:wizard: I had read somewhere that you can have breakfast at Trattoria that is not be part of the Bon Voyage Package. Does anyone know if that's true? Can you just order off an al la carte menu and skip the characters? If so, is there a menu anywhere to view?

I have seen references to this as well, something about having it in the back room. I am interested in knowing more as well.

When I was there last year, at check-in there were asking if you were there for the characters and if not you were taken back outside in into a different room. Not sure if there is a way to pre-book that option or if it's only for people who walk-up.

Yes there is an option. I did it ~6 months ago. I believe it is for walk ups only but I actually was able to convert my reservation at the podium as I wasn't really interested in the characters. They take you outside onto the Boardwalk, past the outdoor patio, and have you enter through some double doors a bit further down the Boardwalk closer to ESPN. I think the menu was pretty much the same but with a la carte prices. I had the egg scramble with tomato and feta that's on the character meal menu. It's not a big room but at the time I was there is was barely full. I'd definitely do it again.

We did the al a carte breakfast two weeks ago. Same food choices as on the character meal menu with most entrees priced at $13 or $14. Add beverage cost to this. It was raining lightly when we arrived, so they walked us through the restaurant to the back room (that’s the Taverna Room; I think it seats 28 at seven 4-top tables, so not a large room) rather than taking us outside. We were staying at BWV at the time, so on other days when it was not raining, they were also seating al a carte breakfasters (is that even a word?) outdoors as well as in the Taverna room.

In January, during another stay at the BWV, we did the character breakfast. We had an ADR for this meal. When we arrived, we were asked at the podium if we wanted the Taverna Room or the character experience, since we were a party of two senior-age adults. It sounded like we could have opted for the al a carte breakfast at about half the cost, but we actually enjoy character dining once per trip or so.
