I know there's a few here and there topics about bread recipes, but I'm having a hard time finding easy peasy recipes to try out my new machine.

So post your favorite recipe.

BTW, are there any recipes that don't use sugar?? I picked up bread flour, baking soda, baking powder, and yeast... forgot the sugar. Who knows when I'll get back to the store to pick some up. Are there any other useful ingredients to have on hand for making bread?? I've heard about King Arthur website, and great prices for some things, so I think I'll order some things from them in the future, but I don't have the patience to wait to play with my new toy.

I use orange juice (the lots of pulp kind is the best) instead of the liquid and the sugar. It is so yummy when it is warm. People at work beg me to bring in a loaf when we have morning meetings.

I haven't bought OJ in a while. I'm very picky about using fresh not from concetrated OJ. Which is what they mainly produce in Florida, so it's kinda expensive out here in California. Although in florida, all the produce is expensive cause it's grown out here in California.

I do have a bag full of fresh oranges, but no juicer. Any ideas on how to juice them??
And what's your recipe for a quick white bread??

This is my favorite recipe! I just got a bread machine 2 weeks ago from the thrift store (had manual, an extra book, and was only $5) and have been playing.

White Bread

Ingredients
1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cups bread flour
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Directions:
1.Place water, sugar, salt, oil, bread flour and yeast into pan of bread machine.
2.Bake on White Bread setting . Cool on wire racks before slicing.

Right now I am making this recipe :

Cinnamon Bread

Original Recipe Yield 1 1/2 pound loaf
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 tablespoons margarine, softened
3 1/4 cups bread flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
3/4 cup raisins

Directions:
1.Place ingredients in order suggested by your manufacturer. Select the sweet bread and light crust settings. Add raisins when indicated by your manufacturer.
(edit) - ** When I made it with no raisins, it worked great. However, I attempted to make it with raisins, and it ran over the machine while rising. I am trying again this morning, only using 2 1/2 tsp yeast. Unless I updated to say that doesn't work, I would use only 2 1/2 tsp yeast. **

These both came from allrecipes.com

I'm looking at King Arthur's recipes. So many to choose from. There's quite a few things that are common in baking bread, but there's just non of that stuff in the pantry. I can't just go out about buy 50$ worth of groceries to bake a hundred loaves. So I want to try some of the few simple ingredient list breads first.

Just got some sugar tonight, so we'll see how it turns out.

I used to have a cookbook called "The Best Low-Fat, No-Sugar Bread Machine Cookbook." Title says it all! I know you said you just got sugar, but just thought I'd throw it out there for the future.

I love, love my bread machine. I haven't played with it as much as I used to, pre-kids, but it's a staple for our Friday night pizza. I've done cinnamon rolls at Christmas, hand-shaped rolls, calzones, bagels, pretzels, and of course...all flavors and varieties of breads.

I got my first loaf in the machine now. It's rising, but it still smells good to me.

It's a simple white bread machine recipe found on KA's website.
breadmaker bread
For large (1 1/2lb.- 2lb.) machine
1 cup lukewarm water
1/3 cup lukewarm milk
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 3/4 cups King Arthur Unbleached All Purpose Flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Since I didn't have enough all purpose flour, I used 2cups bread flour and 1 3/4 cups AP flour.

It's also nice to read all the reviews for the breads, because some people will tell you how they altered the recipe and made it turn out good too.

Well you answered my question for a thread I would start, Did you take your chances when you bought it, or did you plug it in at the store to see if it got hot? What brand is it if you dont mind me asking? Jo

Any time I've bought something from a thrift store, I usually take my chances. At 5 bucks, it's not much to loose.

When I got mine from the flea market, there's outlets set up, so they were able to plug it in and turn it on. Still sorta took my chances, because turning it on doesn't always guarantee that'll work.

Condition of an item has a lot to do with it too.

I've used honey instead of sugar.

I know there's a book out there with "low fat no sugar" recipes for bread machines because I've seen it in a friend's kitchen.

Here's some picks of my bread from the machine. My first ever loaf.

It does make the house smell really good. It's a little heavier than I'd like, but I need more stuff to make some of the lighter breads. Off to try bagel bread now.
