever else we want.

If the movie theater has signs posted saying that no outside food or drink is allowed then yes, it is wrong. That said, it hasn't stopped us from doing it. We always buy popcorn at the theater, but we bring our Brita bottles from home and occasionally the kids will bring in candy.

Just an FYI...Movie theaters make most of their profit from the snack bar. The ticket price covers the theater's cost for the films with maybe 4-6% left for the theater.

I honestly could not tell you the last time we went to the movies... it might have been Poseiden Adventure back in 2005. I refuse to pay the ridiculous pricing, when I can just wait a few months and buy the movie for the same as it would be for two of us to just get in the theater. Then we can watch it at home whenever we want.

We usually bring our own. My kids don't drink soda, so I bring juice boxes for them. I don't like to drink during a movie because I hate having to get up to go to the bathroom. :rotfl2:

As for snacks, I usually bring a small bag of candy or some crackers for the kids. I hate waiting in another line and we don't need a huge box of candy.

The theater we usually go to is in the mall and they don't mind if you bring in food, at least I don't think they do, I never saw a sign. People walk in with dunkin
donuts coffee cups, bags of sandwiches from Panera, pizza slices from Sbarro, candy & soda from the newspaper stand, bags of food from McDonalds etc. Not sure if it's because it's in a mall, but due to that fact everyone seems to get food elsewhere and bring it in. So far, I have not seen anyone (cashier, managers walking around, ticket takers etc.) say anything to anyone.

We always bring our own candy if we want it. We don't do soda but bring bottles of water. If we want popcorn, that we buy from the theater.

Guilty I got a hamburger and bottle drink and just put that in my bag, I did not what popcorn for lunch
