Does this mean they are getting rid of thre pin trading altoghter at CR/
We love going here for pin trading on Friiday nights.
I finally made resservations to stay here fo r our September trip but if all this is going on I may switch.

Are the Food & Fun & the Concoarse going to be closed drung all this?
Whan is it starting?
Will the pin trading station be gone for good?

Any help would be appriciated.

I'm sending this from the bunker :sad2:

From Dizpins:
"As of August 2006, WDW will no longer host regularly scheduled Mickey's Pin Trading Nights at the Walt Disney World® Resort.
The final activities are scheduled for the following dates:

Thursday, July 27, 2006 - Disney's All-Star Sports Resort from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Friday, July 28, 2006 - Disney's Contemporary Resort from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 5, 2006 - Disney's Pop Century Resort from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

WDW thanks the many Guests who have continually attended and traded pins at these activities. All Guests are invited to continue trading with Cast Members throughout the Walt Disney World® Resort.

As Disney celebrates the Year of a Million Dreams this fall, look for new and exciting Disney Pin Trading opportunities at Disney Parks and Resorts."

The opening of the GF probably brought about the closing of Gulf Coast. GC closed 5/88, GF opened 6/88. Before the GF, the Empress Room on the Lilly and the Gulf Coast Room were the premiere restaurants at WDW, after 6/88, Victoria and Alberts took over that spot, and is the only eatery at WDW still requiring jackets. IIRC
Around the same time(1988-89), The Pueblo Room and Cocino Cove were closed and the area was swallowed up by what is now Chef Mickey's. :sad2:

That is probably true, but it seems like poor planning. If the rumored 6 Star resort ever does open at WDW, do you think they would close V&As because a new, fancier place was in town? Back in those days, Disney dining was panned by the critics. Even the official guide was extremely critical of the dining venues in and out of the parks. The Gulf Coast Room was one of the few exceptions. I just don't understand the thinking that went into shutting the place down.

Actually, I suspect that V&As would move to a new "6 Star" resort that WDW might build. While most of the hotel's amenities would remain intact, the things that make it the premier resort on-property would very likely to move. When our town built a new town hall, because we needed more room, the mayor's office and council chamber was moved to the newer, nicer building, while the old mayor's office was converted into the public works director's office, and the council chamber became the new records room.

We are HUGE CR fans. We have stayed there 3 out of 6 wdw trips.

Let me see if I have this. The food court and arcade are moving to the floor with Chef Mickeys replacing a store and the pic trading? The steakhouse is moving, we don't know where and we don't know what is going in its place. Right? :confused3

The Resort Is Getting an Extreme Makeover: THE Food and fun center is moveing to the lobby on the 3rd floor of the tower and the concourse Steak House is moveing to were the food and fun center is now. The pintrading stand is be taken away and Fantisa is moveing out to the lobby not a shop now outside the shop or make a large shop it stared this weekend this has been confromed by disney's cast members in the hotel
I don't know about this...I just got back from WDW and did not see anything that looked like a major redo was in the works for the areas mentioned. Admitadly(sp?) I was at the CR on Wednesday so maybe they really did just close things up with no notice this Saturday :confused3

I have ADR's at the Concourse in December. I don't believe this. It would be a big project, and take lots of time. They would not make ADR's if it was going to be closed.

I have heard this too. The arcade is moving up to the 4th floor and will be enclosed to dull the noise.

Another concern about this possible move (at least for me) would be the whole refillable mug thing. It was bad enough having to leave the pool to come inside and refill mugs at the Food and Fun center with it being on the first floor. Having to go up stairs/escallator/elevator in a bathing suit to refill a mug would be a royal pain. If they decide to do this, they really need to consider letting the snack bar by the pool refill mugs.

My family & I are arriving at the Contemporary on August 8th & just like melanie18 I will believe it when I see it. The changes do sound good but it sounds crazy to close the Food "N Fun Center, Concourse Steakhouse & the Fantasia stroe at the same time. So I think the OP may have got some wrong information there. I would like to know is it true about the pin station & if someone can confirm this, are they now selling pins inside the Bay View Gifts store the way they sell pins at other WDW Resorts, (which are inside the store).

Just to clarify... we don't know *anything*. There have been rumors of such a switch for a while now. There have been no official announcements.

In general, it is very rare for rumors that aren't offical to come true. CM's tend to be the worst sources for such rumors.

It seems the pin trading nights are ending in August, that is on the official disney pin site. :guilty: It would make sense to get rid of the pin kiosk in the lobby now. I hope not this is our favorite pin kiosk. :sad1:

I hope they aren't closing 2 eateries at the same time, we are staying at the CR for the first time in Sept and after the pin trading ending I couldn't take it if the restaurants were closed when we were there. I would seriously consider changing resorts.

Hopefully we will get some "official" news soon.
I just made my final payment and don't know if I could switch.

It wouldn't suprise me that these moves are going to be made to improve the current setup and infrastructure at the Contemporary. It needs to be done; however, I doubt all of it will be done by December. My guess is that it will be done in phases; one section at a time, kind of like what they did at the Poly GCH. That particular move started over a year ago and is still going on now.

I remember on our trip walking to the CR from MK and taking the escalators to the 3rd floor and wondering what the heck the 2nd floor was all about--I figured conventions but it seemed like a lot of useless space.
We love the shopping at the Contemporary. BVG is awesome. I just hope they leave that one alone and don't add the frou-frou "make your own tiara" and baby-type stuff to it--leave that in the other store, wherever they put it.
We also ate at Concourse this last time and had a wonderful meal. I hope wherever they move it, if they do, it has a good view and ambience so they don't end up closing it down. I think it's really overlooked already.

Anything would be better than how it is now, they should bulldoze the Outer Rim Bar while their at it.

I am going to say again that I believe that these renovations will happen. I just think they will do one thing at a time & not all this week like the OP 1st stated, because that would make the most sense. Also I am going to ask again if the pin station has been taken away, are they now selling the pins inside the Bay View Gifts store?

I hope the pin station doesn't leave. It is also one of my favorites and one of the only ones of it's size besides Downtown.

I just called the Cont. and asked about the construction that would be going on. The girl I talked to said that she "I work here and I haven't heard anything about construction to the Concourse. I don't know how some people get their information." Oops! I kinda got the impression that some others had been calling too. I hope that it isn't going to be totally torn up while we are there in Sept. I am already bummed about the castle. I also have a res. at Concourse and I kinda doubt that they would have taken ADR's if they were going to be closing it for renovation.

I like the Concourse Steakhouse right where it is, it's fun to watch the monorails whizzing by :yay: . We really enjoy going there. BTW, I like the Outer Rim lounge also :smooth: !

I have an ADR for Concourse Steakhouse in August and I called Disney Dining just to make sure there weren't any changes going on. The CM I spoke with told me that they were still making ADR's for the restaurant and had no clue what I was talking about when I mentioned moving it. :confused3
