Bring your own movie snacks?i

We don't. If your has a sign that says "no outside food and drink", yes, I think you're breaking the rules and they should be enforced. If they're not going to enforce them, don't have the rule.

How many people who willingly admit flaunting the rules here would be upset over "line jumpers" at WDW?

While we personally dont bring meals , I have brought a pack of M&M or such a time or two.

Our theaters offer free refills on large popcorn and sodas.

I almost *always bring several gallon size zip-lock bags in my purse and split the popcorn into the bags for the kids. I fill it up about half way each bag.

And we always bring our Disney soda cups, the first fill I get fruit punch, sprite or lemonade, pour it into the kids cups, and then get a fill of cherry coke for Dh & I.

One place that we go, has no problem just putting a scoop of pop-corn into each zip-loc for me, to save me the hassle of splitting it and coming back for refills.

In 3 years working....I turned away 1 person.....and he showed up carrying a Pizza Hut box that he has his and buddy were planning on eating in the movie. That was just a bit too much.....

.

When we saw Thor The Dark World last fall, the girls behind us sat down and took out an entire pumpkin pie and several forks!

Update. No signs at our theater. We brought in candy for kids, mini water bottles and a Diet coke for me. I bought a case of water and the candy and soda for $8 at Walmart before. In theater a small soda is $5.25 and a water bottle is $4. That is nuts. So yes I am a snack sneaker.

Oh and a sandwich bag full of Skinnypop popcorn( amazing stuff at only 39 calories a cup!)

Good for you! :thumbsup2

You just saved a ton of money. Now enjoy the show!

Do you think it is wrong to bring in your own movie snacks? Things like water bottles or candy?

It's going to cost us $50 to just get into the movie with matinee pricing! I don't know if I have it in me to spend another $50 at the candy counter.

It's only wrong if they have a policy against it.

I'm guilt too. I have brought in juice boxes, cans of soda, microwaved popcorn, candy all in a backpack and the workers never ask to look in my bag. But that was when the kids were young. Now when I go on a date with DH we get the popcorn soda combo with refills. When my DD's go with their friends they usually smuggle in a drink and candy. I think they buy popcorn though. DH and I only go to the movies about 2-3 times a year because it's just too expensive. We get Redbox often.

I believe in following the rules and I also believe in not being taken. At the movies it's a fine line.

The concession prices are outrageous and I don't like most of it so I have brought in a Starbucks iced coffee once upon a time. :stir:

We sometimes buy popcorn but I refuse to pay 5.00 for a bottle of water!

So I guess I am a rule breaker. I am not sure if there is a sign but it's a national chain so it does not take a rocket scientist to know that it's not allowed.

I don't judge or care either way.

Lisa

I agree with you Lisa. I always bring in my bottle of water. I'm not paying $5 for that small bottle of water. I don't even like the taste of the brand they sell.

I wonder if they give you free ice water in a cup? I've never thought to ask.

You can go to the theater and not snack.

At our theater, the large soda and popcorn have free refills. I know the popcorn is $8.25 but I forget what the soda costs.

You can also go to the pool and not swim or eat pb&j without the j. Some things go so well together and movies and popcorn/snacks are an excellent combo.

This is such a fascinating thread...I love the point you made. The "snack sneaking" issue is a classic example of situational ethics based on what someone perceives as being in their own best interest. For that matter, so is line jumping. I imagine the line jumpers would rationalize their behaviour by saying that if the waits were shorter (however short they needed to be to seem reasonable to them) they would wait their turn. Exact same argument as "if the prices were lower we wouldn't snack sneak".

For the record, I've never snack-sneaked although there are many occasions where we don't buy much because I think it's too expensive. It actually didn't even occur to me that no posted policy specifically prohibiting it actually meant it was permitted. That seems to be the consensus here though. Most restaurants don't have a posted sign about outside food or drink; I've never heard of anyone that would take the liberty though.

I think the difference in your comparison is that line jumping inconveniences other customers by causing them to wait longer, yet sneaking food into a theater does not inconvenience other customers. Technically, their sneakiness makes the snack lines shorter.

Every time my family has gone to the movies, we have purchased drinks and popcorn. When my kids were younger, we would sometimes buy candy too. There were a couple of times that I was at the store beforehand and I picked up some candy to bring with us.

Speeding is against the law, yet I would guess that the majority of people have knowingly gone at least a couple of miles over the speed limit at one time or another. Everybody draws a line for specific actions.

We so rarely go to the movies, but when we do, we take water bottles and candy.

We went to the movies yesterday and planned to go out to eat afterward. I knew I wouldn't last through the whole movie without getting shaky and feeling weird. I didn't need to eat much, but something. I ended up bringing a cheese stick and a little baggie of cereal. It was just enough to keep my blood sugar from taking a drop. My boys got popcorn and drinks and still ate dinner because they're teens with hollow legs. DH said he didn't want anything but ended up eating the popcorn crumbs out of the boys' bags.

The theater near us doesn't have any signs prohibiting outside food. It's become pretty routine that when we take DS and his friends to the theater, we drop them down by the supermarket. They buy cheap candy there and then go down the walkway to the theater. There's even a pizza place next to the theater and I've seen plenty of people carry in a pizza box.

I worked at a movie theater one summer during college and management wanted us to search bags as people were going into the theater... we all hated doing that and would only do it when certain managers were hovering (one manager was nice and thought the searching was ridiculous).

That said, I do occasionally bring food into the theater. I go to the dollar store and buy a big water and a box of candy if I want something to eat. (Or a Starbucks frap...) I don't like movie theater popcorn (I like the skinnypop popcorn though) and candy/water at the movies is far too expensive. I don't go to the movies often, though.

I never thought of sneaking anything. It would cost me nearly about $50 for 2 hot dogs, 1 single slice pizza, 1 large popcorn, 1 M&M and 3 regular size pop. The food cost more that our Matinee tickets. I think I'm going to start bringing our pop and candy.

DH and I usually just bring candy if we want it. It's a treat for us to go to the movies alone so we will get popcorn. I just love it! Sometimes we indulge and get some spirits!
