Breaking up Reservation so I don't have to pay for an extra day of DDP.

I called today to make my DDP res and Member Services said that since we are staying 5 nights I have to get DDP for 5 days. That would be fine except we don't arrive @ MCO until after 9:00 PM on Thurs (6/14) and then we leave on a 9:15 AM flight on Tues (6/19) which means we will be checking about before 7 AM! I obviously don't need 5 days worth of meals. Traveling with DH, DS6 and DD3 so we are talking about $100 worth of meals that won't be eaten.

We are staying at SSR and are new DVC members. I asked Member Services if it would be possible to break up my reservation into a 1 night res and another for 4 nights. She told me "sure, but you would have to move your room". Are you serious???

Since we are leaving in 8 days I really need some help from my fellow DISers quick. Is it possible for me to change up my reservation at this point without having to move during my stay??

If DVC can separate you ressie into two separate ones then take it.
Call SSR 5 days befor you arrive and let them know that you have two separate ressies but would like to stay in the same villa if possible. Remind them again when you check in. Usually the guest services at the check in desk do try to accommodate you. You probably will need to formally check in and out of the room in a paperwork like manner.

If they separate them then link them, they will be treated as one stay and you'll be back where you started form. You can ask not to move but there are no guarantees. You will have to check back in again on the changeover day. Your best bet is likely to either not get it or to get it and plan one or more signature choices to use up the extra credits.

Now you have experienced one of the negatives of DDP and another way that Disney makes mucho money. I would guess that millions of dollars in credits are unused every year. The only thing you can do is eat more than the normal meals each day and use your extra TS credits for a very nice lunch. Have fun and don't let the system get you down. :hippie:

How do you "link" the reservations? Is this something I just request when I speak with member services?
Checking back in probably won't be a problem for us as long as we don't have to pack up and move - the trip is too short to waste time with that non-sense!

Linking means making sure each reservation has the others confirmation numbers on it and a request to stay in the same room. We have had a reservation linked before on an OKW stay. We were able to stay in the same room.

I'll be on the phone with Member Services first thing tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Just remember that if you link it, it'll act as one and you'll still have to get the DDP for all nights. What you want is not linked but with a REQUEST not to move units. You'll still have to check in again but likely won't have to move and get get the DDP for one day less. Good luck.

But you may have to move. You'll take that chance by not having all one reservation. Just stick with what you have and do Hoop de Doo.

Deb & Bill brought up a good point - that some of the restaurants and meals do take more than one meal credit. Having an extra day of meals may end up being a good thing!

I answered on the DDP forum too but wonder if the DDP is right for you this trip? I wouldn't want to risk having to move nor even the hassle of checking in again.

You have 10 meals to use over 4 days. 2.5 meals per day. I think it would be easy to use those if you really want the DDP. Book a signature meal or dinner show and the credits go even faster.

Good luck and happy planning!

I would bet that the ddp would still cost less money than paying cash even if you have some cs and snack credits left unused.

I would just get the DP for all 5 days & add an extra character meal to my ADRs.

**I think if you do split your reservation you may lose your trash & towel service day....since you'd be checking out on day 4.

I am in the same boat for my upcoming reservation. We arrive at about 10pm at MCO the first night and then leave at 8am on check out day... but since we have 8 nights - we have to get 8 days of the dining plan. I really want to try the dining plan this trip - so we are just going to have two nice 2TS meals - and even take our DD7 along. Her plan is still such a deal - so why not? Or - I may throw in a character breakfast just to give my hubby a hot breakfast and my daughter some character time... even though she is "getting too old for that..." as she explained to me!

Or - like others have said - maybe the DDP is not a good fit for this trip. I would not risk having to potentially switch rooms on a short vacation like that - especially with young kids. We switched on our last trip (2 nights at BWV and 4 nights at BCV) when DD was 6 and my step DD was 12 - and I felt it was a pain moving all of their stuff. We barely got there and we were moving and homeless again (couldn't get into BCV until 4pm exactly and we were at the park ALL day and were tired!)... ugh.

Just leave your reservation the way it is. I wouldn't take the chance of having to move or the hassle of checking out and checking back in just to save a few credits. There are plenty of ways to use them. Snacks can be purchased and used on the way home. Airlines don't feed you anything anymore, so get some snack mix or pretzels and take them home with you. Go to a dinner show or one of the signature character meals and use two credits. We have done that before and it was very nice. We felt like we saved money even when we had to use two credits for the nice meal. You can do one of the Fantasmic Dinner Packages and use two credits that way. There are plenty of ways to use them, so don't waste time changing rooms. (Just MHO)

Can't wait until September (first stay at BWV)

Why is it that I always have the opposite problem???

We used DDP last time & loved it for the convenience - but we do favor the signature restaurants. I can burn up a week's worth of credits pretty fast!

Wish they let you purchase a "level" of credits to take this into account. We would like 2 extras please!

Do what we do. Forget about the DDP and get the Disney Dining Experience card instead (since we are AP holders). We used the DDE card for our trip that we just returned from and made all the cost of the card, plus more back on our trip. Plus we only had to make the number of ADRs that we really wanted and got counter service or did a little shopping and home cooking when we wanted.

We did the DDP last Nov and thought it was too much eating. With the DDE this past week, it was much more enjoyable.
