Brief SSR room report

So we just returned from a week in an SSR studio, which was a bit worse for wear. I thought I would just report on what we found -- nothing impacting our trip, but enough that it was getting a bit disappointing.

We were in the Springs, 3132, which is a first floor room right across from the model preview building, looking toward the road. So that was a little bit of a bummer - we requested 1st floor & Springs and got both of those which was great - but we never used the patio at all since it was in view of the road. Great location for us other than that though.

So we check in late Saturday night, and first I get a soaking wet foot when standing by the fridge. The carpet near the front of the fridge was all wet. Called Maintenance, they came and put down some towels to soak it up. Due to a language barrier, I didn't really understand what the next step was going to be, I thought maybe they would replace the fridge. But it actually dried up in a day and didn't leak any more after that.

The next day, the remote stops working and when we opened it (we have extra batteries), the inside was all corroded so that was the end of that remote!

That day, I also realized that the fridge didn't have any shelf holder things on the door -- so nothing could be put on the door because there was nothing to hold it in. Don't you wonder how these things get broken in the first place?

A few days after that, I find wood pieces on the floor while closing the sofa bed. Apparently the wood in the bed frame was breaking - you could see that some of the wood was poking out inside the bed and ripping the fabric that covers the frame. So everytime we opened and shut it, some little wood pieces came out. And that bed was not comfortable - I slept in it one night. The kids survived it though.

Lastly, sometime in the middle of the week, DH decided to use the coffee maker (we had been using our mini Keurig) and it didn't work either!

We definitely felt that we got a less than stellar room. You'll be glad to know that I reported everything to the front desk before we left the resort so hopefully the next person won't have those issues!

The room was clean, mousekeeping came when they were supposed to although didn't replenish our plates/bowls and we had to call for more. They came quickly for the fridge issue and we also called them for some of those foam mattress pads and they brought those right away too.

Everything else was fine - I know this sounds all negative, but there was much more good than bad. I missed having the washer/dryer and used the SSR laundry. That was fine except for the people in there using it for free that weren't DVC members. I don't know how that is supposed to work there. The guy said the front desk told him that it was a pay laundry and how much it would be, but obviously that laundry room near the pool doesn't take coins. So I didn't get that - I only cared I suppose because they got there before me and I had to wait!

So how do you know they weren't SSR guests? I'm quite sure guests don't wear signs saying if they are staying there or not.

Oh - I didn't say not SSR guests, I said not DVC owners. That came up in what they said to me. I am under the impression that laundry is only free in the DVC resorts for owners or others staying on points.

So sorry you had these issues. What a bummer! :sad1: I have never had this kind of problem at SSR, and I am glad you reported everything. :thumbsup2. There is no excuse for the issues you found.

The laundry is free for anyone staying at SSR, whether they are DVC, on points or paying cash to Disney.

You should have to use your resort key to get in the door.

Thanks for the great report (to both us and the front desk)! :thumbsup2

Many of these issues seem to be quickly identifiable, and I wish management would initiate a room inspection (even if it it only once per week) of each room with a check off list. Maybe it's dumb to have a supervisor count bowls and plates, turn on/off the TV, and run the water in all the sinks/showers briefly to ensure things are in good repair, but I'd be willing to pay extra in dues at my home resorts for this.

Well thanks - I didn't know that. I thought I read people say otherwise here and that seemed supported by what that family was told at the front desk. I'm not very (ha - at all) familiar with the laundry rooms! :rotfl: And I'm really hoping that I don't have to get any more familiar with them either! That's the first long trip we have had in a studio. Before we have only used the studio for 2 nights or so. But Easter is SO points-pricey!

I know, having that W/D in the room really spoils you.

I forgot one thing I wanted to mention. We had a waitlist in the middle of our trip that came through a while ago. Because of that and the new reservation system, we actually had a reservation that was segmented into 3 parts, I guess. There was no dining plan stuff involved with this, it was strictly due to the waitlist. Because of that we had to go get new room cards 2x during our trip, at the start of the waitlisted days and also towards the end for our last 2 original days. I had not heard anyone mention this other than in conjunction with the DDP so I was surprised.

I think that Studios take the most beatings in any resort, at least that's my opinion! I've had better luck with the 2 bedrooms at OKW, SSR & BWV! As you said, not a stellar room but you didn't let it affect your stay, better luck next time!

I apologize for hi-jacking this thread, but I have a quick question on the Foam Mattress pads referenced above.... Just curious we stayed in November and called mousekeeping asking for foam mattress pads and was told they don't have them, they only had mattress covers. We ended up going to buy one and left it behind as it was too heavy to pack or ship home..... We're heading back in just over a week and was dreading to spend money on another.... Does anyone know if SSR normally has these on hand????

They have a limited number of foam egg crate toppers, first come, first serve.

I see Sammie already answered, but we just called housekeeping on our 2nd night and they knew exactly what DH was talking about - I think he just called it the mattress pad / egg crate thing! They seemed to be only moderately helpful (the pads I mean, not housekeeping!), but better than nothing (there were 2 that laid over the width of the bed). DH slept there that night with my son, but he's actually too tall for that bed (6'3"). After that it was kids only, despite their howls of protest! I think an Aero bed will be in our future.

I recently had a segmented reservation (no DDP either). There were three segments to our reservation. When we checked in we were told we would have to come back 2X for new keys too. When we went in to get the new keys the first time the CM was able to program the system so that our keys worked for the remainder of the visit and we didn't need to replace them again.

I think it all depends on the CM you get at check-in--we had not been told by MS that this would be a possibility (to get new keys). We were under the impression that once they linked the segments together it would be one continuous reservation.

Apparently it can be--like I said--depending on what CM you get.

I'm guessing that the guest at laundry called the "front desk" which actually goes to a call center, and all the call center knows is laundry locations (they only seem to know the cash locations at Jambo, but SSR does not have a cash location) and they standard rates...
