Brazilian tour groups??

Still, even when it's Disney it's YOUR country. If something goes against the local way of doing things. and of course, good manners... then it has to be punished :teacher:

I can understand that the BTG may not understand that a large group of people chanting and singing may be annoying. But the other behaviors that are routinely reported by this group: pushing, line cutting, not letting people by, etc., are rude in ANY country.

I thought it was horrible....

We encountered them numerous times on our trip. June 19-27th. They were everywhere!!!

There were multiple isssues with trying to cut in line, being loud and rowdy, etc.

However, my MAIN problem was that they were constantly PUSHING my 4yr old daughter in order to get in front of her, worse was in the que for haunted mansion (the room after stretching) where the walls slowly close in and force everyone to mob together, a group of girls with blue shirts were trying to SHOVE their way to the front, my daughter was getting mobbed.... it made me so upset and she was crying....

It is a shame Disney doesnt do better at the stampeade that occurs after preshow rooms....

And I have to say Brazil is an awesome place to go on vacation, it's full of pure paradisiac places, beaches and incredible people. Don't judge all brazilians because of what you see in teens at WDW.

But we are told over and over and over that we're supposed to accept that behavior and deal with it because the way the teens are behaving -- the line cutting, lying down to sleep anywhere, the pushing, the singing/chanting etc -- is the NORM for public behavior in their countries. Assuming that such assertions are the truth and given I don't like that sort of behavior, why should I use up limited time and money to experience it when there are so many other vacation options?

For example, there are two water parks near us. We frequent one and not the other because one park has staff who absolutely do not tolerate pushy aggressive behavior, PDAs, public drunkenness and the other park does nothing about those behaviors. Of course, that means over time the one park attracts more and more people who behave badly and the other park attracts people who can act better, so the difference becomes more acute over time. We have a choice about how to spend our entertainment dollars and naturally we're going to spend it on a venue with an environment we enjoy.

We were there in early June and there were at least two different groups that I saw over the week. Never had an issue with them. Waiting for Fantasmic was fun to watch them chant against each other....but I have a different angle on the tour group story.

We stay offsite and we always go to Wal Mart to get some food. One of the groups was their as it must have been their arrival day. This group had to be staying offsite with the food they were buying. Loading up buggies. It was funny to watch. Then as we were leaving they were in line at Subway and had filled up every seat. Kind of different, and first time we have ever seen this.

We were there June 22-29th. We must of been very lucky because we didn't see any of that. We did see the groups, but they didn't behave that way. The ones we saw were very well behaved. They were all over Sunshine Seasons one afternoon and needed more seats. I was sitting with some family members, waiting for the rest who were still getting food. Several of the kids tried to take seats from our tables, but they all asked politely and didn't argue or anything when I told them we needed the chairs. I only saw one group chanting. They were mostly girls and it looked like they were jogging/running in formation to get someplace. They weren't loud, more like calling cadence to keep everyone together, and they didn't run anyone over that I saw. The only other time they were somewhat of an issue was at the Poly pool. There was a large group at the pool one night and they kind of took it over. They weren't deliberately chasing anyone away or doing anything dangerous, it was just that they were such a large group and they did get kind of loud, which I thought was typical teen behavior. We did try to avoid the groups in the parks, but only because they were such large groups to stand in line behind.

We just got back from POFQ. We were there from June 29 - July 4th. There was a large tour group staying at our hotel and several throughout the parks. No problems at all. They were enjoying themselves, just as we were.

My kids and I are staying at ASMo July 28 - Aug.3. Now I am nervous there will be tons of tour groups making lots of noises. :scared1:

Does anyone know if they usually stay in standard or preferred?

We were there June 19th-25th and I guess we must have done a good job of picking the park the *weren't* at each day. We saw the same 3 or 4 groups a few times throughout the week but had no real issues with them. They were doing quite a bit of chanting in some of the ride queues that was a little annoying, but no rude behaviors in any of the lines -- and we were right in front of a group while in line for BTMRR.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences that week. I would have been annoyed, too.

We don't tip in my country, does that mean I can go to the USA and not tip? I think you go to another country you try to adhere to their social norms.

They are always there. The most groups I have seen at one stay was in October.

We've gone twice in Sept. and several times in Oct. - always for 10 day trips and have NEVER seen any groups whether brazillian, cheerleaders, bands, etc. The only larger groups of people we've encountered are the British who vacation in the fall but they don't vacation in "groups" and we only had one negative experience with them compared to many, many positive ones.

yeah, well... it is NOT the norm.
I'm not really trying to defend the BTG. Being Brazilian, I've had myself problems with them in the past. I've gotten into arguments with tour guides and all.
Whoever said the group's leader is determinant of the group's behavior is right, I guess. I think they just don't want to displease their clients and impose some respect and discipline. It's easier to pretend they don't see it happening or blame Americans for being too uptight or whatever and stay on the teens good side. It is DEFINETELY not the best conduct, but i think is goes on the same line as bad parenting, you know, taking the easier route and end up rasing some brats and needing to summon Supernanny! LOL

In Brazil, normal people don't lie down on the floor on public, don't usually chant or dance unless the situation calls for it (sports game, party, etc). But, on the other hand, teenagers are what they are. They think they're so cool for being SO grown up and OH-MY!-SO controversial, so I guess that's behavior you just end up running into everywhere in the world. Cultural variations may apply, but a large and unatended group of teenagers is generally going to be inconvenient somehow.

