My baby sister is getting married in April. She has been moving pretty slowly with the plans and just sent me a website with Bridesmaids dresses that she likes. (I know she is way too slow but what can I do?) The problem is that it takes too long to get them in. Do any of you guys have any ideas and/or experiences that could help us out. There are two bridesmaids, myself and my other sister and we will probably need alterations. Middle sis had a baby in December which complicates things. Colors are dark gray dresses with red accents. Thanks

Well, I wouldn't do online shopping for bridesmaids dresses then. I would recommend all of you going to a bridal shop (assuming you live near each other) and seeing how they can help you. Either you can purchase in stock dresses (might be an option if no one needs a funky size) or you can see if they can do a rush order. Although, if she is really dead set on the dressed being dark gray with red accents, I doubt any places would have that specific color combination in stock.

Is there a David's Bridal near you? They have a large inventory.

I wouldn't look for "bridesmaid dresses" and instead just find nice gowns at a department store.
How formal is the wedding?

If the dresses are ordered through a bridal shop, you can usually pay for rush shipping and they'd get there in plenty of time for alterations...but it isn't cheap.

David's! Mine for my brother's wedding at the end of March took 2 weeks to come in after I ordered it. And it fit without the need for alterations but it is knee length. My store only needed 3 weeks for alterations.

Plus it's age appropriate for me being in my mind 30s. That common ground between teenage and Mom of Bride can be near impossible. :lmao:

If she has her heart set on a certain style, take the picture to a local seamstress and have her make the dresses. It's usually a lot cheaper than buying a bridesmaid dress and you can get exactly the fabric and fit that you want.

I think to avoid having to pay for a rush, you need to shop online. They ship normally, and if there is a problem with the size, it's an easy exchange (trust me, after the wedding I was in last weekend, that matters!! 90$ in alterations on a potato sack of a dress :headache:)

J.Crew (the 'graphite' color)
Macy's
Neiman Marcus
Dillards
Ann Taylor
Nordstrom

Hope this helps!

I've been in two weddings in which we all went shopping together and bought dresses off the rack. They were not official "Bridesmaids" dresses, but they certainly looked the part when we wore them for the weddings! That may not work for your circumstances, but it worked for us!

Nordstrom and J Crew (can sometimes find great deals) have nice bridesmaids looking dresses. Also Macy's!

Davids is great as is Alfred Angelo if you have one. I was actually talking to the seamstress that's altering my bridesmaids dress for a wedding (she used to work for Davids) and she said that if you find clearance dresses, you can purchase off the rack and if they don't have your size they can check other stores and have it shipped to you! So that might be helpful if you're trying to get them in a hurry. Honestly davids has a nice selection and since there's only two of you, it could work!

Good luck!!!

Thank you so much. I appreciate all of the help. I may be back with more questions due to a super procrastinating bride. I would just let her fail on her own but everything falls back on my Mom so I am trying to help and keep the peace.
She says that she wants a wedding but we cannot get her to do or commit to anything. My other sister and Mom met with the bakery...without the bride. I think that they thought we were crazy!

Try Macy's or Nordstrom for quick shipping, reasonalbe price, free shipping.
One of the drawback of a place like Davids Bridal is that one you order it, sales are final. At one of the off-the-rack stores, the dress can be exchanged for different size/style if need be without the pressure of "Final Sale".

When I got my Mother of the Bride dresses from Nordstrom and Macys, I ordered a bunch and tried them on at home. Nordstrom had free return shipping for ones I did not want, Macy's unwanted dresses were returned at the store.

Good luck!
