I went to a bridal shower this past weekend (yes it was in a restaurant with about 50 women) and I was given a blank envelope by one of the hosts to write my own address on so the bride wouldn't have to spend time doing that when she writes out thank you cards. I did it but I thought it was a bit ridiculous that she couldn't spend a few extra minutes writing out the addresses herself. It may not be the bride's idea but her mom or MOH but I thought it was super tacky. I'm 29 and got married last year. I would never dream of asking guests to write their own envelopes. Am I just super old school or is this a new trend?

I've seen it before, but I'm not a fan. I would have been embarrassed if anyone had done that for me at one of my showers.

I've heard of this - maybe even here. I attended my future neices shower about seven months ago and didn't receive any kind of thank you card. Maybe she needed to have this done At hers - just kidding

Never saw this one before
I bet you get a preprinted thank you card-so she only has to sign her name-LOL!

Lol she did hand write a note but it was very generic!

I've done this somewhere once a long time ago. I can't remember in what context. I thought it was brilliant, actually.

Really. I always thought it added a more personal touch when the receiver of gifts does everything themselves.

Count me in as not a fan either. Maybe I'm getting old and crabby, but I take the time to go shopping, wrap the gift, come to the party and now I have to write my own envelope? I always think that next I'll be asked to write my own thank you.

I had this at a graduation party this year too.

I've seen it done a few times, never crossed my mind some would think its tacky. It was a simple way for the bride-to-be to have everyone's address. Goodness, people complain if they don't receive a thank you note now they complain about taking a minute to write their address on an envelope? Geez.

I don't think that's a nice thing to do. If the person organizing the shower wanted to save the bride some time, why didn't she address the thank you cars since she obviously had the addresses to send out the invite?

Sounds like a good idea to me.....saves her a little time.
Hope she does take time to add a note.....but at least you stand a better chance of receiving one that way

Like someone pointed out, if they were able to send invites then they already know everyone's address. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a TY card or for it be written out by bride or bridal party. If I spent the time to go out to buy a gift, buy appropriate gift wrap and card, drive to a party, and spend hours of my time there then I should get the same consideration back. Doesn't take much to write out an address.

My hubby and I joke that we are expecting to write our own envelope and maybe even the card when we attend the wedding. Lol.

I just gave my future DIL all the names and addresses for the Bridal Shower-which she will pass on to the Hostess.
she already has these names & addresses in the wedding Guest rouster
So the Bride should have all the addresses before the shower-right?

I've done it one time, and like wvjules they used it to raffle of prizes. I thought it was a nice idea.
And not all brides have everyone's addresses on hand. My showers (wedding and baby) were a complete surprise and I did not make up the guest lists for either, so I didn't already have everyone's addresses.

I would've understood if they did that and used it to raffle prizes but they didn't lol. I would think that would be a great way to ensure everyone gets their name in for a prize. I'm pretty sure that she has everyone's address because she had sent out the wedding invites a few days prior to the shower.

I've never seen it done, but I did hear about this practice on The Knot. Sadly, I've become so grateful that a person sends a prompt thank you note that I won't complain about a time saving technique like this.

Though I also agree, when I was a bride this is a time saving technique I would not have been thrilled about. And unless they consulted me, it's unlikely they would have picked up envelopes that match my stationary ;p

Yep, also have seen this and seen it used for raffle prizes as well. I agree it's tacky.