Line cutting and pushing is not acceptable in Brazil, just the same as every other country. It is not acceptable, but it happens; just like in every other country.

So you put together a negligent tour guide/group leader and the large group of teenagers who are excited to be at WDW, and you will get a mess.

Oh! I don't remember anymore who said something about the group at Wal Mart. Here's the thing. In Brazil prices are much higher because we have a lot of import taxes. Everything is like double the price we find in the US. So the group was probably buying some Kit Kats, make up, Haagen Dazs ice cream, a few appliances, video games... simpel stuff like that, but that happen to cost a lot where they come from.
If you happen to hit a Premium Outlet, Florida Mall or a Best Buy on those same periods you see the tour groups... Well, you will re-evaluate what you thought was bad and weird behavior! Brazilian groups shopping, it's like Black Friday every day! Because the prices for those same things/brands are so high in Brazil, it's not uncommom to see a Brazilian family of four buying 12 pairs of Nike tennis shoes, maybe half a dozen Guess hand bags, a couple dozen of Victoria Secret Garden products...
I, personally, don't buy that much. But I've had my days at the Nike outlets!

I work as a Labor and Delivery nurse in a hospital that services a huge Brazilian population. As a group, I find them to be warm, polite, fun, hard working, respectful people. They are always grateful for the smallest gesture.

The behaviors I see people complaining about would be seen if you got a large group of American teenagers together also. (Well, not the lying down anywhere!) Teens can just be annoying, no matter where they are from!! :lmao:

We are headed to the world next week. My only concern is ending up behind the person with 100 tickets at the Fastpass machine :scared1:

It's sad that teens will almost always find a reason to misbehave if they're away from their parents. Yes we're always trying to be permissive with these kids but hey, up to a limit! Really, if you don't like a certain behavior speak up to whoever is responsible! It doesn't matter if anyone thinks you're uptight.

I still want to keep looking at the bright side of this, it's pleasing to read that things seem to be improving at WDW. Let's hope a true change is starting to be seen from now on.

I have to say though, that I'm with the DISer who doesn't want to be behind the person who's after the 100 fastpasses :rotfl: ... seriously!

:)

In my experience, it wasn't always the chanting teens that were the rudest (but that is certainly high on my annoyance list!!) but the parents of those teens, especially at the water parks. I've never seen so many rude adults dressed so scantily pushing in front of teen girls. Really, my girls do NOT want to see your Speedo wedging up in front of them in line and don't rub your hairy back on them--it grosses them out!

Horrible Horrible behaviours:headache:We went mid July last summer and will NEVER do it again! I have to say the resort (ASMo) did a good job of controllling them at the resort: at our check in we were told about the groups, who to contact if there was a problem, and to keep an eye on our DD :sad2: The first night we called with loud singing, doors slamming, etc. at 2am and said we would not put up with this again and would be asking for either resolution or reimbursement to move somewhere else. then during the morning (we like to eat breakfast, swim, sun, etc at the pool), those who obviously didn't sleep all night parked themselves all over taking up chairs, tables, etc. to sleep, trash, and be obnoxious. We again called and said come take care of this. The resort responded with security and from then on the groups entered and exited resort grounds through a back parking lot by the Love Bug area and they were not allowed by the pool unless they were swimming. In the parks we knew to go the opposite way whenever we saw a flag (based on incidents years ago when our DD and DS were little), but as we were enjoying the barbershop quartet on main street in MK a group actually SHUT THEM DOWN with shouting, hooting, obscene gestures, etc. :sad2: Our crowd that had gathered stepped up to get them moving on but I have never witnessed such unbelievable behaviors in all my life. We wonder why they even bother to come to WDW, as it's pretty obvious they only want to cause drama and conflict--they don't come to enjoy the experience.
I TOTALLY disagree with the poster who says all groups of teens would act the same way. Not so. I have been a part of large teen group trips for years when DS and DD were in school and there was NEVER a tolerance of disgusting behaviours. To paint all teens with the same brush is unrealistic and unfair. The Brazilian teens in the ASMo last July were Vile and downright Scary:scared1:. My facts are from personal experience and I have no need to generalize.

My school sends 500 Seniors to Disney every May.

Without fail, we get a letter or two each year complimenting their behavior. (Most often it's from a flight crew, since they can pin down who we are.) Inevitably they brace themselves for a rough flight when they realize it's full of teens and are pleasantly surprised to find out how well behaved our kids are.

I teach teenagers, and have to say that the ones I've taught, almost without exception, have made me very proud.

In fact, I was teaching an SAT prep class this morning and had an incident-- a 16 year old boy was suddenly on the verge of passing out. He was semi-concious for a good 10 minutes. The other 11 kids in the class were phenomenal-- using his cell to get me through to his mom, pushing tables out of the way so he could lie down on the floor, passing me their water bottles so I could keep him conscious, volunteering to go out and show mom where we were, and helping support him as he went out to the car.

Not all teenagers are obnoxious. Most of the kids I've met over the past 30 years have been wonderful.

Well, when I was a teen in those groups I DIDN'T act that way either so generalizing is always wrong as I guess there are many kids who do behave despite the behaviour of the rest of the group.
Still all you mention is what I fear about the tour groups AND Pop Warner Week. I'm wondering ...did Disney send some pixie dust your way to make you feel better about your stay? Did you file a complaint? I just want to know what to expect from Disney if I do need to file a complaint :)
